I remember when I was little, my father used to make the furniture by himself. A pile of timber would be transformed into the table, chairs, cabinet, and cloth covered sofa. It totally amazed me.

Childhood memories are full of the fresh smell of timbers from shaving the wood, and the sound of sawing…

As I grew up to become a designer, I’ve maintained the my appreciation for the natural feeling of wood. I like wood furniture for it's warm touch and the natural smell.

As I grew up to become a designer, I’ve maintained the my appreciation for the natural feeling of wood. I like wood furniture for it's warm touch and the natural smell.

Wood is from the forest and human being is mothered by the nature. The closeness that people enjoy with wood may derive from the nature.

As a designer, both in study and work, one inevitably encounters the long history of the Chinese craftsmanship in both architecture and furniture. The tenon-and-mortise joint structure as the essence of traditional Chinese furniture and architecture has always attracted my curiosity. I collected some literature on architecture and furniture and many e-books on the tenon-and-mortise joint structure online. The delicacy and beauty of tenon-and-mortise joints are truly appealing and stunning.

But a question remains. The tenon-and-mortise joint in books are two dimensional drawings. One has to use one’s imaginations to reconstruct these into a three dimensional structure. The simple ones are easier to understand. But the more complex ones are really taxing on the brain and in the end I could not get to the bottom of it.

This inspired me: Could I use computer technology and 3D models to gain a clear perspective of the classical tenon-and-mortise joint structures?

Sometimes I think, maybe one day I can become a carpenter, a craftsman.

Through 6 months of preparation and hard work, my team has accomplished this little dream.

We can provide:

a high quality 3D model to view the 27 classical tenon-and-mortise joint structures broken down into their composite parts;

exquisite designs to present the timber materials suitable for the tenon-and-mortise joint structure;

well-versed interactive explanations of commonly used traditional carpentry tools;

visual and interesting instruction about the history and evolution of the tenon-and-mortise joint structure;

the ability to share on the social networks;

So this is the tenon-and-mortise joint structure dedicated to all those who have a passion for nature, wood, and design. Together let’s enjoy the beauty of tenon-and-mortise joint structure!

Thank you to all those who offered us a helping hand!

Shawn Tung

Amazing app for designers and everyone. Thank you, developer, for such an amazing and adorable work. For Chinese, the app can recall something fluid in their blood.

Nice but not Android Design Back button doesn't work, seems to be an iOS app.If adapted to Android,will be better.

Alisha Kumar

Y.L Duan

Neethu Antony

Very gooooddd

Complete waste Don't install if u r already not a carpenter. Well joining wood using different shapes is good but who is going to show how to bloody make it. Slightest of mistake & hours of work in vain. Seriously pathetic

Fahim huq

High on beauty, leaves desiring on info As others said, the app is poetic in its approach. It has such a well designed interface that it's a shame that it doesn't have more info beyond the basics -- Rarely you come across an a app that would so deserve the money if it had a paid, enhanced version. Congrats to the devs.

David Hillman

Beautiful and completely useless The epitome of form over function. Genuinely attractive to look at... good thing, too, because looking at it is all you can do. No useful information of any sort, apparently by design. For kicks, it also has useless annoying animation. Download only if you can't figure out how to google up pictures of wood.

Rolf Egstad

Thorough and Artful This is probably the most well developed app I have ever fun across. It's complete in its coverage of the topic. There is intuitive flexibility to expand and explore. Finally, it's so generally pretty and smooth, its almost meditation.

Randy West

This a very fun a for anyone to learn more about wood This a very good a great app for any woodworker beginners to masters keep up the fine work

Jim James

Stunningly beautiful The developers of this app should receive an award. It's one of the most professional and well-constructed apps I've ever seen, with graphics that are absolutely breathtaking. The ability to learn the various joints from just this method is unbelievable. This will always be a primary tool in my arsenal of woodworking knowledge. I can't speak highly enough of it. Well done, developers, very well done.

Denny Chan

Beautifully compiled! Great app Right balance of interaction, simplicity and information. Faith in reviving Chinese culture! Congrats and Well done team!

Kirk Bell

Excellent An easy way to learn about various woodworking joints, tools and more.

Ric Calvi

I had high hopes for this app, but it WILL NOT RUN on my Samsung S3 (w/KitKat). :-(

Rodney Standy

Got it If you have passion in wood, this will be your heavenly app.

Bashir Ahmed

All tenon are the best but how they are built and what tools are required is issue. There are no learning lessons

Rob W.

Unintuitive Great idea for visual information transfer, but the layouts are too simple and without depth or details. Too, broad subject to be flipping images, needs a lot more practical thought to actually be used as a learning tool, good luck!

Matthew Lindsay

Excellent almost poetic app. Needs to have more detail on separate piece cuts and tools used for each.

Mickey Jett

VERY PLEASANT I'm new in the woodworking field, and this app made me even more ready to get off work.

Dennis williams

Freaking Awesome ! Very smooth, very informative and elegant.

Matt Wynns

jamie jempson

Lovely app....please update with more ...joints ,timber, everything...again. .beautiful app...well done

Victor Hubbard

Super Cool!! Beautiful design. Love the 3D rendering of the various joints. Would like a search function, but this Is elegant and a lot of fun.

Jon Long

Wow Sum of the best......anyone who rates this with less than 3 stars does not know wood.

Farrukh Kamolidinov

Beautiful app! I have never seen such amazing app...

Shiva Murthy

Shiva Awesome app thanks for that

Peter Zang

Beautiful wood.

David Dawson

Beautiful, and instructive This is not a woodshop "how-to" app, but nevertheless contains enough detail to allow the user to understand the nuances and artistry of the joints being described. It will frustrate those looking for step-by-step instructions, but with some creative effort, the user can reproduce these joints.

Tony Godshall

Pretty but vague and confusing Might make more sense in the original language

Worthless. Great graphics and all that. However, no useful information. Even the wood identification only contains about 5 species of wood and the pictures are extremely limited. Fun to look at and completely useless. Thank for wasting my time.

Liam Relihan

A little bit of art A real labour of love. Worth checking out if you love woodworking

Knight Templar R8E7V

Very beautiful Not a how to which would of been nice but made for a fascinating read about wood, tools and history finished with beautiful 3d designs of the joints you can have a close look at. Overall I like it.

charuhas korde

Wood lovers! Well designed interface, simple and sensible.
