Usage Timelines is a CPU and process monitor with a graphical cpu load history in the notification bar and a list of running apps.

For questions, remarks, suggestions or feedback mail us at [email protected]

For an add-free version see "Usage Timelines Pro" (

---- Features ------------

✓ Extended cpu load history as notification in the notification bar (like xload/windows task manager)
✓ Process listing
✓ Cpu and memory usage of processes (similar to "top" or windows task manager)
✓ Processes can be terminated and uninstalled
✓ Works without rooting
✓ Very low power usage
✓ Supports English and German

---- Free vs. Pro Version ------------

The pro version supports all features of the free version plus
✓ a widget to quickly start/stop the cpu load history notification
✓ settings to change the notification colors
✓ no ads and thus smaller resource consumption

---- Power Consumption ------------

Some remarks about power consumption and performance

✓ tl;dr
Set your update intervals as high as acceptable for you. Power consumption should be fine then.
Shorter update intervals lead to higher power consumption since the values are updated more often.
You may also use it just when you experience problems and turn off the notification otherwise.

✓ Usage Timelines has been highly optimized
✓ If everything is fine, Usage Timelines should be the app in the app list that uses most cpu since all other apps should be paused by android. That's normal and expected behavior.
✓ Displaying the process list needs some additional power, especially if you are working with the app (e.g. scrolling). If the process list is not shown (e.g. while you are using another app), the process list does not use any cpu power.
✓ If the screen is off, only the values for the notification history are acquired to be able to properly update the usage history as soon as the screen is switched on again. Neither the notification history nor the process list are updated if the screen is off since you could not see the update anyway, saving cpu power and lowering power consumption.
✓ The ad library uses some cpu power. You can get rid of this by using the pro version.

Thanks for the Lollipop update. But can you please change the system red back to system blue. The red makes the notification look off. Or atleast add an option to switch to back to the old color. Thanks.

Native Linux Processes Native Linux Processes It does not show me Native Linux Processes(like a app named "OS Monitor") please add this feature to the next version 'cause people that use custom ROM want to know which Native Linux Process use CPU most of time If add it to next version I give 5 star

Steve Heyns

Room for improvement So with a total load of 76% and only two processes reporting 4% you have to wonder where the other 68% of the cpu is going to. Well wonder no more, it is being pumped into this app to display ads and stuff. That is a pretty heft load considering what the app does... I do like the history, although a more detailed history would be useful - ie 5 mins ago what was causing my cpu to spike to 100%...

Tom Davidson

Great for spotting unusual behaviour Just like xload on Unix. Can see step changes when an app is consuming a lot of cpu and then drill down to find it & kill or uninstall. Look no further when your device is running slowly. Just realised that there is a Pro version - time to support the developer for this great app!

Jon Wichman

Incredibly helpful, but can't stop it, and takes up a a lot of CPU time itself. Good feedback on what's eating up your CPU, but compared to other monitors for Windows & Linux, eats up 2x as much CPU time and can't unload it once it's started. Also couldn't find it on the listed website, just a church organ app.

Cpu spike detection A excellent application. I use it all the time.

adam parkes

Very good. Exactly what I was after.

Mark Cocklin

Very good. Useful app for keeping an eye on your processor.

Works great but needs a good help screen. I didn't have any issues with how well it works but frankly don't understand what a lot of the info means. A help screen would be beneficial. But I mainly got it to show me CPU usage which it does really well.

Dejan Renčelj

Lacks functionality The history with some stats would be something I'd expect to see in this app. I can see the real time info in other already installed apps.

Scott Turner

Galaxy s4 App was great on my droid RAZR but after getting the S4, added a bunch of slowness. Not recommended for the S4.

Onedevteam com

Need cpu history Nice app but it need hitory, what used cpu and how much cpu time it used over time... 3 stars for lack of that options.

Aleksandar Bozic

Great app I uninstalled all other process monitors after i tried this one.

Like taskbar icon Eats up a lot of battery ... always top cpu user.

Edwin Zuidema

Solid app Does exactly as described. Very handy is the history and top-like process overview

Kip Herbert-Taylor

Great! Does the job, no BS! Simple, lightweight app that does exactly what you want. Shows the usage timeliness of CPU usage and RAM usage, and displays the resources used for each app. Just what you're looking for

Alcatel Onetouch OT918a It works ok doh it could use some more features but its a great app.

Kulwant Bhogal

Just what I was looking for I was getting fed up with my battery dying after updating my SGS2 to Jellybean. After much hunting, found this app. Straightaway I saw a pedometer app & Facebook sitting in the background sucking cpu. Uninstalled the pedometer app and already battery life's improved. Now to report FB & see if can get it fixed

Rey Del Rosario

Negative CPU Percentage? I sometimes get negative values on total and individual CPU percentages. And sometimes 1200% total cpu utilization. Using Motorola Moto G

Thomas Ueland Torp

Good app. Lacks a history function. Does what it's supposed to do without using undue resources. However, I could not find that it saved history of activity of the apps. As I can see from the timelines that some program acted up from time to time, while the phone was in my pocket, this function would gave been very nice to have.

great app! Excellent realtime stats and GUI, not overly complex, easy to read

Marten van Wezel

Quitting the app itself impossible Come on, an app for people that want to micro manage their phone performance that has no clear way to quit? No.

A Google User

Used to work very well... now annoying Google adds EDIT: with last update, extremely annoying google play adds. It now uses lots of CPU. From 5 stars went to 1 star and was uninstalled.

Nays Private

Amazing This app gives you a history of cpu usage in your notification bar, in a very nicely designed widget. A+

Tomer D

Not helpful App indicate that the cpu usage is 99% yet it Doesn't show what app is using it. Even when "show sys apps" is on.

Mark Spencer

Wonderful app. Made my battery last 200% longer. It shows you immediatelly that some app puts load on your cpu. I really like the timeline chart which you can see when you open the roll-down android menu. I bought pro to support the author. Really well-worth it. Keep up the excellent work!

Sengor Kusturica

Kernel threads Wish it displayed all items from 'top' including kernel threads.

Mardhika Fardhianto

Best android task manager This app allows you to view, kill, uninstall per running apps just one click on notification bar. Even it gives you cpu usage per apps. No other apps are like this. Planning on buy the pro version.

Mark Good

It's OK History notification didn't stay running when I needed it to. Not much help.

Pash G.

Could be better Would be nice if the app had a CPU-usage history graph for each app, instead of just one cumulative graph for total CPU load. This would really make it useful in determining which apps are the biggest battery drainers

Dř. Skendy

Fantastic app Great app with easy ui, thx for this ;)

jason walker

Very Very good like it

I just upgraded to pro Just for the color changing option. Keep up the great work.

Prevents lock screen from sleeping Great app...except it prevents my lock screen on my Galaxy S5 on lollipop from sleeping after I receive a notification. This only happens when the option to Show Load Time Line is set to "on". If I get a message while I'm not near my phone, the screen stays lit & it kills my battery. This alone is enough to make me look for another CPU monitoring app.... :(

jo ma

The best look people, it only eats extra CPU when it's fully opened and it's showing you CPU on every thing....

G Garratt

White notification bar Have a white notification bar as opposed to black??? Zenfone 2 cm13

Super G

Resources hungry app! While this app is kinda useful n informative, it constantly uses 128M Ram n 11% CPU resources, which always top5 on the chart. Too wasteful IMO. Note 3 LTE

Calvin Lai

Works well Easy to use and see which apps are sucking up my CPU usage

Steve Bullman

Todd for identifying what apps eats your CPU Most excellent. Complements Micro CPU Monitor very well to notify of high usage and what causes it.

A Google User

Works great but needs a good help screen. I didn't have any issues with how well it works but frankly don't understand what a lot of the info means. A help screen would be beneficial. But I mainly got it to show me CPU usage which it does really well.
