Nostalgia overload! Fighting Fantasy returns with Ian Livingstone's classic, The Forest of Doom.

Take part in one of the classic gamebook experiences that introduced a whole generation to fantasy role-playing games! Computer gaming was in its infancy and it was the early days of tabletop RPGs when The Forest of Doom exploded into bookshops in the early 80s, proudly displaying Iain McCaig's iconic cover.

You can relive the adventures in Darkwood Forest on your Android phone or tablet, lovingly updated for digital devices. Presented in full colour with realistic physics-based dice rolling for battles, auto-mapping, an auto-updated adventure sheet and stat keeping.

“It’s the kind of experience that reminds one what fun interactive fiction can be, as well as making the promise of new Fighting Fantasy titles from Tin Man Games soon, all the more exciting.” - 148 APPS - 4.5/5 - EDITOR'S CHOICE!

“Given that Tin Man Games’s previous two efforts were quite similar in tone, the change of scenery in The Forest of Doom is very welcome indeed. It’s also encouraging to see the developer adding content to its already-robust Gamebook engine – you now have an auto-map, which records your progress and makes your choices that little bit easier.” - POCKET GAMER - 9/10 - GOLD AWARD!

“This is a beautiful, wonderful adaptation of the classic book. It has every bell and whistle you could ask for in terms of making the experience of playing Forest of Doom as enjoyable as possible. If you’re here looking for the book on your device, look no further. This is what you want. If you’re a fan of game books but don’t know this one at all, I give it a hearty recommendation. This is one of the classics of the genre and it has been given the usual royal treatment from the developer.” - TOUCH ARCADE - 4/5

• Make the gamebook as easy or hard as you like and even turn on a special cheat mode to read it old-school!
• Atmospheric new visuals which can be turned off to make the gamebook look like it came off the printing press in the 80s!
• NEW Auto-mapping! Never get lost in Darkwood Forest.
• Iain McCaig's famous cover animated and brought to life.
• Malcolm Barter's classic illustrations colorised for the app, making full use of the high-resolution retina displays.
• Fantastic new cover artwork to unlock!
• Achievements to find throughout the gamebook.

The Forest of Doom has been brought to Android using Tin Man Games’ critically acclaimed Gamebook Adventures Engine featuring:

• Read the book horizontally or vertically on your tablet.
• An automated Adventure Sheet to keep track of stats and inventory.
• Realistic physics based dice rolling. Shake your device!
• Artwork gallery. Find an illustration in the gamebook and be able to access it full-screen forever.
• Bookmarking system which saves your position in the gamebook, much like putting your fingers between the pages to remember your previous page when reading the paperback!
• Specially composed soundtrack and sound effects.

Writer, Ian Livingstone, was one of the co-founders of Games Workshop and has continued to have a distinguished career in both tabletop gaming and video games. He is currently the Life President of Eidos, recently overseeing the release of the latest Tomb Raider game.

Cover artist, Iain McCaig, has an extensive print and film portfolio, and is probably best known for designing Padmé Amidala and Darth Maul for The Phantom Menace!

Tin Man Games have signed a licensing deal to release the Fighting Fantasy series on Android, so expect to see more of your favourite adventure gamebooks appearing soon!

Coming Soon... The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, Deathtrap Dungeon, City of Thieves, Citadel of Chaos, Appointment with F.E.A.R. and more!

If you loved ff Then you will love this. Sure tis expensive, but it is nicely made. Good work sir.

Sharon Rainford

Truly Excellent! Would recommend Loved the original paperback version of this book and love this even more! Bought a couple of the other fighting fantasy apps series too with no complaints and looking forward to seeing more (hopefully) released. Working well on my (nice n cheap) Tesco hudl

As an owner of most of ian livingstones ff books i love the idea of having them on play as to take anywhere...but the most irritating feature is accidently pressing the back button and it quitting without warning hence 4/5 stars cause it can get that irritating. On an up note would really like to see deathtrap dungeon and trials of the champion re hashed

Chris McCartney

The best of the digital FF books. Someone else already stated that this was the best of the old books & now I can confirm that this is the best of the digital ones; a more oldschool D&D feel, more involvement, simple but better storyline, more fun. If I was to recommend one digital gamebook, it would --without a doubt-- be this one. Well worth the money.

Nostalgic blast for the next generation A well executed adaptation of books I used to spend many hours enjoying as a tween. Shamefully have to admit this is the first time I have played strictly to the rules (although options to 'cheat' still exist which is cute). Content was a little scary for my kids (8 & 6) however they were super keen to keep reading and keep pestering me to read it with them. Any thing that encourages my children to read is a win. Great app. Please keep them coming.

Justin Dean

Great nostalgia. Better than the real thing! I spent hours reading these books as a youngster, and thoroughly enjoyed reliving them through these apps. I will be buying them all! Hope to see City of Thieves coming out - that was always my favourite!

andrew blackhurst

Great reworking of a classic series This is a brilliant modern adaptation of the fighting fantasy classic. In fact the automatically updated map, equipment list and character attributes sheet make it even more enjoyable than the original. Great sound effects and a rapid dice battle system make this a quality rpg in its own right. More FF releases soon please guys!

James Westen

Not worth the cash Great update on a classic! But 4 quid for something you'll complete (and likely never go back to) in a couple of hours? ta.

Robert Matthews

Looking forward to this Read almost all of these in school, be great to relive the adventures.

James Corah

A good start I am looking forward to the other promised titles, if they keep up the high standard set here then it will be very good :) Also, really enjoyed the modern v old school settings.

Simon Monk

Played this one many times over and love the replay factor. Great book made even greater with this awesome game book app.

J Red War

Self reading please It has a great book and a great solid app so far but I like to play at work on break and so on so I would love a feature that would allow for the book to be read aloud if this was added a full five stars

Ryan Docherty

Great but a bit expensive I loved Fighting Fantasy - these apps make me feel like a kid again. I can't fault Forest of Doom but it is a bit expensive coming in at over $7 AU (although our lower currency isn't helping). Still going to play the other ones.

Ben Neal

Just what you want Loved the original and love this! Keeping the original artwork etc but offering colour / music options etc is great

Stefan Pietrariu

Great game. Much better than sorcery. My only gripe is I lose all my items when I redo the search but I keep my gold... The map could be a little better in the sense of taping on a location and showing what you found there. Also. I can't find the axe lol, has nothing to do with rating I only have one more spot to check.

Amber Foster

Loved it! How do you change the cover art?

Stephen Jacques

The anomalous FF book! Quite simply THEE perfect FF Book! If you've never read one back in the day, this app version is perfect for those new to the FF universe. It Was book 3 originally, but it captures everything that is at the heart of Fighting Fantasy for me. The Hero, the Wizard and the Quest! Darkwood forest is a perfect location for the traditional 'epic quest' and as all TMG FF book apps, its identical as if you're reading the original book (it even has a retro mode for the ultimate immersion!) To Stonebrigde!!!

Rajan Sanmuga

Great A great app....reminds me when I used to spend my days playing fighting fantasy and doing nothing else.

Pete Watson

Takes me back to my childhood can't recommend these enough! Just wish there was more of them to download

Keeps getting better Like the new automap features.

Elly Brus

Still has the spirit of the books, and the adaption to app actually improves the story. Very replayable.

Simon de Silva

Love It...No Problems I keep dying...and loving it every time. Thank you for bringing back a piece of my childhood in a more portable form

David Ryder

Forest of doom A well loved blast from the past

Darren Coleman

Excellent adventure fun!! Love the tinman series of these title, forest of the doom is my favourite.

Matthew Lovacheff

Blast From The Past +1 I rememeber choose ypur own adventure books and I used to love reading them. This does 1 better by adding the role playing dice elements. I was pleasantly surprised and found myself purposely not memorizing the path to take so that I could keep it fresh. Great Game. I look forward to the GA Collection to be complete so I may purchase them all at once.

Jim Johnston

A blast from the past! If you're reading this then chances are you know a bit about FF books and this adaptation won't disappoint. The gameplay retains all of the thrill the books had and more. It's great to see these books getting a new lease of life on this format and can't wait for some of my other favorites to appear! To Stongebridge!

doorknocker pingu

Mike Harding

Joshua Beley

Nice rendition of an old game book

Benny Palma

keir hall

Amazing I love this game

Dom Klein

A Google User

Super awesome. Love it.

Zafir Shamsulbahri

Frustrated I hate this game.

Yakumo Yakumo

Sharp 104sh When I was a kid back in the 80's I loved reading this story, Death trap Dungeon and many others. This remake is fantastic and brings back childhood memories. The story does seem much shorter now though.

Dan Graves

Old school! I've still got my ff collection and every now and then pick one out for a little nostalgic high, getting the chance to do it on my phone is wonderful, it's difficulty setting maybe abit hard but then so were the original books! A truly fantastic game, only poor point would be theirs too few ports, please bring midnight rogue, deathtrap dungeon, trial of champions, vault of the vampire, dead of night or the 'sorcery' series out as well. Thank you for keeping Allansia alive!

Kelby A

And the point is? I expected a game BOOK to (1) have a compelling story, and (2) allow intelligent choices. Instead the story lies only within the first couple of pages, followed by trivial decisions whose outcomes are often determined by luck. I like RPGs, but I guess I don't like game books.

william sharpnack

A must to play I just can't get enough of these Fighting Fantasy gamebooks.I never had a chance to play the original books. But I know the Tinman versions are very entertaining to play.Looking forward to more stories to follow.Great job, keep em coming!

Nickolas Goodwin

Nostalgia overload Works perfectly on HTC One and is easily customised with font styles and sizes etc. Great thanks to the developer.

Кирилл Солоненко

Awesome Thank You, your gamebook really made me remeber old gamebooks i had a long time ago. Really enjoing it. Maybe add Play Games support? And it consumes really a lot of RAM on my phone. But that's not really a problem. Having a lot of fun!

Keith Donohue

Wonderful This was the first Fighting Fantasy book that I ever read, and even though I eventually grew to prefer others (Citadel of Chaos, please!), this one still holds a fond place in my heart. Thanks for making it so easy to revisit my childhood memories, and please keep making more.

Scott Wells

Way overpriced!!! I was really excited when I found that a few of the Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks that I had played as a child were now available as apps, and the app does not disappoint. The map and character sheet are especially well done. The only thing preventing me from giving a higher rating is the grossly high price for the amount of content. Had this been priced at $2, I would have gladly sought out every book available. At $6 though, I will not be purchasing any more.

Steven Flanagan

Really appreciate that the app shows the paragraph numbers so that you can verify that different paths lead to the same resolution. I would like to see a version of the map that accumulates over multiple plays so that I can see where I have never explored.

Neil Holford

Is it really 30 years since the first time? Great to re-visit this classic again. Works very well on a tablet too

Tahir Khalid

Step back in time Wow this was like a time warp for me I grew around these kinds of books and fantasy games

Aaron O'Kearney

Great fun I remember this when the book first came out. Good old days.

Joshua Wagar

Amazing This is super addictive and I love playing it, it does get frustrating when you know you are gunna die and there's nothing u can do about it nomatter were your bookmarks are. But still a amazing game/book. :-)

Neil James

Oh My... My childhood just exploded across my smartphone, or something...

Thommy Doombringer

Nice one Short Story but very entertaining

Kevin Jackson

Fun while it lasted Not the greatest piece of interactive fiction, but it makes for an enjoyable afternoon of play. Unfortunately, not a lot of replay value, unless you want to hunt down the achievements and artwork. But it was worth playing through once.

Dominicfrancis Dullaghan

Happy, happy, happy! Would of looked for the Fighting Fantasy series on PlayStore months ago but wrongly assumed it would be a "fool's errand"... Extremely nice presentation, nice options and very intriguing (even on my 'low spec' budget device). only giving '4 Stars' because 'dice' DON'T always fall in my favour... like the 'cheat option', definitely using it... probably be back with a '5th Star edit' later. €2:15! :-) Thank you.

Robert Allan

Memory Lane is fun! I loved this a book as a kid but I never played it without cheating! I'm enjoying doing it the right way now.

Frederick Good

Very enjoyable Haven't played a game on my mobile that I enjoyed this much for years! Brings back the memories.

Sam Dude

Good game, but very short. You can do this whole "Book" in about an hour. It is fun nonetheless and the writing is okay. However it comes to an abrupt unexpected end and you are left thinking "That's it? Really?"

Lee Gridley

Overpriced! Good content just not enough of it. Faithful digital version of the paperback original though.

ben fg

Awesome Absolutely perfect. These guys have really paid tribute to the whole thing. Yes, pricey - but they have really worked for it.
