The Spot a Stroke F.A.S.T. app

The American Stroke Association is proud to introduce the “Spot a Stroke F.A.S.T.” app, now available in English and Spanish for free download.

Stroke is a leading cause of disability and number four cause of death in the United States, behind diseases of the heart and cancer. Approximately 795,000 individuals will have a stroke each year; of these, 167,000 individuals will die and more will suffer a major disability.

F.A.S.T. is an easy way to remember the sudden signs of a stroke. When you can spot the signs, you'll know quickly that you need to call 9-1-1 for help. This is important because the sooner a stroke victim gets to the hospital, the sooner they'll get treatment. And that can make a remarkable difference in their recovery.

Helpful When my mother had a stroke, I could not remember what to look for. I noticed that one side of her face looked a little droopy, but if I had had this app, it would have been more apparent. Luckily, I got her to the hospital, but I really wasn't sure at the time.

Joseph Murphy

A Great Teaching Aid My daughter got this at her CPR class and it is extremely helpful for teaching others.

What's the point? What is the point of this app again besides making me spend 8.5mb to download it? I can see it now. "Hey Grandma, You're having a stroke. Hold on while I read the information contained in this app."

Amanda Broadman

My mother suffered a stroke in 2010. I wish I had known then what I know now what to watch out for. This is truly awesome!

Potential Lifesaver Not everyone knows the signs of a stroke but nearly everyone has a smartphone. An app is the easiest way to get critical information in a hurry. THAT'S the "point." You may know all the signs but one day you may have a stroke and no one around knows it-and you won't be able to tell them. Ironic if your last coherent thought before death, brain damage, or paralysis was how you wish someone had this app . . .

Kate Dever

The more you know!

Jeremy Johnson

Great info This is handy knowledge, but I hate the haptic feedback.
