Skip HTC Locations

Posted by Achim Beinroth in Tools | Aug. 15, 2013 | 36 Comments

Apk file size: 15.0 KB

This App lets you bypass "HTC Locations" and select a map application of your choice when you want to display a location out of your contacts or calendar.

It is currently not the intention of this App to change the behaviour of the car dock mode.

Some HTC phones have "HTC Locations" installed and force you to use it prior to Google Maps or other maps.
So this App is relevant only for such phones having the Locations App pre-installed. On other devices it just doesn’t do anything.
Devices: One X, One S, Sensation, Desire HD/Z/S

The App cannot be started manually. It is just registered to intercept the start of "HTC Locations" under certain conditions.
It does not consume battery or resources.

Operation:
On first use (open a location in contacts or calendar) you are prompted to select either Location Picker or this App.
If you check the checkbox for “use by default” you will not be prompted again for this selection.
You can directly select between Google Maps or other installed map applications instead.
To undo the default selection, go to the Application settings of your phone, select this App and press the “Clear defaults” button.

Does what it says on the box My HTC One XL wouldn't load calendar locations, because HTC Locations doesn't work. This app does exactly what it says, and thanks to Google Maps being a pretty clever thing, it makes the location feature in Calendar useful again. Good work :)

Thank you This is great, thank you for making it. HTC should stop making these kind of apps that don't add value but actually cripple the device. This is Android and Android works with Google Maps, that's it

Perfect HTC location, can't find anything!! Total crap. Thank god for this app..... Fyi in HTC car, touch the battery icon, this takes you to settings, scroll to bottom select default navigation app, google maps.

Andrew Johnson

Very useful... Seems to work a bit better than the "Use other Map" application which was kindly written by someone else. Thanks!

Nearly perfect Nearly perfect. Just needs the car dock behavior added

Corey Broman

Sweet jesus Thank you, I hate locations

Jason Hill

Didn't solve the problem of skipping HTC locations. When inputting event in calender the locations icon will only take you to HTC locations. Is exactly the same as other app " select other map for HTC v1.0" for this situation.

Eric Moore

Does what it says hooray!

Perfect!!! Thank you so much! Shame HTC, for forcing us a useless grade maps/nav. Shame!

Norm Excellent behaviour changer - pity its not designed for In-car mode. Would happily pay for app that stops HTC Locations from being launched in car mode when docked in an HTC accessory instead of the Car Panel since Android 2.3.5/Sense 3.0 update.

Fantastic Fantastic, gets rid of having to use locations which is the most useless and annoying navigation EVER! Shame on HTC for ever imposing this second rate navigation on us all

A Google User

Please make it work with car dock! Works perfect. I'll pay for it if you get it working with car dock

A Google User

HTC Velocity 4G works perfectly Just follow the instructions and you can't go wrong. Works for calendar and contacts as decribed.

Works perfect First ever time I have commented... This problem was painful given the crap app we were forced to use! thanks very much for the work around! Hopefully HTC don;t work out a way to disable this! it was a real pain going in and editing the location field copying and pasting into maps. Thanks heaps!

A Google User

Does not work... Installed ok on Desire HD but no install options. I only have Uninstall button. Help!

A Google User

Brilliant Does the job. Simple. When is HTC going to wake up and realise every other phone maker has FREE maps. I can't believe anyone would actually pay to user the crappy HTC maps. Google maps craps on it.

A Google User

if only after installing, i noticed the comment about not intending to change car dock behavior. Can you PLEASE change car dock behavior??

A Google User

Does what it says. Wish it would skip when put into car mode. Would be fantastic if it could go straight to Google navigation when clicking addresses.

A Google User

Not flyer compatible Doesn't work on my flyer which uses HC but does on my Desire S

A Google User

Thank you Exactly the work around that every htc owner wants. HTC take the hint and disable the feature in the first place

A Google User

Perfect! Finally got rid of HTC Locations.
