SambaDroid is a native port for Android of the popular Samba for Linux.
This application allows you to share/manage files on your device easily from any PC of your network: once started just type [Win]+[R] in your computer, write \\SAMBADROID and enjoy!
q: Why my transfer speed decrease when I turn off the screen?
a: Enable the option 'Lock Wifi'. If your device is running at least Android 2.3.x, you should get full speed transfer even when the screen is off, otherwise enable the option 'Lock screen' too.
q: I got the message "Can not find a valid WiFi interface", how can I solve it?
a: On some devices (Galaxy Note 2 in particular) the WiFi interface is not detected from the application, please set the option "Bind interfaces" to wlan0
q: How can I use this app if my device is connected with an ethernet cable?
a: Disable the require WiFi option and set as bind interface eth0

Great app I really like this app. I have used Samba File Sharing by funkyFresh and liked it but I find SambaDroid more stable. SambaDroid also has more features that are useful to me. One problem should be addressed, SambaDroid cannot copy large files using a Windows 7 PC as client. When copying a 7GB file it fails with the error "There is not enough space on" (destination). The file copies fine when I use the android as client.
Best SMB app but beginining to think the dev might be done with this Having tried many other apps to turn my android stick into a dedicated SMB server, I can safely say this is the simplest and best out there. Already bought because its worth it! For people with an asus router and a ddns name who access their shares via aicloud webpage or however, you can see and access your android device from Lan or Wan. I would recommend this app to anyone looking to samba share because it just works My only complaint is the slow/nonexistant updates. Really hope the dev isn't a no sho
Fast server on lollipop After a few hiccups (related to another samba app not working, and causing issues), Sambadroid is working a treat, and anecdotally faster than ServersUltimate in transfer speeds. Also working with my sd card. Thanks dev.
Only works fine for small files When I tried to copy large files, my phone became unresponsive and sometimes reboots after a few minutes. Emailed to dev, get no support. I purchased both SSHDroid and this app. What a shame.
Working Well on NEXUS 4 with 4.2.2 Have PRO version with whitelisted WIFI and ability to add user accounts. Only minor issue is that I need to unlock the phone before windows can connect, Hate the phone's MTP, love being able to use RoboCopy again! I am using Windows 7 with my Nexus 4 (Android 4.2.2) and am having no issues with setting up a unique userid and password. On the Windows end you must specify "domain\username" otherwise its a user error :-) Now usings Servers Ultimate.
Trying to use on odroid server using the app on an Odroid-XU3 running 4.4.4. The app works perfectly when I use the on board 100Mbit but when using the usb3.0 gigabit adaptor, the app keeps coming up with a warning saying "WARNING: no network interfaces found." Except I am connected to the network, there is the ethernet icon up on the taskbar letting me know that I am connected and I am currently doing this review while connected threw my usb3.0 gigabit ethernet adaptor. As I do not use the on board 100Mbit (being too slow for file transfers and HD media sharing) this bit of software is useless to me till then. It will get 5 stars from me when I can use gigabit.
Awesome! At first, I was trying to use Samba Filesharing app but it didn't work for my Nexus 5. It didn't have the option to change the folder so I kept getting "sdcard" directory not fount on my PC. This one lets me change to the right folder and now I'm able to backup (sync) my phone's data to my PC with Synchronicity.
Nice Horrible misleading adverts in the free version that try to trick the user into believing they have a virus on the phone. Dev should consider different ad provider if possible. However the app itself works great even on the latest Lollipop. Good price and purchased to allow use of sharing external sdcard as well.
Excellent app......but..... throws an "invalid argument" error at exactly 2.1GB into any large file transfer (I have >50GB available space). This is the only Samba app that has worked for me (on a linux machine). It is extremely simple to use and very effective for smaller file tranfers. Hopefully the large file transfer problem will be fixed very soon.
Nice job done, but.. This is the only one samba server which is working on my minix perfectly: gigabit ethernet + multiple internal & external drives, so I bought the pro version. But.. I found out, I cannot copy larger files from my w7 computer then approx. 6GB :( This is only one problem I have, but it's quite bad as I cannot copy full hd movies to my minix, I will rate 5* when this problem gets fixed.
Works but a little problem Thank you for the app. It was working perfectly until kit kat. But ever since updating to lollipop the service is not stable. It still works but I constantly have to relaunch the app and refresh the connection, otherwise my pc is unable to make the connection. Can you please look into it. I use a galaxy s4 stock rom (rooted)
Works flawlessly on my S4 paid $2 for pro without a second thought
can't transfer large files Hello Developer, I am having issues with transfering large files. I tried to transfer a 2GB file and larger and I receive an error saying that there isn't enough space on the device, however the device has over 2TB of space available. I receive "negative len requested" when i view the app on the device. Is there a file size limitationg to the free version? I didn't see any description for it. I was going to buy pro to have multiple hard drives connected, however this would be a deal breaker if i couldnt' transfer larger GB files. Please help
Makes setting up a Samba server simple Best app for people who don't understand Samba but need it.
Not even starting Tried to start the service, the status says "starting" for about 10 seconds then it just "stopped".
Failed Get Root Access Failed getting root access on my smartphone. Galaxy Fit stock rom GB
Works extremely well! Great app! It does not exhibit the lag that other Samba Server apps do! The only down side I have seen is that I am having a hard time getting it to auto start on reboot on my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
one star too good Time waster, app does nothing until you pay for it
WiFi Direct works - protip You can get this to work (confirmed on a Galaxy Note 3) on WiFi Direct by unchecking "Require WiFi" option and setting "Bind interface" option to p2p-wlan0-0 Would be awesome if the developer coded that to automatically happen when connected to another device using WiFi Direct.
Nice Add the pro features to the free version and make the ad free version paid. Works great
Not working It uses wifi internet it should use tethernet mod
Great app. Works well... Affordable as well. Works well. Very flexible options yet simplified. Thanks for this.
performance too inconsistent please update with material design
Cannot access internal card
Whitelist is nonfunctional.. I'm confused as to what practical purposes, if any, the whitelist is supposed to serve. The SMB service is starting whether the network I'm connected to is checked on the whitelist or not.. So.....??
It did what it said Relatively easily
working smb server! Fails when working with 2GB+ files. Except for that - wow. somehow, it took several hours to find smb server, which would work for windows 7 clients as well. 3 over tools from gmarket's top for "samba server" search were not working for me. (note 2, android 4.1.2). Moreover, this tool provided ~1MB/s in free version, and ~3.5 MB/s in paid version, which is very nice..
Perfect Does what it should.
Baught it, didn't get it. I baught the app via the in app purchase function. And it doesn't activate, ads are still there. And it keeps repeating: Purchase restored, if I try again. Seems to be bad coding!
Not working on Moto x 2014 It worked great on my nexus 5 but on my moto x explorers can't seem to find the path.
Only samba server worth using This developer had made the best ssh server for android power users and now he's doing it again for samba.
Needs improvement This app is pretty nice, but there are 2 issues I've come across. 1) On my phone (Note 3) the service keeps stopping itself. I have to keep starting it up manually, even though both autostart service and boot autostart are enabled. 2) On a 2nd/3rd+ device you can't register for the pro edition again. It gives you an error saying you've already purchased it, then leaves you on basic.

Fir3man Great application, worked great "from the box". Really friendly GUI. Easy to configure. Thank you!
Very useful great app!
? Nice functional app. I hided the notification, and app auto starts with WiFi connection, thus things works automated?! However though this app is provided with Root access, sometimes app displays error showing, NO ROOT PRIVILEGE. Force closing app and starting it fixes this, but its something dev should note....
this is what i need really works well, even it consume little high cpu but its fine, thanks
Excellent software. I really recommended this one for using to share files in a windows network.
Possibly the best... Simply stated. Possibly the best SMB server for android. I have used this app across multiple devices and versions of android, from Motorola RAZR M to an ODROID C1 dev board. Five stars if the large file size transfer bug is fixed.
Impressive Config is clean. Let's see how it works.
How did they do it!!?!
Doesn't work Fails on attempting to write file, note 3, CyanogenMod 12.1
I can't believe I haven't thought of setting up a samba server on my device before. It makes life so much easier! I've tried a few apps that claim to do this but this is the only one that works flawlessly, so I upgraded to pro without hesitation :) Also, if anyone is having problems with the connection dropping after not using it for some time when the screen is off: I had the same problem and then I used the IP instead of the NETBIOS name when adding a network location and it doesn't drop anymore.
The only one that works flawlessly, at least when rooted. I've tried other SMB apps before - some of them only work some of the time, others work but have stupidly slow transfer speeds, and others don't work at all. This one works 100% of the time, at 100% transfer speeds - I mean 100%, like as fast as the wifi chip in my phone is capable of copying. Actually it might even be a little faster than copying through something on the phone like ES File Explorer. I couldn't access my phone through the netbios name, had to use the IP address, but I think that's a Windows bug not a problem with this app. Anywho, this is how I'm copying files to and from my device from now on, without question.
Only one that works After rooting my device I tried several samba servers and this one was the only one that allowed me full access to the entire filesystem over SMB, worked perfect connecting from my Mac too!
Really easy to setup. Works great apart from one thing. It doesn't appear to have large file support, so I can't transfer anything over 2GB in size. Since most of what I want to copy is larger than that it's kinda useless to me.. Shame since I paid for the Pro version.....
The app has great potential and I would give it 5 stars if you can advise how I can solve the problem with the transfer of large files (8 GB of file size ~), I am unable to see the correct size of an large file (tried on windows machine and android) and it copies some of the file making the file unusable , please help. P.S. I even got the PRO version and it has the same problem.
Works Ok - normally, functionally as expected, I even bought the Pro. But now I almost regret it. For some reason the program uses high amount of CPU resources non-stop! I waited for 15-20-30 minutes, no joy. I had exceptionally high number of files from one app (about 35,000) DRM protected storage at first (I know this), but when it completed, the app continues to drain the battery at drastic rate. I stopped the service, then chose Quit, still no joy. There is no service in Running Apps, I had to go to Cached processes and kill the app, then the CPU went down to normal (using Process Monitor). It works very well though. I think I have to uninstall it but I will monitor it for some time and edit the review. Now the third time I started and stopped the service it seems to behave well.. we'll see.
Excellent! Only thing I could possibly ask for is a flat status bar icon that fits well with the OS but that's just aesthetics. This app is quite possibly the only SMB share app on the whole store right now and it does exactly what it's supposed to do.
This does NOT work on Marshmallow, at least on the Nexus 6P. I emailed the dev back at the end of October and have yet to receive I response.
Start/Stop issue V2.1.2 is somwhat better but on my LG tablet the starting is still an issue! The application starts and works ok but the start user interface gets stuck in an endless loop :(
Easy and painless installation. Awesome job integrating Samba. I'm a tech junkie but the GUI is easy to use and self explanatory.
Major problem ... I'm having the same problem as at leat one other user here. In wiindows 10 Sambadroid server reports the wrong file sizes on many files thus rendering them useless. Am using the Pro version on an Android Box (MyGica 1800E) running android version 4.4.2 and a WD Live drive connected to the Box via USB. This issue is not just cosmetic. If it can't be fixed then Sambadroid is useless to me. It's been over a month now and not even an acknowledgment. This app is DEAD!
Doesn't work on new Android 6.0.
STILL needs update Not working for Marshmallow. Excellent app but needs refresh.
Solution for Marshmallow: Use SELinuxModeChanger APK (search for it on XDA) under Android v6 to resolve SIGTERM failure to launch host.
Works fine for me. I am running on a rooted Nexus 4 on 6.0 Marshmellow so no problems with 6.0 here. Only problem I am having is whenever I access my phone via my PC it doesn't ask for log in details. This might just be me missing something but it makes this sever very vunerable to use until I can sort this out.
Great! There aren't that many SMB server apps for Android out there, and this one could be why.... Because its the only one you need! After using the free version for all of five minutes, I bought the pro version for only two bucks... Well worth it. Keep up the good work!!!!
Crippleware garbage. Must pay them to share out the sd card and the phone's internal file system at the same time.
Doesn't work on Android M Upgraded Nexus 5 to Android M and now SambaDroid won't start.
Works well Connected an external USB HDD to an Android TV box and using SambaDroid to make it a cheap NAS. The free version is all that it needs.
*Edit* Android 6 Users. Just Change SeLinux from Enforcing to Permissive via Selinuxchanger App. Glad it's working on my G3 D855 running MM.
Was working, now not Couldn't produce stack trace, whatever that means... panic, internal error. Some other errors. It was working earlier idk.. fault c.335.. dump core
Not going back to AirDroid Because this app stole my attention as it integrates neatly with my file explorer and is less demanding for resources. This even works if you only have local network access (but no internet)...
Works good! I would like more options for this app. But it does what it says fairly easily.
Didn't work on marshmallow
Can have great autolaunch options It would be a great idea to have the service auto launch on connecting to certain SSIDs or IPs to make it seamless and fully automated
Needs Nexus Player support. Works great on the Amazon Fire TV, but on the Nexus Player the menu button doesn't work. Tried using an air mouse with no success. Fix and easy 5 stars.
Seems to work well, I could do without the animations and extra intro graphics.
I really like the idea of this app, and it's just what I need. I bought the paid version hoping transfer speeds would be better that the free version, but it is just painfully, painfully slow, almost to the point of unusable. Does anyone know of a solution?
Cannot Handle large file, hope future update can handle large file
No settings It starts and is suddenly on an island of its own!
Does not start on 6.0 Status stays red and says stopped. Even after trying to start manually.
Requires your device to be rooted!
Fantastic Quick and easy to configure. Let's me update my current TV shows on my SD card without removing it.
Can't get the menu window to open in NexusPlayer! Will update my rating once I can actually use the app!!!!
Unadvertised 2 GB limit on transfers. Anything over 2 GB will start and fail after transferring 2 GB.
Kinda ok Connection is tough to reach sometimes ... several attempts needed . Otherwise best in the world
Excelent Is just what I've looking for very outstanding app.
Great app Great app, does what it's supposed to do. Good replacement for LG's wifi storage app
Got the free version today for testing on an android stick with 4.4.2. The stick is connected by WiFi and I connected my laptop. So far so good... ..but I have one single issue: If I activate MAC filtering on my router, the connection get´s lost. I had to deactivate the MAC filter to get it back working.
Works like a charm I love this app. I was able to connect my ipad directly to my Android phone. That's so convenient (and every other device I own). Only complaint is that I had to search to find the port it was using so that I could connect my ipad. The main info screen should show this information too.
Working Well on NEXUS 4 with 4.2.2. Doesn't work at all on Marshmallow (6) Have PRO version with whitelisted WIFI and ability to add user accounts.
Goodbye crappy MTP, Hello Samba! It's hard to believe I just discovered this fantastic app after owning Android phones since the first T-Mobile G1. I hated the way MTP worked and your phone's storage would not mount as a filesystem. This app solves that problem and couldn't be easier to set up. Two thumbs up!
Awesome Its awesome to see my android from the network but it is bugged with Windows. Anyway in linux ubuntu works perfectly :D
Work as expected. I'm using Windows 10. I'm able to map shares, specify username to access, change the host name, etc. The device appears in the network node in Windows File Explorer. Nice app. Android 6 Marshmallow Users: Just Change SeLinux from Enforcing to Permissive via Selinuxchanger App that can be found on XDA. Worked in my Galaxy S5 running CM13 and on my Nexus 6P.
Great app. Supports users and passwords to make browsing from Windows 7+ smooth. Much easier than locating a USB cable and works anywhere. Only issue I've had is after upgrading to Android 6.0.1, the service failed to start. I had to install SELinuxModeChanger. Now starting the service is a two-step process for me; I set SEL to Permissive, then start SMB. To stop the service, I stop SMB and then set SEL to Enforcing.
Not working I start it and it stops by itself a few moments later. It never even starts. Idk whats wrong but i really want it to work. im on a galaxy s7. 1 thing i notice is another samba share app also has this same problem even though it worked on my s5. Maybe incompatible with marshmallow?
Wonderful app (and upgraded to Pro version) -- would be 5 star but it no longer works if the device is set to have SELinux as Enforcing, which newer devices/Android versions have. It still works if you alter the SE status to permissive though.
Not working on rooted Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with Marshmallow- Service will not start, I've tried manually adding the interface binding to wlan0
Not working with Huawei Mate 8 Android 6.0.1....Works good in my Note 3 N9005 with Android 6.0.1 .... please fix the problem for Mate 8 ...
Works Great Does what it say's it will do.
Works brilliantly! My last phone didn't support this app but now that I have a phone that does support it I realise what I was missing! Great for full windows-share access to your files (with user access control and passwords) from any computer on your network. Great job Dev!
The simplest solution by far ... I tried a number of apps here on Google Play before settling on the best ... SambaDroid is by far the simplest & most effective solution if, like me, you find you can no longer mount your Lollipop/Marshmallow external SD Card on the PC. For my last phone, I'd written my OWN app to bypass these restrictions, but unfortunately with Google tightening up on security lately, that no longer works. Take the advice from someone who understands how these things work ... maybe even splash out on the Pro version =)
Great with Lollipop but doesn't work with Marshmallow And no information from the developer as to whether this problem will be addressed in the near future.
No suport for huge files greater than 2GB
FYI for everyone on MARSHMALLOW/CM13 : SELinux has to be set to permissive for this app to work, otherwise it does not start. 5 stars if the dev figures out how to start samba server with SELinux set to enforcing, if that can me done at all. Also please add this to your FAQ.
Transfer speeds were capped at 10MB/s when connected thru Ethernet on a UHS 1 SD card
SELinuxModeChanger does not work with SuperSU 2.76. I rolled SuperSU back to 2.46 and it works again.
Update SambaDroid no longer works after updating to Android 6.0.1. I used to like this app.
No longer works Bought this app ages ago and enjoyed it until I updated to Android 6. Now it doesn't work and no updates have happened with the app for over 12 months now. Not good enough from the author
? Nice functional app. I hided the notification, and app auto starts with WiFi connection, thus things works automated?! However though this app is provided with Root access, sometimes app displays error showing, NO ROOT PRIVILEGE. Force closing app and starting it fixes this, but its something dev should note...
Working on S7 edge? I'm very happy with SambaDroid on all Android smartphones and tablets, but I stops after starting on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Exynos. Others having the same issue?
Doesn't work. Can't access the android from my PCs and there seems to be no user settings! How can it connect if it doesn't even allow you to enter the Workgroup name? And yet ANOTHER app that assumes that ALL devices are wireless phones (my device is a wired Android TV Box) Under FAQ, the author says to disable the require WiFi option and set as bind interface eth0, yet no such setting exists - as i noted before, there are NO user settings. If I go to the top right corner, the only options are "Clear log" and "Quit."
SM-N910F. 5.1.1 The best samba server on market indeed but 4 stars because it doesn't work via any radio interface except wlan (so sad because FTP Droid do it easely).
