UNRESPONSIVE DEV, OK otherwise I have issues connecting when on LTE, Can only connect on WiFi. Emailed Dev to inquire whether this was a limitation of the app or possibly android or maybe even my particular service provider. I also had a question about permissions and setting timestamps. NO REPLY. Otherwise, this app is simple to use, and quite powerful if you're familiar with command line rsync. If not a Google search for "man rsync" will give you all the info you need. STILL NO REPLY!!!!
Excellent app. Allows easy backup of my sdcard. Please add the ability to backup/restore configuration to sdcard. Typing the config on a phone keyboard is really painful. And turning the phone from portrait to landscape restarts the rsync, which is really annoying.
Almoust perfect, BUT - no ICONV support Tool works good with ssshd server, however there is one tink makes it useless.. I have many russian files on phone - and their names are corrupted while copeing to windows machine. And the rsync binary doesnt support the iconv... That is bad. Is it possible to have it with this?
Outstanding I use it to easily keep files in sync across multiple devices in conjunction with a cloud host. Takes a little setup but well worth the effort. Works well with Tasker.
Pretty good, but.... I use this to sync data from my computer to my phone. Works OK to the internal storage, but gets "permission denied" trying to write to the external SD card :-(. This on an LG G3 running Lollipop. Please fix it!
Great Great app. Works perfectly. Works fine with Android 5.
Exactly what I was looking for I tried a couple different methods of syncing images directly with my desktop rather than going through Dropbox or adp. Titanium backup needs root access to rsync? What? Syncs my audio books from a folder on my Macintosh with one connection, and all my images and videos to my desktop with another. No magic, just good old rsync.
Seems to need root Looks very promising and transparent (ssh, rsync to my computer instead of some cloud), however it tries to create a local /data/.ssh directory, which fails miserably on my non-rooted device. Very promising, but very unfortunate.
Se card support? Any chance lollipop sdcard support will be added?
Rsync Works perfectly.
Sincere thanks Thanks for doing this. Great app.
Works well, can't backup /data because it doesn't request su The program works very well, but it doesn't request super user, so it can't backup all folders such as /data/
Indispensible I use this to back my Titanium Backups to my home computer (Linux) in addition to Dropbox or Google Drive. Now that it works again with Lollipop, I am sleeping more soundly at night. My only complaint on the update is that I can no longer change the log file font size, so I have to get out my microscope to read the log. Not sure why it defaults to nano-sized fonts, but it does.
Great time saver I love this app. It syncs all my photos and stuff from the phone. This way I don't have to worry about backup or missing files. Also it saves a lot of time because you only have to set it up once and the just hit the fire-and-forget button. I'm glad, that the new version (2.0.1) works with Android 5.
Excellent backup solution + tasker + lollipop support This is an excellent way to backup media using the Rsync protocol. It supports integration with taker for completely automatic backups. I use this to backup newly clicked pictures and videos automatically at midnight everyday to my NAS, if connected to my home Wifi. Thanks to the dev for quick lollipop support.
Awesome but Needs Polish I REALLY like this app, and it does exactly what I want - allows me to use rsync over SSH on my phone. I can't give it 5 stars though because of some simple annoying quirks, particularly not turning off autocorrect and/or autocomplete on the configuration fields. I can't stand it when I'm entering a hostname only to have the autocorrect mess it up when I enter a '.'
Worth every penny A well done tool! The directions on his site are very helpful to get started properly. I wish I would have found this sooner.
Takes time to understand but EXCELLENT It takes time to understand ' rsync' but when you do it is an EXCELLENT tool for backup and synchronize data. The app also needs OI File Manager.
Back in business Works again with lollipop update. If you know what rsync is, this is the app you're looking for. Supports RSA.
Close to naked rsync - perfect Take my money!
Works great Thanks, the recent update fixed the issues I was having with lollipop.
Doesn't work with Lollipop This is an excellent app, but it doesn't work with Android 5 Lollipop. It just says: "error: only position independent executables (PIE) are supported."
Best App On My Phone This app (along with Tasker) helps me automate backups of my pics and videos. A simple port of rsync, amazing!
Super! Thanks very much for the update! I have also made a donation.
Absolutely perfect I actually use this to sync data to my phone rather than from it. The Tasker support makes it happen automatically in the middle of the night so i wake up with an updated file set from my server.
Ui is barebones but it works! Real rsync not something like it
Awesome App... And Dev! Upgraded to lollipop wasn't working, sent email to Dev, works great now! Must have app if you have a server to sync to!
cant rsync local to local. only to remote host.
Works like a charm with the cygwin ssh server It's demanding to install cygwin ssh server in windows environment. But once installed this app works best so well
Amazing Thanks for the update, fixes issues on lollipop.
Awesome rsync is the ultimate linux backup tool, So nice to have it on my Thunderbolt. One click and My SDcard is backed up to my server!
Nice app with a flaw in reverse sync. Nice app. Really like it. I've found one flaw re:sync in reverse direction. Hope it can be addressed by the author. After spending some time investigating, I have found a way to reproduce it. If there are more than 75 files on the server, it gets stuck and makes no progress for a long time until this error message appears and the process exits itself. "error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(600)"
Good when it used to work Used to work wonderfully, but the current version (1.6.1) doesn't seem to work with recent SSH versions, giving an error 'no matching algo kex'.
Great to have rsync on Android Works as expected, but I had to use a magnifying glass to configure it. It would be nice to have a way to configure what to do when rsync'ing succeeds or fails. I'd like to get rid of the ads and I'd love to pay for it.
Fantastic While interface is sparse, it is just as good as I can imagine! Using it to synchronise movies to my TF101 from my Linux desktop. While other file-transfer manager has a tendency to crash or just be dubiously slow, this one just powers through. That it will resume transfers if I abort it is just a gigantic bonus - all other file transfer utilities I tested so far, will just overwrite.
Beautiful for automatic SDCard backups Great for backing up the sd-card + "fake" sdcard on my Photon 4G. Where Titanium Backup leaves off (app + internal data backups), this picks up. Especially beautiful since I can use "excludes" file lists to exclude things such as .android-security, system caches, and other file-types that TB takes care of.
Fixing "no matching algo kex" Modern OpenSSH server has dropped support for the key exchange used by this application, resulting in an error of "no matching algo kex" . This can be worked around by getting a modern dropbear ssh binary from SSHDroid and replacing the ssh in the data rsync4android files/ directory.
Quite powerful and practical This app provides a very flexible way to set up multiple transfers and repeat them with ease. But one definitely needs to know what they are doing. I highly recommend making sure you can connect to the target server from some other host because the failure messages aren't good. The log window font is quite small and it scrolls poorly. It was unable to set times on transferred files. Anyway, it fits the bill and it's single-click once set up.
Yep! Great! That's what I looking for!
I'm running into the "won't work without wifi" issue as well. It seems to be because the rsync command line puts square brackets around the hostname in the rsync command line. As a workaround, I put in the raw ip address and it seems to work now.
