Prenatal Tunes

This app is a collection of music to play during and after pregnancy. Included in this collection are several Baroque songs and smooth, easy listening songs.

Studies have shown that, not only drugs, alcohol, smoking and diet, but also strong emotions and thoughts effect pregnant women leaving a lasting imprint on the child. Therefore active parenting starts while the baby is still developing in the womb and at the moment of conception, whether we are conscious of it or not.

Music is most suitable for the task of nurturing the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual development of the unborn baby. The extraordinary benefits of music during pregnancy have been documented over the last two decades, due to a period of tremendous scientific advancement in the understanding of life in the womb and after birth. The baby before birth is a hearing, feeling, and sensing being.

The choice of music is paramount during pregnancy Songs have soothed colicky and fretful babies. The sense of familiarity will convey a sense of emotional comfort, as lullabies will bring back pleasant memories of life experienced in the nurturing womb. Research has shown that babies develop prenatal memories. The songs and music that is heard frequently before birth will be recognized after birth.

Ultrasound has shown how babies react to music within the confined space of the womb. Studies have further shown that babies prefer classical and baroque music. Baroque music closely resembles the mother’s heartbeat at rest. Optimally, music selected for pregnancy needs repetition at regular intervals becoming a natural and joyful addition to everyday life. When music brings pleasure and enjoyment to the parents, these emotional qualities will also be communicated to the baby.

Music enhances prenatal bonding. One of the most intimate and pleasurable events experienced by the baby in the womb is his mother’s singing. It is also one of the first dialogues exchanged between mother and child. Songs that communicate love, acceptance, and welcome are most reassuring to the baby. This is a two way process whereby the mother and child form a close attachment, developing trust, a feeling of safety, and a sense of belonging. All other relationships will build on the quality of this first exchange. If we are nurtured lovingly with respect and consistency, then we will most likely treat others in the same manner.

Even though our lives might be stressful, what matters most is the way the mother thinks and feels about her developing baby, her fears and hopes. Hence, the mother’s thoughts and feelings provide the material out of which the child creates his personality. We are not referring to passing fears and difficulties of daily life, rather the underlying, and recurring negative thoughts and emotions. Music also contributes in this context, as our values regarding life will be communicated by the choice of lyrics and genre. It will impact us through the vibrational field created by the sound and the feelings they evoke either as harmonious or dissonant.
