View and modify OpenDocuments on the go using OpenDocument Reader!
OpenDocument Reader allows you to read your ODF (OpenDocument Format) documents wherever you are. In the bus on your way to school? No problem! With OpenDocument Reader you can read and search through your documents in a very clean and simple way. Is there just one last typo left to fix in your document? It now supports modification of documents too! Fast, simple and well integrated.
You can start reading your documents from within other apps. Supported apps include...
- Google Drive
- lots of other apps
“ODF” is the format used by office suites like OpenOffice and LibreOffice. Text documents (.odt), as well as spreadsheets (.ods) and also presentations (.odp) are supported, including support for complex formatting and embedded images. Graphs are no problem either. If you want to secure your data you can even open password-protected documents.
This app is open-source. We are not affiliated with OpenOffice, LibreOffice or similar.
In order to buy ourselves some food, ads are shown while using this app. Bearing with them is highly appreciated!

Well... I like this app very muxh I use this app quite regularly, OpenOffice documents are, finally!, more common these days. And this app handles them well
Finally an app that works I work as a head chef so I get PDF files that won't open on my phone I down loaded all the so called PDF file openers none worked as soon as I downloaded this app I was able to view all menus and catering functions I have.
This app + Kingston Office ! View, open, edit, create, save any document either from Microsoft office formats and OpenOffice formats and PDFs also. Exactly what I was looking for - lightweight app for viewing and editing OpenDocuments. It takes 5,3 MB of storage - fantastic. I have downloaded AndrOpen Office before, it was big (cca 50MB) and it was no good for my phone (4''), it didn't fit on screen and it wasn't well optimalized for android (interface almost like PC version and zooming was wierd)
Does the job Doesn't seem to want to open txt or pdf files but fine with odf open document files... which is what it's supposed to do I guess. More supported formats, more stars.
Cannot open files from sd card This app does it's job pretty well. The only disapointment is that it cannot open files that are stored in the sd card. You have to copy them to the device storage.
Read, Edit are just fine. I need to add entries in an existing calc sheet and it won't permit. Also does not have calc capability. Not installing, yet, but it does not solve my problem.
Editing unreliable at best It opens and reads documents well. Editing is slow, stupid, and DELETES EVERYTHING I TYPE WHEN I CHANGE ORIENTATION! No save function!
Works... with issues It opens .odt files, which I needed, but it argues every time about where and how to save them, and instead of allowing me to choose any options when saving changes to the open file, it just creates a new file, saves on the internal sd instead of the external, and always names it modified-by-my-half-assed-product or something similiar. I am uninstalling. This program is too annoying with its lack of user-oriented choices
Good with more work A great app. Opens well but does not save properly yet. It needs to save the new file in the same directory as the original with a date stamp. Good lite app but needs a little more work. Ran on Asus Transformer TF300T
Needed a good program I had been trying to get a good program that does what open office does. I got everything I was looking for with this one. It's incredibly stable, hasn't crashed once on me, plus it opens any format of document I use. I love this program.
I like it. Dear Developer(s), it's great to see this. Great job so far, but you're not done yet. When editing is smoothed out you'll get 5 stars from me. Keep up the good work.
Great job. Exactly what I need - view my Libreoffice docs and make some simple changes easily. Glad you're working on improving it, but I am content right now. Thanks!
Amazing app for a writer I usually write my books in open office, and now I can read and edit them on my nook whenever I want. Thank you app people because this is wonderfully easy to use and it never malfunctions. Thanks =) we should be friends. Wanna be friends? No? That's alright, we can be more than friends ;) bow chicka wow wow
Great app I was unable to open a document, i became so frustrated that I was about to delete it because I thought I was corrupted. So I googled odt and found this app. I was able to open the document with no problem. This is a great app.
It does what it says it does I could have sworn I was able to edit before as I don't remember downloading any other OpenOffice app. but they say it was never available... so. It's an alright app. it does exactly what it says it does and not much more. EDIT: Yay! An edit fearure!
Didn't Work For Me Tried to open a spreadsheet in my Google Drive, but although it loaded quickly from 0% to 54% it took several minutes to finish. Tried to edit that same document but the app froze at 82%. Tried several times with the same result. Guess I'll have to wait until LibreOffice is available for Android.
It's Ok could be better. I Was able to open the document format that was giving me trouble but I have a hard time editing the changes don't stick. Then locating the document with the changes is impossible.
Not what I was looking for I wanted to read odt guitar tabs, but it doesn't load the monospace font. Doesn't really work without it..
Thanks I got this app because none of the major commercial office suites for Android seem to appreciate my need for OpenDocument processing. This app gets the job done.
Pretty good, but has flaws It does a fantastic job of reading documents and loading them quickly, but there are a number of annoying flaws when trying to edit the documents. So if you just want the app for reading documents its great, if you want it to edit them its do-able but not great
Just what we needed! Lightweight, integrated, easy to use. Just what we needed to read our odf files on android AND perform simple edits. I was starting to worry that there were no basic odf readers/editors out there for small device android (which seems crazy). Then I found OpenDocument Reader. Thank you!!!
Unreliable! While I am able to read .odt files, the save function automatically changes the file name and on many occasions DOES NOT WORK. Have lost hours of editing; uninstalling this app as of now.
Pretty good. Has some issues. With long documents occasionally just loads a blank screen (even if I leave it to load for ages) and if I turn my phone sideways it often jumps back to the start of the document and loses my place. Otherwise it is good, loads fast and so far works on all of my documents I've asked it to open. Easy to read, good zoom levels, and works in all orientations of the phone.
Solid and efficient Opens medium large files quickly and allows smooth scrolling. Obscure Chinese language characters (radicals) show up fine in spreadsheets.
Doesn't always keep changes! I made a few changes to a document, and hit save. The app told me that the modified file was saved to my SD card. Opened up the new file, some of my changes made it others didn't. I've reproduced the issue several times. Also, all changes are lost if the device rotates.
It works, but comments are just dumped on the screen The whole point of comments in a spreadsheet is to hide lots of detailed information or a long description of a cell inside the comment. This app just dumps the comments on the screen. It would be better if the cells woth comments have a red dot and a click shows the comment full screen or something. Useful app. Thanks for making it.
Edit mode error Edit mode does not save what I edit. In addition it makes its own editing on the file. Please fix.
Bummed While editing a document, my screen rotated. All my edits were gone. It returned back to the original. Not a good way to get something completed!
Life Saver Tried all the bigger apps to open pdf links and no joy, but this app did it. Thank you, because this saved me a lot of frustration
Cannot save odt. It's a great thing to open and edit my .odt files, but the save functionality does not work. The document goes back to it's original form whenever the save button is pressed.
Fine for light use We .odt users are used to not having the greatest support for our preferred file formats, but this app delivers what it promises. No frills or ribbons, but no unpleasant surprises or disappointments. Still waiting on LibreOffice for android but this will get me through till that arrives (IF it ever arrives).
Won't Save Your Changes..Period!! I gave this app 2 stars, as it did allow me to open my document..however, when I was done editing it and saved my changes, it saved the original instead and lost EVERYTHING I had just done!! Not Happy..
Works really well I have this app working in the background to open all opendocument files. This is so good that you forget it is a separate app.
Useful! I use this app almost daily, the ads can sometimes be a bit distracting, but my only complaint is the save feature can be a pain because even if you just change the direction of the device, it erases everything, so I find myself saving after every change. But overall this app is useful and I'm not letting it go any time soon.
Works with writer & calc Yes, you get small ads, but it presents both open office writer & calc well. I don't need it for anything else, but it works well for those. It took me a few seconds to find my around at first, but after that it was a breeze.
Absolute rubbish Downloaded to make some edits to a document, saved after I was done and emailed it to myself only to find it didn't save and emailed me the unedited version. Will be avoiding this app.
Lost two hours of work I've been rewriting the same thing for hours now because 'oops, something went wrong'. Avoid.
Great app. Super. I have used OpenOffice for years. Far outperforms MS Word and without the continual upgrades.
Handy app Only downside is it won't allow editing, just have to wait for Libre office to make an android version I guess
AWFUL! The program said that it saved all of my changes, but when I re-opened it, ALL OF MY WORK WAS GONE!!!
Very good program. Please, added the bookmarks, and font colour. !
"Something bad happened. Couldn't open file" File opened to read. Edited the file I was sent and upon saving the edited version the message above repeatedly showed up. Hesitant about sending the error report due to the sensitivity of the document content. Will give 5 stars when I can successfully save an edited document.
Does what I needed and then some Working on a couple of books and needed means to read and review my work on the go. I can read open office documents clearly but have not tried the edit features as I prefer to do all my writing on the laptop anyway. If I ever mess with the editor I will add to my comment at later time.
Unable to save I sent myself a odt & ods document (& spreadsheet). Opened the document & edited it. When i clicked on save.. it went back to the old version.. & i lost all my changes.
What I Needed I am a home Linux user and use Open Office exclusively. I expected to be able to have an OO tool available for my Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 running Android. This fits the bill so far, still checking it out.
Uhhh is this the app for me? Well please help me...see my teacher asked us to do a newsletter and she has a download link for the template in her website...it didn't work so she sent the link to my gmail...didn't work and it said I couldn't open it because I needed an app? I clicked "find app" and it searched up "pub" so idk....I looked at this app and it seemed to be the one I'm looking for but....I'm not so sure...so can you please help me this is urgent!! If you help me out I'll give you 5 stars!!
Works well with large documents Especially thankfup for a good search tool. Slightly slow load though
Works great. A great app that reads open office files well. Unfotunately a bit of the formatting is off but nothing that makes the file illegible. I also wish they would ban the types of ads designed to look like blinking notifications.
A few bugs, but good If you hop out of it, it'll take you back to the intro document, but otherwise works fine for reading. Don't try and edit. It won't work out.
Tried several other .odt file readers and they could not open these files sent thru gmail, even when I downloaded them individually.. Kept getting message 'you dont have an application to read this file"..It may have been my lack of understanding of HOW to do this, but with OpenDocument Reader, there was no hesitation and I didn't have to read the instructions (LOL) the app just opened the odt file....Fantastic!.... Thank You Mr. Tascchauer....A perfectly good app..... Peter
It's time we got a great replacement Open souce thanks for a great product to replace word. It taks some getting used to but it does everything I need.
Doesn't work for remote files! Keeps saving a new local copy and loses the last change I made.
reliable LibreOffice viewer Very useful, much better than LibreOffice's generic reader. Opens password-protected files without any problems. Well worth buying full version to get rid of ads. Editing is hopeless so far, maybe that feature will improve over time..
ODP rendering still not good For ODT and ODS formats, OpenDocument Reader can open them quite satisfactorily. But for ODP files, it still doesn't display them properly.
Love it Came here because office suite stupid pushy app wanted me to go premium.. Man love it and I'll pay as soon as I can to get rid of annoying commercials.
Good App Works for most uses (viewing, editing, etc.). Had a few annoying "features" like the spreadsheet app going into some kind of help view then upon closing exits the app.
Love it! Since I've been using open office to write a big story (personal project), this app has allowed me to read my saved chapters on the go. I had no trouble opening my files and the simple and clean ui allowed for a smooth read. My only issue is that the edit document option doesnt work. A little irritating when I come across spelling mistakes I wish to fix on the spot. And to those complaining about the app not opening .doc files, maybe try reading the app info. It opens open office specific files.
Has some nagging issues When temporarely switching to another app and coming back, it will show the history revision file, which gets on my nerves. When opening medium or large sized files, you have to go into the menu and select the "Reload without limit" option to sed the complete document; the app should have the smarts to do this on its own or warn the user if there is insufficient memory to do so.
No creepy permissions/but no work Im reading a document, no one needs my identity or my contacts list. This app understands this/edit i took back my 5 stars because it doesn't open .doc files?? Then what does it do? Useless.
Short simple handy very useful I found it very useful to view my official documents in my mobile with the help of this app. It has made my work easiest and I can keep track of my office documents any time. One suggestion please improve the app icon brightness. Thank you for this service.
Marshmallow update I can't edit any document in marshmallow, an update is needed. Update1: Simply it doesn't let me edit any .odt document, I'm not an expert, but I think the app does need to update the permissions for Marshmallow or so.
Good start Displays doc well, but they went on to adding editing before they added rssentials like bookmarks, remembering your place in a document, or not closing what you are reading if you switch to another program then back.
Fail Could not open docx used google instead.
Editing didn't work Could read the documents but the edit tool doesn't function at all.
Odt file cant be opened
All works Does what I expect :) x
Does what I need!
It could have a function to remember the password for the file at the path of the opened file.
Would recommend Easy to use, works well, and is very helpful. Loved it.
Amazing easy to use and convenient to view all types of documents
Barebones but functional
I love the app Loving it
Don't ever use this! At first I thought this app was great-finally a decent way to read and edit my odt files! But then I edited a complete document, which took me almost an hour. After re-reading all the changes, I pressed 'save' and it said 'saved under modified by open office reader'. So I checked that out- and found the old document, with several edited lines, but most of it was just the original version. So an hour of work was basically gone. Thank you, shittiest app ever created!
OpenDocument Reader Absolutely fantastic! I was despairing of being able to read some very important documents on my phone when the excellent EE store in Ramsgate found this for me. Be aware that only part of the document will be shown unless you rapidly click on the message box at the top which instructs you to do this to view the full document. The message is only there for a few seconds. Love this app!
Great possibilities, rough around edges I wanted to edit a spreadsheet with this app, although it doesn't seem to support making new cells. Almost any link (including ones to submit feedback) result in a 404 error. However, the fact that it can view documents with only 2MB of downloaded app data is pretty impressive compared to the other office suites.
Best ODF for Android! Fast, small, all the features you want! Recommended for on the go casual use. To Devs: on my Sony Xperia Z1 when turning screen to go widescreen or vertical, mode changes from edit back to readonly. Also on widescreen when in Edit mode you cannot see worksheet tabs, so I can only edit first tab.
Still use it every day! But... Any progress on those config-file options,Thomas? Since I've bought this, I've wasted *thousands* of keystrokes just getting to the point of using my files! I've got to load every file twice, go to full screen, play with the zoom... and then, if I tilt the phone the wrong way while putting the phone in it's place on my dashboard, I've got to do it all over again. ARGH! But I still love it...
A bit disappointing Doesn't really save documents all that well, which is a bit disappointing. Editing is kind of clunky as well, and more often than not it would not recognise my input at all. Still okay for reading .odt files, and when the editing and saving works properly it is a pleasure to use.
Editing does not work The editor looks like it's working, but as soon as I press the save button the edits all disappear. Still, I appreciate the effort these developers are putting into supporting ODF on Android.
Does not support file! Nexus 7 2013 can't open an email attachment so I down loaded this app in hope it would open now says the same as the stock system I have on my tablet file unsupported. Yet opens perfectly on my cell phone galaxy note 2.
