Firewall WITHOUT ROOT. Host name/domain name filtering, simple interface, fine-grained access control and no suspicious permissions on the firewall app itself.
* TO LTE USERS *
NoRoot Firewall may not work on LTE because it NoRoot Firewall currently doesn't support IPv6. I'm working on the fix.
NoRoot Firewall requires NO ROOT. It protects your personal information from being sent to the Internet. NoRoot firewall notifies you when an app is trying to access the Internet. All you need to do is just press Allow or Deny button.
NoRoot Firewall allows you to create filter rules based on IP address, host name or domain name. You can allow or deny only specific connections of an app.
- No root required as the name NoRoot Firewall says.
- Fine-grained access control based on IP/host name/domain name.
- Simple interface. Easy to use.
- Minimal permissions. No location, No phone number.
This is the perfect solution if you want a firewall for android without root. It gives you a complete protection for your Android. NoRoot Firewall is like Drodwall for no root users.

Grey Shirts part of our Productivity and have average installs from 1000000 to 5000000. Last Update Nov. 30, 2014. Google play rating is 87.3756. Current verison is 3.0.1. Actual size 1.0 MB.
The question is is it really doing anything If it is doing what it's supposed to do it is worth 100 stars I have not been able to tell any difference since I downloaded this application has not affected my galaxy s2 in anyway so if it's doing what it's supposed to I thank you very much
How to get it to work on new LTE phones Go to settings, network settings, other networks, mobile networks, access point names, select the apn listed. If APN protocol is greyed out, copy down all the settings. If not, simply change from IPv6 to IPv4/6. Now for those that can't do that. After you've copied all the settings go back to the list of apns. Hit the plus sign at the top and enter all the settings the exact same except for APN Protocol, where you will select IPv4/IPv6. Hit the dots on the top right and select save. Select your new APN.
Feel like I live in a free country again In a world where every ounce of privacy is being taken and all our rights stripped the amazing team of grey shirts come to the rescue! Ecstatic would be an understatement so much anxiety gone ty my friends God bless you
Best app I've downloaded Firstly, thank you so much for this app! Its a cleaver and well-executed way to get around the rooted device method. Works exactly as advertised, and is well layed-out. Great policy and logging, but the only thing I would ask for is a "reset policies" button to clear the config.
very useful works well. got it to work without being a geek and I like having more control over which apps communicate behind my back! (which recently they all seem to do without informing me to what ends) would be great if android would still tell me which of the allowed traffic consumed how much volume.. but that's really an extra. thanks for this app!
Amazing Thank you for creating this app! It's truly great to reclaim control over your phone and who is talking to behind your back. It does however crash after long periods of use (mines on permanently) is there anyway you can build a feature to auto restart on crash please?
Excellent software well written Allows you to control which apps connect to the network and how . prevent suspect apps from accessing, but that does not stop updates. Configurable. stops excessive adverts in other apps. updates and beta versions are available.
(Too) Perfect Impeccable in operation, free, and no advertisements to top it all. My only gripe is the fact it insists on logging every access, whether it was allowed, or denied. The logs take up disk space, and that is often at a premium on phones without support for external SD cards. Please add an option to disable logging, and I will rate it 5 stars.
Just what I needed! A simple app that creates a virtual VPN used just to reroute all internet traffic from the phone to the firewall app (without actually establishing a VPN with an external server) so then it prompts the user to either allow or deny the app requesting internet access. Also rules can be easily configured to distinguish between access when connected via wifi and access when using mobile data. Best of all it doesn't require root access.
BEST APP IN THE WORLD A very big Thank you to the geniuses who developed this app. You guys are true heros of the free world. We need more developers like you out there to defend our privacy and freedom. Thank you again you deserve a medal. Goodbye to all the sneaky apps that steal our information and destroy our privacy
Regressions... After recent updates, the app started to unexpectedly exit (leaving me without any protection!) Could you revert/downgrade your app? It continues to exit and crash...
best of all but can become better Here is a suggestion If No Root firwall can keep a track of the app we are working on (ie formost application) and if there are no rules or custom rules (something like that) if we allow the app to access internet for that instance once app is minimized internet access to that app is blocked I know i am talking about back ground packet data the thing is if i block a certain app and want it for some time to access internet i have to disable firewall change the rules from settings which is hard to search also No question you are the best but there is a lot of potential in your app and the way it is to go to next level
Flagged: Weird It seems like it is uploading something without us knowing. I have noticed it through my wifi dashboard. Please explain what is happening.
Fantastic Awesome application - lets me identify serial offenders nad devise policies. One of the most useful thing to add, if possible, would be to distinguish between background and foreground data and devise rules accordingly. For example, I may want to stop Facebook from continously connecting wih it servers in the background but to be able to use it when I open the app.
Great App for NON ROOTED devices, but keeps CRASHING!! Since the recent stability update for KITKAT, (dated Tue 7 October 2014 & received about 2 weeks ago on my Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505), NoRoot Firewall crashes quite frequently or internet connection, whether Mobile or Wi-Fi, seems to stop passing through the Firewall and I have to disconnect then restart the VPN connection again. Maybe it's due to one of the 2 recent updates to NoRoot Firewall? Maybe that's just a coincidence, but whatever the cause, something needs fixing! Only 3 Stars until it's fixed!
Really works!! This app is easy to use for dummies like me, yet provides advanced users the control of creating filter rules. For me it's allowed me to block system apps that I don't use from auto-updating themselves and wasting my valuable storage. It also works as an ad-blocker for my free apps and alerts me to covert bad apps (which are promptly uninstalled). THANK YOU SO MUCH for giving me the power to no longer be a victim to advertisers and other internet douches.
Some direction: Was wondering if there is anyplace to find a little help on locking down system apps. Or more info on the pre & post filters. Good app, but I bet you could make it better. Having some issue with apps I dont want connecting, but arent on the list to restrict..
I was doubtful But instead this application convinced me ... it's REALLY GOOD!!! Thank you and good luck to 'Grey Shirts'!!! Anyway I've a suggestion for a little improvement: it would be nice in app detail to have the list of server it connected to and the number of bytes exchanged (useful to understand in some way the applications, removable or limited for browser apps)
Great when it works. When run with openvpn, continually get "service restarted" "cannot establish VPN (app not running)" if ever you start openvpn without first disabling noroot firewall. They leave their service dangling and continually show error messages every minute or so until you uninstall seems like (though maybe some other cause). Api19.
No more frustration The frustration of being interrupted constantly by unsolicited ads which could not be switched off is now gone thank you for freeing us from such a nuisance
Stellar App! 10 STARS!!! The best things that would make this firewall perfect: An "ALLOW ONCE" option for all new connections. Domain name lookups for allowing even more granular control. Ie. To allow " myfavoritewebsite.whatever" while disallowing "adsupthewazzoo.garbage". In other words an ability to allow only what is essential for functional connectivity, while blocking anything nonessential, based on domain names. Content filtering, such as "always ask/always allow/always deny/allow once" options for cookies, scripts etc.
Amazing app but.. App does what it says on the tin, but very unreliable. Always stopping and then unable to reestablish the vpn. When the app crashes all Internet access stops. Please look into it. Sony Xperia Z2
Used to be great. Crashes make it almost unusable, now. Latest update crashes often, especially on wifi. Notes indicate an LTE fix was pending but it didn't come in this latest update. It would be nice to add an option to "approve pending only." Also please let us add blocks of domains the same way one would with a hosts file...that would save a lot of time for us stockers. In summary a great app but the lack of updates is making me consider Mobiwol even though that has no global rules!
Amazing, saves battery This app speed up my devices, and best of all saved my battery life! If YOUR devices seem too busy FOR YOU, try this. You'll be amazed and angry. The biggest Spyware out there are the names you trust the most. Use this to shut down the persistent bloat ware too! Thanks for the great app!!!!!
Elwa Simple to use. Some apps will not work even if I allow it. Has to shut down firewall to work! Over all I do like it.
Well behaved on Galaxy Note 2014 edition I can't testify to its effectiveness since as far as I know I've never been attacked, but it seems to have no bad side effects on my Galaxy Note 2014. There was a spell where it seemed to be causing a problem, but it turned out to be a failing router. I also tried it on my old RAZR Max phone, but the phone's processor was too wimpy to handle it. I deducted one star for that, though. Get it and use it! UPDATE works fine on Samsung S5! Added back the fifth star.
Really useful Stops apps leaking data and saves you money. What is there not to like? Could be properly auto starting, it always asks for permission. Great app, a must have app in my opinion.
This app saved my life Im using a firephone, an unfortunately it was consuming lots of data with no real use. I was against the sword and the wall, or I resell my phone or move from prepaid to afford a data usage plan. After tried the Mayday service (didnt help much) and looking for a way to root the phone(january 2015 and still no rooting for the fire phone) this heavenly praised app appears. Now I can block those data consuming apps even the fire OS ones. I love it
Awesome control You are able to control which apps you wanna use over WiFi, network or both. It works great, displays consistent information and, most important, doesn't require any special permissions.
Handle like a dream Actually helps me have control over my apps.
After last update crashes after a few minutes Seems to not work properly after recent update. Searching on the internet others are experiencing same problem of constant crashes and browsers not working until Noroot restarts. Please fix asap. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but problem still there!
I'm finally free thank you sweet Jesus. I no longer have to yearn about the day of breaking the law and getting caught those days are long dong thanks to this app no more deepweb no more tor no more tor 2web thanks to this life changing app I can break the law with out worry or fear of the NSA having any idea of my wrong doings I just can't thank you enuff I'm feeling a law breaking moment coming in the very near future again thanks a million .Rumple,s,shitskins the3rd
Blocks unwanted internet traffic! You control WIFI & data separately for every single app on your phone. Allow or deny WIFI and/or data as you choose. A MUST HAVE FOR EVERY PHONE!
Saved me from buying a new tablet! I rarely take the time to come out and give a review of an app. My tablet, an ASUS TF201 Transformer Prime (Quad core), has been freezing on me, from doing the simplest of things. I always suspected the freezing was from the chatty nature of the various apps installed on my tablet. The freezing was so bad I ended up performing a system cleanup, wiping out everything on my tablet (thinking to myself that this would help), but since the number of apps remained the same, freezing shortly ensued. After installing this "NoRoot Firewall", I basically only allowed certain apps to communicate. My tablet no longer freezes, and this meant I didn't have to shell out 500 bucks on a new tablet (that would probably suffer the same fate eventually). Awesome product! Google should implement this functionality as part of Android natively.
perfect but... The only way to cast local files to my Chromecast is when I disable NoRoot Firewall otherwise I'm getting error that Google Play Services cannot find network :( and there is no option to whitelist GPServices. My phone is Moto G 5 inch with KitKat 4.4 on board.Casting from apps like Youtube or Netflix works no problem.I hope you can fix it soon :)
Nice but could use improvement This app is very nice and helps keep othet as pos from stealing my cellar data by allowing me to restrict their access to the net to only when I'm on wifi. However I have had also that see to still get around this which is why it doesn't get a perfect score.
Encountered a problem This firewall works perfectly but with the latest version I've encountered a problem with Google Play Store. It seems that if I open Play Store and update an app or download a new app, 'Android OS' process keeps uploading data, whether I'm connected to WiFi or not (bug) and because it occupies the entire bandwidth, I can barely use internet. The solution is to restart firewall app. I hope it can be fixed.
Big brother Fantastic! You will be shattered to see how much the Big G accesses the net and other programs! What info are they mining! See your battery last! Thank you for this marvelous app.
Got My Data Usage Under Control, No Root Needed, & Ad-Free Using this, no app can get connected to internet behind my back. And the best thing is, it doesn't need me to root my phone! Oh, and it IS ad-free. You are the best!!
Very good,But Can Be Better thank you for this good app. but there is a problem. with this solution, i cant use actual vpn service through this firewall. is there any way to solve this problem?
Great since day one. Transparent and it works. Always blocks access until you give pemission (so those questionable apps that wanted permission to record video and take pictures can't, PLUS if you give them NO access they can't even deliver ads! Great for free versions of apps.) Saves data bandwidth because you can set it just to access on WiFi only (stuff like Netflix for instance). Some things will need access to run the first time only, but then you can go to firewall settings and deny access after that.
Almost perfect. Grey Shirts.....Hmmmm.....Nice Name. You guys are good. You put out exactly what the market wants most but doesn't have. Tools that your "company" would rather be designing in house than allow its demand to be met elsewhere. ; ; But that's all I'll say about that. Good luck, I SINCERELY wish you and the whole team success in your long term mission. And keep up the good apps while you are at it!! ;)
New Ideas A mode system would be a nice touch. The user could toggle between various modes that are made up of presets. For instance a social media mode could block social media apps from accessing the internet, thus preventing us from being bombarded with notifications every time we switch on the internet. And when we want that to be lifted we could quickly toggle back to say entertainment mode from productivity. Also change the icon if your app to something sleeker and vector. With material design touch to the GUI.
Very precise, simple and discrete, all you want for a firewall I use the app to detect viruses and rogue apps. It does not degrade perfs, does not need root, and is very flexible. Congrats!
Powerful but uses power This is a great program but chews up battery power. Needs more tweaking. Been using it for years. So many programs want net access that have no need for it.
Blocked suspicious web access Many apps access sites that are suspicious and i checked these sites on pc. They silently download software. Chinese websites etc. Suspicious. I cannot reccomend this any higher. For thise who cannot tell if it is doing anythin. Go to your firewall logs and type the IP on the PC. You will be astonished with some backdoor hacks that r being attempted even with genuine apps on the store
Auto-closing on lollipop 5 star app for my old phone but on my new phone with lollipop it frequently auto-closes, even with the persistent notification. Also seems I have to use internal IP address when accessing my home server at home but external address or DNS when out. DNS should work from home.
Elwa Simple to use. Some apps will not work even if I allow it. Has to shut down firewall to work! The reason is that, those apps do more than going on line. Over all I do like it.
Exactly what I need I'm not able to root my phone but I needed something that could limit what uses 3g, this program is exactly what I needed. It's easy to use and I've had no issues so far. I'm using a Moto G 1st gen on TextNow's $19 plan. (It's also neat seeing what was communicating without your knowledge. )
It is acceptable though not ideal. The app gives a meager amount of control over traffic, however it's settings at the unpaid level are rudimentary and its performance has not qualified it for a purchase from me at this time. The main faults include; an inability to configure allowable forms of traffic for a specific program, or at the least a form of avenue of traffic such as incoming, it also does not alert a user to suspicious traffic, and I have received alerts from other programs that this one allowed through, which involved a trojan.
Samsung Galaxy Mega2 This is the Firewall you want. Doesn't lag your system but does the job right and throughly. Totally FREE with NO annoying ads. A must have if you demand security. This app should be a part of every Android phone or tablet. Thanks authors for the free much needed Firewall and for doing the job right. Works like a champ! 5 stars not enough..
Buggy... Does (mostly) what it says on the tin, some apps (despite being allowed) aren't able to access the internet fully though which causes them not to launch at all. Constantly switching between this and NoRoot Firewall as they each seem to block different apps. It also prevents me connecting my iPad to my phone's mobile network, with no clear way of allowing it.
Excellent firewall Drains battery fast but it's unavoidable as the app needs to constantly run to filter network traffic. Some more options would be nice ie reorder rules. I can only think to delete rules above an entry and re-add all deleted rules when organising the rules.
Thank you! Now I can play my games without it using data for ads I don't even see! It was using upwards of 200mb daily. Highly recommended. Edit : it crashes from time to time having to reset it but it works fine when it's up. Maybe a little too well... blocks my messenger even when it's allowed to go through both types of data. No longer using this program but that's because I'm not playing the game anymore. Keep sending in those error reports this has great potential!
Love it! Love this program. After bricking my last phone I wasn't about to try again. Only thing I would add would be able to toggle logging all access requests.
Pretty good Good control over what accesses the internet, but a has a tendency to block apps that are permitted access. I quite often have to the page, or data sync.
Absolutely love this app. It's a must have. Works perfectly on my Samsung galaxy s5. Does not work on my Samsung tab pro 10.1. UPDATE: Since the latest Verizon Samsung update, Pending Access doesn't work and something keeps disabling No Root Firewall. :( I'm not installing any more forced system updates.
It is a great app. Works as expected. One issue is that sometimes it stops sending messages from Galaxy S6 when firewall was on for a bit. Didn't see any pending access requests. Restarting the firewall or rebooting seems to help. Would be really nice if you could temporary grant or deny the permission when requested. Right now if you say yes or not it would automatically create a rule and keep it permanent unless you change the rule. Please consider adding this option.
Excellent App! This firewall is easy to use and is great for stopping apps from using unnecessary network access, which can be costly over time. Developer Suggestion: Make a setup configuration save or backup option. This will make it easier to trouble shoot program dependency issues. :-)
Wow This seems too good to be true, but it is free and open-source and it works. Creates a pseudo-vpn on your phone rerouting all apps to request access to the internet via the firewall. Simple to use and excellent layout. I'd pay money for this app. Outstanding.
Thanks for the great and clean app, This app need some more modifications and improvement. It will be best if user could search for app in apps tab. Complete details of app should be displayed (such as app ID i.e com.example.xyz) so user can distinguish between real and fake app with the same name. Allow user to export and import rules and settings from/to SD card.
DON'T TRUST THIS APP Used to be my favourite app, but recently it has been using massive amounts of battery life and then caused a 2Gb spike in data usage in one day. Something very very wrong here ...
Should be Android Core-Functionality It's not 100% airtight, but it does show which apps are a little too chatty with the internet. It blocks some ads, which I don't necessarily like, as it (may?) rob freebie developers. But dang, some apps makes so many connections it's downright SCARY. Everyone should use this and dump overly talkative apps just on principle. FEATURE REQUEST: A "reset/restart" button that will stop and restart the firewall, for when things choke.
It does work on LTE Was able to create a new APN and get it to work on an LTE network thanks to a comment left here in the review section. App seems to work great and let's you know when an app or service is trying to connect to the Internet and let's you decide to allow or deny . Im still trying to figure out the custom settings and see how I can set it up to get the most out of its features. Great app so far just wonder if it's still supported by the developers
Hello Grey shirts-Request could you make a selective app widget so we can choose which apps I want to give quick access and deny access.
Superb! Superb! Only problem does not work continuously in android lollipop. Must be because of malware alarm controller.
I got NoRoot Firewall so that I could prevent YouTube, SnapChat and other apps from using mobile data. One problem I ran into was with sending pictures through my texting app. I use "Messenger" instead of the default "Messaging" that came with my phone and after installing NoRoot Firewall I just couldn't get Messenger to send pictures (through MMS), no matter what I "allowed". Only turning off the firewall would allow pictures to be sent. I finally found a way to do it, though. I had to first go back and make "Messaging" the default messaging app (previously I had made "Messenger" the default). Then I reinstalled NoRoot Firewall, sent myself a message (with the "Messaging" app), and on the Pending Access tab I allowed anything having to with "Messaging". Once the firewall was working with "Messaging" I was then able to go back and change the default app to "Messenger" and I was then able to send pictures with it even with the firewall on. So it looks like you first need to set up the firewall using "Messaging" before you can use it with "Messenger" (confused yet?). I'm not positive if you have to uninstall NoRoot first, but that's what I did and it worked.
On Screen Why is your app showing Notifications, on my Lock Screen (or Log-in Screen, when I've turned it off in the Settings)?? That's obviously Why I turned off Notifications, from you cuz I DIDN'T want Any Notifications, from you! I Know I activated your VPN; so Why are you telling me this on the Lock Screen?? WHY would I want to know something like this, when I know I've already done it??? 5★'s if you stop putting Notifications on my Lock Screen...
Loved it, but now.. ..it's just ok. Last version 30-11-2014.... . It also crashes sometimes. You should consider Netguard in stead of this. It's 'alive' and a great replacement for this former favorite. ps: NoRoot slowed the browser down I notice while using Netguard(much snappier).
Works well and gives amazing insight All the apps that want to hit the internet for me, unbelievable. And it's not just adware. Mt net usage has dropped and my battery life increased.
Just what I wanted This app gives me the fine-grained control I want over what ip addresses each and every app and service connects to. Now if I only were knowledgeable about which addresses I don't want connecting to, then I'd be set. But that's my problem. NoRoot Firewall is awesome!
Preserves my data subscription Ever since I installed this app my data runs as slow as possible. A must download for all
It is quite good, BUT...!!! ..its downside is - it doesn't start automatically after restart/boot! Certain apps I don't want to call home will then have pretty good chances to do so. I don't know if it is due to the fact that it's a "no root firewall", but for me it's a major issue you need to work on. Maybe a root version, as an alternative, of this wonderfully designed app would help this issue...
Works great Been using this for months. Wish I could root my phone but since I cant, this is the next best thing to a full fledge firewall. Love the controll it gives me because simply put, if an app doesn't require Internet then there is absolutely no reason it should be calling home or anywhere else for that matter
No root firewall Stops all the apps that want to update themselves or send home you are using them that don't need the net. Apps that change or mod without you knowing. This firewall gives me back control on what/who gets out or in ,and adds privacy.
Works pretty well Just wish the log would be a bit more efficient. For once it seems to have some memory leak causing it to eat more and more ram. Then it should be possible to filter it somehow instead of having a large scrolltext. Also it would be nice if it was first, not last tab.
Best non-root firewall app Undoubtedly the Best free app that exists today. The USP is it does not require rooting. I have been using it for filtering network access on wifi/3g for 2+ years on Nexus 5 & even after multiple android upgrades, it has never crashed or shown unwanted behaviour. Thank you team for the fantastic app & support !!
AMAZING (non-root) FIREWALL APP!! I definitely didn't know you could have a firewall on a non-rooted phone, let alone one that works so amazingly well!! If it crashes, it starts right back up, and has been an incredible resource to save data, monitor network traffic, and decide what you want to allow to connect when you're on the go! I didn't even know it could be done, and now I won't have a phone without it!! ❤❤❤ A+++
Does what it says, but... It chews through data usage. Why does it need to use high volumes of data? One of the reasons I want a firewall (besides security) is to limit data usage from background programs. The volumes of data used by this program (which it doesn't report) makes using this particular program pointless.
By far the best firewall for android an easy to use outbound application with an intuitive interface. First thing I install on a new device. I only wish there where somekind of iptables option so I could use a vpn with it.
Basic firewall. Excellent implementation of a firewall. App works as intended and blocks user defined traffic. The permissions are non invasive too I.e Mobiwol. However unlike mobi the UI could use some work. Although if you are looking for simple you won't find better than this.
Very useful depending on purpose Very useful to identify background communications. May not save battery directly, since apps eat battery "attempting" to connect... in fact it seems battery consumption could potentially be worse by using a firewall app.. its most usefulness comes from simply seeing what hidden communication is taking place & maybe some saving on data plan for those on tight budget. May also save battery by getting rid of communication happy apps.
Great app but... That's an awesome app to control data access. But it lacks a feature to give data access to a specific app for only a "one time" basis. I would like to allow an app to have access to mobile data for that particular session but not allow it to access data always. I mean when I stop the firewall, it should go back to the settings I defined previously. There is no different default setting option and one time grants. I am scribbling in a hurry. Hope it makes sense.
Just a suggestion It would be great if we could also get to know the amount of data each app is accessing. You see, I downloaded an app to check that but it shows that all the data is being accessed by NoRoot Firewall. That's because all the data is being rerouted through your app, I guess. And I don't want to remove this much useful app. So, if you could add that feature, it would great! Thanks!
Beware - doesn't work with Marshmallow Upgraded Galaxy Tab A to Marshmallow as requested and now NoRoot Firewall doesn't work. When ON it denies ALL internet access despite the settings and so it has to be OFF to get internet. Which is fine when don't need internet but pointless when you do - as it is off! Previously worked well with both Kitkat and Lollipop but now needs to be urgently upgraded by the developers.
Great app but keeps turning off automatically I have been using this app for a lot of time now but has noticed something strange recently. The app keeps turning off after some time.. I need to open the app every here and now! Earlier I only used to open it only when I switched on my phone and it stayed there till switching off... But now it keeps turning off at random times.. Please fix this... (Note 4 Android 5.0.1)
It's a simple firewall that works well. Works pretty well. Good for limiting background data usage and making you more aware of what apps are using the internet (even when you are not using them). However, if you are looking for a robust solution, this is probably not for you. I dig it though. It would be nice if there were a "firewall reset" button to make apps have to ask permission again and a single button (or drop down box) of various custom configurations. As it is, I find myself giving and revoking permissions often. Still dig it. ?
Elwa Simple to use. Some apps will not work even if I allow it. Has to shut down firewall to work! The reason is that, those apps do more than going on line. Over all I do like it. If you can add a feature like asking you permission to allow an app to access the net, then I give you 5 stars
Really useful but app usage needed I have been using this for a while now on my Xperia to wrest control from the stock o.s. However you lose sight of the data usage on a per app basis because Android logs it all to noroot. A useful addon would be a tab with the top 10 apps download byte count. If an auto reset of the count could be added on a day of the month too that would be splendid.
Strange This application are useful but how can we be sure that this app is not sending sensitive information over VPN? No guaranty since this app is totally free with no ads!! Does the developer made this app totally free ?? Or he getting benefit from stilling. Our data ,,,how to improve ? Since over VPN can send all types of sensitive data to external server with out permission!!,,I don't know who is the developer and he is not known for other known applications to make us trust,,how to improve?
Almost perfect This is an awesome app, I love it! Only one issue...it blocks incoming and outgoing MMS including group messages on all messenger apps: stock messenger app for phone, Hangouts, Textra. I am on a Samsung Galaxy S4, however friends with the new Galaxy S6 have the same issue. This causes me to not use it anymore. PLEASE fix this issue. Also, if possible add the ability to block Apps from accessing cell service/wifi when running in the background; help save data and battery power.
Wow..Grey Shirts--you're my heroes! For the first time in years, I feel like I have control of my phone again! Can't describe how good that feels but THANK YOU!! Still trying to figure out some things w/blocking & allowing access but that has to do w/my lack of tech knowledge. Love the way this app is set up--actually HELPS me learn more w/the easy toggles & the info provided in the Log. Great app all around!!
Awesome app, but... I can't seem to keep this thing running for more than about 24 hours. It keeps shutting down and turning off the firewall which then leaves my phone and data unprotected. This is an amazing little app that does a good job to help secure outgoing connections from your phone... while it works...
Awesome is all I can say Intuitive interface, using a Vpn to connect to the firewall app is brilliant. aka.. no root necessary. custom adresses are easy to enter for those bothersome ip's. I haven't tried url's yet. I use wall watcher to verify the wifi connection to my router. This app works like a champ. the pending access tab is great. what more could a network engineer ask from a free app. God Bless!
Awesome app Probably the most awesome application designed ever! You could however consider adding few more features. 1 ad blocking could be integrated and be made to apply at global level. 2 concept of redeemable permission where an app could be granted permission for say 15 minutes and then on expiey of time fresh permission needs to be granted . 3. Hotspot can't work if the firwall is on.
Very useful I have used this VPN for about a year and it works great takes a little time to learn how to use it but once you do it was wonderful I just thought I would say I have tried a lot of vpn's. . But out of them all this is a keeper just saying ?ヾ(*´∀｀*)ﾉ
A must have app Does what it says. You can monitor and regulate those extra chatty apps and control the traffic in your device. Love the functionality, permissions balance without root access. No devious behaviour by the app itself as far as I know. Only thing this app needs is to differentiate between foreground and background connections. But 5 stars anyway, for minimal permissions, being simple and efficient, free and ad-free.
Issues with hotspot App works great and as desired with custom rules. Just 1 issue facing is when hotspot is activated it doesn't share net on connecting devices and give notification which hotspot app is trying to access, tried many thing but not working. When stop firewall then net works fine on those devices. Pls fix this, thanks in advance.
I have had this on my previous phones and use to work amazing, but lately if I turn app on all internet access is blocked (yes I have allowed access) no apps can connect. Close noroot firewall down and back online. Please can someone fix this. Thanks oh and on top of this I notice this uses a lot of data, third data hungry app on my phone. I've reason I use this is to prevent apps using data up, which it does but in turn users more data than the apps I restrict!
Very good As a result of installing this application I have emailed a number of app developers to ask why their apps constantly attempt to communicate with Facebook which I do not use. Lots of them also attempt communication with Amazon. All unauthorised use of my data. Claim back your data and personal information….. Install this app!
Improvements 1. Why doesn't it start completely on startup and I have to "agree" and press start EVERY time ? 2. Could you please add a filter in the app list so that you can more easily find the firewall settings of a particular app, because after some time the list is full of lots of app it is hard to find the one.
Works as described This app basically let users to either allow or permit access to certain IP addresses or DNS host names on the Internet. Without knowing which destination IP addresses to make some app to work, it is required to do trial and error. Fun to experiment with when you are network engineer or administrator. Otherwise it may take some effort to appreciate the functionality.
NoRoot Firewall Working out. Runs in background, great. Doesn't conflict with the security VPN, and that is critical. Privacy, even on cellular, is important nowadays. Very good. If you can't figure it out, get a basic phone with a camera. Wondered why you got quietly deleted: having me standing in the playground, allegedly in a tunnel, is not secured anonymity. Once again into the dust bin.
Great app. See what app is doing hidden communications. Still great after using it for the past year... If your are curious to see how often those apps are sending out days then install this. You will then see why your battery life is so bad. No additional permissions required. Works great even for a novice. Ome improvement would be after deleting queued up requests I'd top automatically close they Window. Minor but it would be nice. It is interesting to see how many apps are sending non-encrypted data via port 80.
Solid and strong firewall This security app is easy to use and provides excellent protection. I can see the apps that want access to my phones resources and which one's want Internet access. This is important because any apps that want to high jack your phone needs the Internet to do it or if apps are power hungry and constantly checks for a new version is a constant drain on your battery. Also NOROOT is simple to use unike some other firewalls that require root access. Get this app you will not regret it.
Great, simply Two things I do miss: Profiles, to dis/allow apps on business hours, weekends, sneaky trips, so on. Second to have the rules confirmation in popup dialog over currently opened app, so we don't have to go back and forth between firewall settings and applications used.
Thank you for creating this app! Fantastic! I was wondering if there's a way to block all the apps at once rather than having to click on each app individually to change the permissions? It would be great to offer up the option so that the user can block everything at once, and then only have to click on those apps that he/she wants to allow through the firewall. I rate it 5 stars as is, but wish you would add the functionality I mentioned above... or, is it already there and I'm just missing it? Thanks! EDIT 01/22/2015... Not working with Youtube using Chrome or Samsung Default Browser. Videos won't play unless this app is disabled.
totally necessary especially when we have apps like a certain keybd that requires access to way much more than could ever be necessary for a keybd. and android's millions of apps that sit there phoning home for who knows what reason. I have disabled them one at a time as a test, and phone still works fine...?
Nifty Security Application Awesome , works as intended. Filters apps that should not be asking to connect to the internet. Also blocks applications you want to use offline by stopping any initial data transfer request the app you are using might have (I.E app permissions and what information you allow the app to pull from your phone). 5/5 because not only does it work but its free and there are no ADs.
Excellent Software Impeccable, friendly and easy to use. Now, I can keep a control on activities of other applications which went unnoticed. It has helped me a lot and addressed almost all of my concerns. Feel comfortable while using internet and now I am on a driving seat managing all movements of automated machine. Lovely and enjoying this application.
