mobileGRIB is a GRIB2 viewer for Android. It enables sailors and meteorologists to have detailed weather information always available. This is done by downloading GRIB files of any region of interest. Source for the Gridded Binaries is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Forecast times and variables can be chosen from pressure, wind arrows, temperature, cloud cover, humidity and precipitation for the upcoming 8 days between a resolution of 1° x 1° or, for even more detail, 0.5° x 0.5°. By selecting only what the user needs, this procedure will keep the size of the downloaded GRIB file low, making it especially convenient for low bandwidth regions covered only by Edge or GPRS networks, or simply regions with low cellular coverage.
Downloaded map tiles will be cached for offline use. This is why we highly recommend our users to browse through the desired area and zoom level before going offline, in order to always have the map tiles cached for offshore use.

After some downtime according to NOAA related problems, we managed to get things back to work. GRIB data is up to date again and development has started some months ago with the goal to release version 2.0 as a major release regarding rendering speed, overall performance and stability. The launch for the next release is planned between mid and end of May 2016. Stay tuned and see our upcoming features below.

Lousy App - doesn't work at all Although said to be fully compatible with my HTC Sensation Z710e, it simply doesn't get off first base, with no information coming in at Fetch Data command despite good WiFi connection, etc. Can anyone assist with getting this thing to work?

A Google User

No animation Just got it but i'm really disappointed that it doesn't allow me to make a animation like usgrib. Its terrible to have to go to the menu to see the data step by step. Animation is a simple function that's the essence of grib files analysis and should definitely be part of this software. Hope to see an upgrade soon!

Good app but can the font size be increased Recently switched from Samsung to htc m8. On the htc the font size of the Oscars and the forecast time in the to of the screen is so tiny that it's very hard to make out what it states. This'd made me look for some different app, which is unfortunate because I did like it. Can this perhaps be changed in the next version

Don't go to sea with out this. Having the most up to date information prior to setting sail is with out doubt a great benefit. Comparing the actual conditions at sea against the forecast is a good way of predicting where the winds will be and avoiding being in the wrong place. Even when crossing oceans the long forecast are usually right in showing what's coming but not so good at precisely where and when. Plotting the changes helps understand and predict where and when the weather will be. Would like to see coloured isobars. Excellent.

Room for improvement At first sight, it looks nice. Graphics are good, controls are easy to learn. What is lacking most, is an indicator of the date and time of the data that is shown.

Nicko Brennan

Lacks advanced features This is a good basic viewer however it lacks more advanced features such as animation, meteograms (graphs) and support for weather models other than GFS that better apps like PocketGrib have.

Allen Goldstein

Pocketgrib is better I am a sailor and have been using the paid version of mobilegrib for a year or so now. I just found Pocketgrib which animates, shows multiple layers at once, and can show data for any local as graphs or tables. Pocketgrib is well worth the $6. I have been hoping for an update to mobilegrib that gives me animations and it has not come.

Strange occurence Downloads the grib file but will not display any of the information. I see there is another recent comment saying the same. Is anyone listening and better yet is anyone going to fix?

good app, needs tweaking App is stable and works reasonably well, but could use some tweaks. For example, it would be nice to have the wind barbs color coded, the forecast period shown in local time with the day of the week (Mon, Tues, etc.), and some on-screen buttons for changing between forecast periods (now you have to use the volume keys). In terms of bigger added features, it sure would be nice to have gulf stream current forecasts. Being able to display multiple layers at once would also be very nice (so i could see wind and rain together, for example).

Sten Engelstoft

Does what it should but 'clumsy' There are much better aps out trere. This one has not been updated for a long time and developer does not react to 'constructive' mails with suggestions. Try SailGrib

Displays gribs but very basic A good start but needs improving. Would like to be able to scroll through times without having to go into the menu everytime and would like to be able to display wind and pressure at the same time.

Christopher Robb

Grib files not available any more The system is stuck on 2nd September. They don't answer emails informing them of a problem. This product is now effectively dead, which is a shame as it was good

Doesn't work On tmo galaxy sii. Downloads wrong coords I think, shows nothing. Worked on my old phone.

Norman Norsworthy

This does not work on a Sony experia tablet. Data is downloaded but it is not displayed. Very disappointing.

A Google User

Modified Forecast maps OK, but cloud cover is not accurate to actual weather or PC grib. Over three years down the line and still no promised update, even though description says constantly updated. Animation would be good addition but seems unlikely. Think this one's been forgotten!

James Redding

No longer downloads gribs 2015 In early 2015, galaxy s3 is stuck on jan 8, 2015. Reinstalled: no longer works on any device: removed.

Does what it says TF101 Running great on my Asus tablet

A Google User

Grib files Grib filed stopped working so had to unistall and repay....any explanation

1.3 is good. Nice useful lightweight app. Time sequence would be useful or some control to cycle through the time slices from the main screen.

A Google User

When all the upcomings are implamented it will be a great app. Another surgestion is to be able to view wind and pressure at the same time.

A Google User

V1.2 makes this a 5 star app

A Google User

Almost there Works well, but lacks some features. Shame there is no wind map, this is an important function for real use. Also being able to adjust the time to local would be helpful. Listed as a future feature but seems to have slowed in development (last update Sept 2011).

A Google User

Great app Asus eee . Works as it should, great info. Like other feedback would like a simpler way to scroll fwd in time, especially with the wind arrows.

Evgeny Zolotukhin

Last date is 14.01.2015! !!!!! Last date is 14.01.2015! !!!!!!

John Lancaster-Smith

Download still providing Jan 2015 weather in May! No longer appears to work which is a great shame as it was great for the last 2+ years

Richard Owen

Not being maintained: Used to work really well but now just downloads grib files for 14.01.2015. Samsung mini GT -i8190N phone

juergen mais

works on Galaxy SII, does not work on Tablet SM-P905. In any case takes ages to build up the screens, even with excellent wifi connection. Totally disappointing. It"s not about the money, that is peanuts BUT this app has wasted some of my precious time.

ely arp

App is not working App is not working shows only data from Jan 15 2015. Same problem on different units and in reported in forums. Please could you fix issue

Bruce Blauch

Stuck in the past Works like lite version. Does not give curren t data. What a failure compared to older versions. What a was of my time.

Slawomir Rudnicki

Admin, do something The App worked well, but now shows permanently weather valid only for 14 JANUARY 2015

Domen Kastner

Hey! I really loved this app but for some time now don't get fresh data. Only from day 14.01.2015 !!! Can we expect any progress with the app or is a dead project?

Used to be good - now useless I bought this app a while back. I used it regularly and it was good. But some time ago it ceased to work. It seems not to be supported any longer. So avoid.

Charles M Joint

Useless - does not download Used to be excellent but has stopped working. Only downloads 14 Jan 15. And I paid for it! !

Hasn't been updated since 2011 Was cool in the beginning, but never updated since then

Malcolm Smith

No longer supported Simply doesn't work any more as the data isn't updated which makes this app useless.

Bill Rosemurgy

THEY'RE BACK! MobileGRIB is back! This is hands down the simplest most compact GRIB viewing app out there. It's not flashy but it does the job well. DEVELOPERS, DON'T ADD FLASHY STUFF. I love it because it's small and works.

Domen Kastner

Great It's back! Hope to see more features :)

Neal Kelly

Sucks I payed all that money and it doesn't even get the day you want, and I read the facts about the app,and it said nothing about that, (very disappointed).

David Seager

Unusable The map data no longer works and there is no sign of an update to fix it.
