The Iridium communication satellites have a peculiar shape with three polished door-sized antennas, 120° apart and at 40° angles with the main bus.

Occasionally, an antenna reflects sunlight directly down at Earth, creating a predictable and quickly moving illuminated spot on the surface below of about 10 km diameter. To an observer this looks like a bright flash, or flare in the sky, with a duration of a few seconds.

This app displays in real-time where is each Iridium satellite, predicts when these flares will occur from the observer's position and allows from the 3D locator, locate the exact point in the night sky.

Gets the data needed from android device (accelerometer, compass, location) and from the following urls:
www.celestrak.com and www.heavens-above.com

Note4/Tablet Works great on my Note 4, but will not show the path of or the iridium location when trying to view.

Peter O'Toole

Map view issue The map view doesn't work! Only for this issue I'd give 5 star.

Ryan VanMiddlesworth

Works perfectly for predicting flares UI is a little rough, but the app itself works perfectly for predicting flares. The alarm and augmented reality viewer are excellent features.

Shakeel Ahmed Birmani

Amazing app I have managed to amaze and impressed all the village people by correctly predicting the exact timing and location of a bright light flesh (ie an 8 magnitude flare). ;) I'm loving it

James Vinar

Must know what's up. This app is a tool to help you see an iridium flare. You need to know what's up to sort that out innit

Vincent H

Cool, useful... but how about some explanation of the different screens and the numbers. Then I may donate.

mark johnson

Does what is says on the box Finds the iridium and points out the flash point accuratley

Peter McCracken

Something is not quite right Shows satellite below horizon??? IS flare time local or UTC? Do I need to enter any location information?

Mike Haley

Great app for viewing iridium flares. Would like the start screen to default to upcoming flares rather than the map view. Also if you could add countdown pips/beeps just befpre the flare would bump my rating to 5 stars.

Tony Gibb

Too simple I downloaded and cannot choose the satellite to follow. I guess it is only giving me the one required based on my current location.

Steven CHAN

Good It runs well and the data fetched is accurate. The only thing that is a bit annoying is that the app runs only in Landscape mode. I wish I could use it Portrait as well.

Juztin J

Good Useful, with simple and well-designed interface.

RUSSELL RIDGEWAY

Uninstalled This app is always running, didn't look like a way to keep it from starting, although I only looked 20 seconds. Could've missed it, but it sucks anyway. Uninstalled, and 1 star because it blows and the audacity of its imagined self importance

Alexandre Romeu

nice. congrats! =) very easy to track iridium flares with this app

Kevin McFadden

Best iridium app by far Wish it would give sightings for flares during daylight as well.

Mark Savage

I wish this lived up to the promise I really want this app to be great, but it misses lots of visible flares in the uk. The sky map to show you where to look is fantastic, but it's not much use if the app doesn't know when the satellites are overhead. Unfortunately, Iss Detector and Predisat are so much better.

Australian fix Now working great in the land downunder, fast and accurate. Bonzer, mate!

Super lightweight App does exactly what it is supposed to do. You look up "next flare" and it shows you the next 4 or 5. Tap the info and it shows you a map of where in the sky to look, using your phone's accelerometer and GPS. To the person complaining that it only track one satellite, no. It only shows the current path of one satellite at a time on the map. But when you look up next flare, it isn't satellite specific.

Marc Berube

Alarm still ring when not selected Last night again, it reminded me of a flare in the middle of the night, waking both my wife and I. It's not the first time this happens, and I make sure I kill the app before going to bed. This time I forgot again. I had to uninstall it. Disappointed :(

Ilja Orlov

Sgs2 Good app, but selecting satellites is rather inconvenient. Also would need the option of seeing all satellites on the map

Charlie Ross

Best iridium app... When it works. Love the app. Of all the iridium flare apps, this one is the easiest to use to find where to look in the sky. Great UI etc. But recently it seems to find no flares. When it is working, It is great. The other iridium apps seem to found them okay... So I know they are happening... But this app shows none.

Just installed this one and now it wants to force close everytime. Is there a good and reliable Iridium app anywhere?

Dmytro Kiktenko

Best, but much to work on Select showing irridium on map from forecast not only manually. Multiple irridium view on map. (From forecast list)

Note4/Tablet Works great on my Note 4, but will not show the path of or the iridium location when trying to view while using my Tablet.

Suzanne Biancaniello

Pretty much sucked (For me anyway) I have a Galaxy S6 Active. I was SO excited for this app and it just didn't work: The compass was way off, and nothing seemed like the description. Great idea tho!

Richard Burden

Runs all the time I can't endorse this app. It runs in the background and I can't stop it starting when I restart my phone

Raul Flores

Bummer "Getting coming Iridium flares ... Error getting flares" that's all I get.

Trev Radford

Cant find preference menu. Doesn't fit screen maybe?

Ruwan Wijekoon

Best app to view Iridium flares Works great on my Huawei Ascend Mate 7. Shows 99% accurate position of the Iridium flare. Trust me this is the best app I have come across so far when it comes to watching Iridium flares.

sam treloar

Australian fix Now working great in the land downunder, fast and accurate. Bonzer, mate!

Daniel Earle

Why is running without the app being started? Uninstalled.

Craig S.

Amazing app! The guidance feature is super helpful, especially if you don't have horizon measuring tools. As others have mentioned, the UI shakes a bit, and stabilizing would help, but AWESOME app! :)

madan kothari

I liked it but... Where does it show the time of flare?
