* Can store current location as a waypoint, and can store track logs
* Waypoints and track logs can be imported from and exported to Google Earth KML and GPX files
* Allows manual entry of waypoint coordinates in UTM, MGRS or lat/lon
* Custom waypoint symbols
* Can guide you to a waypoint with the "Goto" screen, with optional audible proximity alert
* Has magnetic compass page (devices with mag sensors only)

* Shows satellite locations and signal strengths graphically
* Can display simple 6, 8 or 10 digit grid refs, or MGRS grid ref.
* Waypoint-to-waypoint distance and direction
* Optional timer to record walk duration and compute average speed
* Has online help pages

Good software I have the paid version installed on S4mini. It works perfectly and as described. I wanted a simple app that did not want permission to access everything on my phone. It tells me how far I've walked and gives a nice vertical profile of the walk. Wish it had a built in timer. That would allow the software to produce average speed and stopped times. The software has "Exit GPS" button. The user then knows that the software is not running in the background consuming battery and other resources. I recommend the app without reservation.

joe quig

Not happy. I did 120 kilometres on my snow mobile today. The app said I did 16. Also lost its fix on satellite's several times. Not impressed. Would like my money back!!

Rich Lanham

Awesome I'm not sure what else I could need in a GPS and I have only had it a short time, but very time I use this it supprises me with its simplicity and features. Fantastic work. Well done and thanks. Cheers Rich :)

James Howsden

Bring back travel distance in feet Before I let the app upgrade distance traveled was in feet and miles now it is in miles and tenths of miles. The only reason I installed the app was because it gave distance traveled in feet. The app is no longer of use to me. I don't understand why you would change that. Accuracy was great when used with a WAAS enabled GPS.

Sandy Beaman

Locks in satellite fix fast. Works on the plane. Speed and altitude matched seat back readout. If you preload Google map you can see exactly where you are. Works great in the woods.

David Simolo

Very capable app As the name implies it's very handy

Brian Vincent

Lots of good features

Stewart Geard

Problems I keep loosing satalites and seem to have to uninstall and reinstall to make it work again

Richard Hartwig

Mind reader Just when I think it would be nice gets updated and its there

Brett Barr

Happy customer Had to map out 8 miles of trails on my property. Breadcrumb feature is awesome.

Richard Douglas

Exceptionally accurate Very good app

Frank Ogden

Full feature GPS I have been involved with outdoor pursuits such as paragliding, climbing and walking for over ten years during which I have used pocket GPS instruments regularly. This app offers full equivalence without compromise. It gets better with every new release. Superb!

Geoff Benn

Excellent app Simple works well. No concerns

Dianne Hicks

Very handy, great for navigation in Australia and beyond. Has not missed a beat.

Issam Riziq

I love the accuracy Nice easy cheap accurate.. love u staff

A Google User

The best for outdoor activities I've been using this app for almost 2 years now, and it's perfect. No need to look at any other apps for backcountry activities. Altimeter and location coordinates are always accurate, and it doesn't need cell signal to function. Paid version is easily worth it.

Richard Sands

Excellent application Well laid out. Can't fault it. Works equally well on HTC VELOCITY and Samsung 7" tablet. Very easy to use. Worth every cent.

Catalin Ardelean

Don't believe the hype It doesn't do anything useful besides bread crumbles - you can't save a track you've been hiking on, you can't browse for certain locations such as lakes, falls, or any other POIs. So why waste money on it? Because it's overrated and comments are promising.

Kamiar farhadi

geologist idea Hey guys . I'm geologist and whenever I go to field I use from this usefull application. Finally with that terrible boycott in our country ( Iran ) I can buy this application. TNX HANDY GPS

William Allen

This is an excellent GPS APP This app is easy to use and is very accurate. waypoints can be sorted by distance and alphabetically. For me this is very important.

John Hodgson

Faulty on my Note 3 but persisting Lovely clean app. Keen on functionality. For some reason on my samsung Note 3, Google Map mode freezes between 90 & 180 sec approx while panning and zooming away from current location, and app closes. Support response has been excellent. Without access to note 3, is hard for developer to suss. Putting this here so if others have same issue please email developer/support and maybe can fix. Or a OS update might also do it:-) Meantime I will keep working with it and see what happens.

Boris Bilc

Great app for geodetic surveyors and alike Great app for anyone with the need for track and waypoint recoding in gpx or kml format. One of the biggest advantage of this app is that it supports custom user defined coordinate system. A must have if you are a geodetic surveyor.

Garry Collett

Handy...sure is! Have tested this in the field (using map coords) with a Nexus 7 and HTC One XL and both results were +/-2m. Many options available...for me, if you don't have a dedicated GPS, this will definately get you out of trouble...make sure you confirm your datum!

Aaron Porebski

Excellent Nav app. The storing of breadcrumbs and waypoints is excellent!

Renee Breeze

Excellent and packed full of features Something that would greatly improve this app in my eyes would be to have continuity when the app is running in the background. For example, when recording a track, if I switch applications and then switch back, the app stops recording in the meanwhile, meaning it always has to be running on top. I'd like to see this improved :)

Karl Mierzejewski

A really good GPS recording app I used Handy GPS for saving locations in a forestry project and found it perfectly suited for the task. The breadcrumb trail recording is useful and can be switched off. As most smart phones don’t have WAAS on their GPS, the averaging feature is a great addition which results in greater accuracy in location recording. The app is easy to use, but it’s worth exploring all the options before actual use, as there is much to be discovered. For offline use, Handy GPS does have limited map caching if you scan an area at different zoom levels when connected. Note that this is not a claimed feature. The developer was very helpful and quick to respond when I had questions and suggestions

Rodrigo Cunha

Made by a hiker, for hikers! This is THE app you want if you're a hiker. The author seems to be a hiker himself, and really understands the needs of hiking. A no frills app, low in memory usage, does exactly what's needed, it's cheap. Go for it!

Stephan Van Heerden

Great tool Excellent tool for all outdoor use. Fact it is free is amazing.

Neville Harrison

Excellent tool. Having grid refs is a great advantage over other gps apps.

Simon Wallis

At last! Tried many trackers... This is THE ONE! Dont know why it was so hard to find. Quick boot up. Accurate. Brilliant control of waypoints and breadcrumb trail. Reliable so far. Exports to google earth & not too "heavy" for my little HTC

Aleksandar Arsovski

The best app for using GPS It turns your phone in to a handy GPS... Thanks a lot..

Rob Szumutku

PRETTY GOOD I bought this upgrade to the full version and this does seem to be a pretty good app. So far, developer has kept it updated. Galaxy S3.

A Google User

Great little app Tested out on a circumnavigation of Cradle Mt Tasmania last weekend out of mobile range and it worked well. Great to be able to see waypoints on Google maps once back in network range. Really liked the odometer feature too.

A Google User

Perfect simple GPS tool Keep up the good work.

A Google User

Problem fixed; Great app now Prompt response from developer has fixed my prob with Google map and this is back to being a 5*+ app.

A Google User

gps app. excellent app. for my work. thank.

A Google User

I like the simple map view Very Good Tracking App , it works with and without google maps.

Graeme Robinson

Corrupted google maps and had to uninstall. Rubbish

bill Harmer

Better than a handheld. What a great app. Works as well as my Garmin handheld, probably better as the google maps are always up to date. As a simple gps its brilliant, easy to navigate around an unfamiliar town especially. Only downside is battery usage really, but thats the phone not the app.

Ian Davidson

Highly recommended Does exactly what it says - and exactly what I was looking for! Straightforward, clean and easy to understand interface. A small price to pay for a fine app!

Michael Shaw

This app is really cool and the developers support is also very good. Thanks mate!

Ian Armitage

Very good indeed A great application, reliable and effective. One small suggestion is to make the icon colourful and to put some colour into the main page. The grey figure of a walker is rather drab, don't you think.

Richard Sands

Excellent application Well laid out. Can't fault it. Works equally well on HTC VELOCITY, now also Note 3 and Samsung 7" tablet. Very easy to use. Worth every cent. Developer very responsive. Keep up good work.

John Bulpitt

John Great software and getting better. One thing I would like is the option to, when the app is minimised disable GPS receiver or not. Thanks Dev.

Angus Aardvark

Wonderful app. Whenever I want to know where I am or where I have been or locate a known point it just works. Love it. Great range of coord options. Runs all day on my Moto G 1st gen.

Ben Divver

Really pleased with this app! I have a Motorola Droid Turbo and it runs fine. The interface is straight forward and the software works as advertised. I'm glad I bought it!

Rodger Wiese

My original breadcrumb android GPS tracking app, "My Track" is being sunset and I have replaced it with "Handy GPS" which I am very happy with once I figured out what ICONS do what when I'm hiking in the wilderness or a city that I know nothing about.... I Don't need it that much but when I am hiking in a strange trail or where markings aren't that good I heavily rely on this app to keep me from getting lost along with my paper maps and compass for when GPS does not work for me on my phone.... As always having waypoints are very important which it does well. The additional benefits of the fee (cost) version is well worth the money so I have invested in it to get more log tracking... Have yet to find anything real important that this map does not provide and I can export the trail to another device if needed...

Dave Farquar

Very clever app. I'm still learning. From onset looks amazing. Might save spending $400 on a hand held gps. I'm tech challenged so wrote creator. He the Google Maps page in the app, zoom to the extents of the walking area you're interested in and then click the menu button at the top right and choose "Manage offline maps". Enter a name for the area in the empty field and then press "Download map tiles". By default this uses the Open Street Maps Cycle map tile server. There are more maps options I can't list

George Heath

Better than a small GPS unit in my case. This is really a useful app . So I bought it. I used it for GPS pipelines on a daily basis. Flawless. Best of All at least in my case, has a simple map track yourself without download of any map loaded on a ZTE MAX2 Android 5.1. Transfer GPX files to xmaps on PC. Now what would be really cool is a small base map instead of grey screen. But that might complicate a good app? Thx for your efforts!!

John Bulpitt

John Great software and getting better. One thing I would like is the option to, when the app is minimised disable GPS receiver or not. Thanks Dev.

John Healy

Having used a number of expensive GPS devices in the past to navigate safely in the Australian and NZ bush, with hideously complicated processes, tiny screens, trouble seeing in strong light etc, the Handy GPS app is the best thing I have seen. I have now trialled it in the Western Australian goldfields and found it accurate, ridiculously easy to use, and I feel safe putting my trust in it. Superb and incredibly good value

james payton

Liked this app Easy to use

Frank Brown

Excellent This is an excellent app for playing in the brush. The only problem I see is, there are too many settings for a basic or beginning user. I get confused trying to find stuff inside this app. Still love it though.

A Google User

Real Handy Gps I am a field worker and find this app to be real handy as far as the name says. Get a paid version and you unlock all the features. Import the waypoints and tracks to Google map and you are done. Real Handy app Frank

David Horn

What a fantastic app - everyone who goes bushwalking, cycling, canoeing or rambling in any country should use this! Of all the many apps I have downloaded to my phone, this one stands head and shoulders above all the rest in terms of great user interface, functionality and usefulness. It has clearly been written by an outdoors-person who knows his geodesy inside out. Awesome app.

Aubrey Offer

This is good... The reason for the low rating could be the user... but i got this for hiking... not in town, but in the Drakensberg... the problem is that their isn't any data signal which is needed to download Google maps. As such the product cannot be used. It would be good to be able to download an area so that the maps can appear. This would require space, but we are talking maybe a 30 square km area which is not much ... something to consider. Maybe a GPS coordinate centre and a radius around that ? Just a thought.

listowel atiemo

Incredible App It simply get the job done! Please work on polygon area measurements

Nrseife S

Great app, one request I own a Sony SW3, soon an LG Urbane lte smartwatch that both have gps built into the watch. Is it possible to add a hiking mode where the gps is turned on and off at user defined intervals similar to what the garmin watches do to maximize battery life? When I hike I do not need gps data every second. Every 5min or so would be plenty and your app should the interpolate to estimate hiking distance etc. Thanks!

Edgar Zalite

Great app, good features 2 requests: need permanent Waypoints. They disappear with each new session, and it would be good if things like "HOME" always carried over. Also, more features on the nav screen would help. Like TTM and VMG.

Ian Armitage

Excellent! A great application - reliable, effective and practical. Thanks for amending the icon colouring; much appreciated. A useful additional feature would be a handy memo/note pad into which GPS coords can be saved.

hedge mcnorry

Replaces my Garmin Great gps app for importing/exporting gpx files. Does everything my Garmin Foretrex does plus more. Although it would be great if you could select a saved track to follow.

Bernard Boateng

Excellent You can't go wrong with this app.

Steven Glass

This app rocks! Best investment of $2.50 I've made in any app. Super capable and robust, constantly updated and improved. If you need a GPS app, please buy this one! And watch the instructional videos to see all the features you never knew were already in there!

John Bulpitt

John Great software and getting better. One thing I would like is the option to, when the app is minimised disable GPS receiver or not. Thanks Dev.

Jim Murrah

Use this app for mountain/Trail bike riding as well as canoeing. Very accurate and reliable.

Andrew Hadson

GPS usage is real We should talk, its a great application for people in the bush

Ramon Sanchez

Handy GPS It good simple and more accurate than others.

Kyle Goodwin

Pretty good I've used this on a few field ex's, it works really well! My only questions of concern are: what are the digits before the bold digits on the MGRS display? Also what is the simple map exactly? It comes up blank for me...

Premjith Mp

This now not picking the location, when we r moving. Getting hang...

Derek Morrison

Burn location crashes app A potentially very useful app. But, while the geotagging photos config appears to work fine enabling 'burn location into photos' crashes the app for me. Pity, that is a very desirable function in this type of tool.

Brian Click

KMZ import would be a nice addition App has a lot of good features, but it can't import individual Google Earth waypoints saved as KMZ (they need to be part of a KML). Also the quick start guide says Import is in the Menu, and it is not. Minor issues, app is very useful.

Virgilio Brycon

Best app for biological research. Works perfectly without network signal. I use it to keep the location of research equipment and study spots in the field. Data exporting is straightforward. This is both a professional tool and a leisure gadget.

Shaun Allan

Recommended for ecologists Downloaded this to identify individual trees in woodland, hasn't let me down yet. For three pound the most useful piece of equipment I've bought this year.

Srikar Sree

I loved it But how can i get my waypoints into laptop how to create tracks in laptop maps because i need to printout my waypoints and area????

Anthony Boswell

Best smartphone GPS app!!! I detested smartphone GPS apps. My Marines would always try to use their smartphones in lieu of doing an azimuth resection with a compass and would be off by more than 100 meters consistently. When I moved to Oregon recently, I needed a GPS to confirm waypoints on a land nav course I built to teach my wife. I figured what the hell and got the paid version. It does not disappoint! It does MGRS, UTM, & Lat/Long. It runs perfect in Airplane mode with GPS on to save battery. Matched accuracy with a Foretrex 401

Michael Clements

OSGB on your wrist The only app that can use the INTERNAL GPS on an Android Wear smartwatch to give an OSGB grid. Essentially turns your watch in to a wearable GPS. In addition a great phone app as well.

Paul Cook

Very handy GPS app! Great app and developer is very helpful. Always updated and bringing on new features and improvements.

Mark Greggs

I don't like the access to read my social media!! Wtf

Frank Brown

Excellent This is an excellent app for playing in the brush.

Susan Pal

Excellent app. This is an excellent app! Dev, is there a way we can create and/or edit a route with existing waypoints? I saved a few waypoints the other day but could not find a way to manually link them in a specific sequence. If this is not currently feasible, do you plan to add that feature in the near future? As mentioned above, I really like this app and if I could create routes, it would completely replace other apps I have. Thanks for a great app, dev! Update 11/28: Thank you for the quick reply, dev.

Daniel Morgan

Good app for making waypoints I primarily use the Google Maps method of creating waypoints because GPS alone is often off by a few feet or more. I'd like to have the ability to select a waypoint and edit it in the Google maps view.
