Explore the Northern Territory's unique and diverse wildlife at home or in the great outdoors with the Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory's Field Guide app.
The app combines detailed animal descriptions with stunning imagery and sounds to provide a valuable reference that can be used in urban, bush and coastal environments. It holds descriptions of nearly 600 species, from animals found in tropical rivers and reefs, the outback desert, and your backyard; covering colourful birds, iconic fish and mammals, crocodiles and dangerous snakes, through to tiny termites. We’ve put in a lot of species, but it’s still a fraction of the complete fauna of the Northern Territory. Our scientists will continue to add additional species and refine descriptions over time.

If you have trouble either downloading the app or with the app crashing, please refer to our app support page.(http://museumvictoria.com.au/discoverycentre/museum-victoria-apps/mv-field-guide-to-victoria-app/support/)

? This is amazing, I love it. I'm yet to find the sounds of animals in there but otherwise very impressed. Very user friendly. Well done.

Well overdue! I am elated that we finally have a field guide app for the NT. After giving this a quick test run, I think it would be fantastic for visitors, but it would need to be a bit more comprehensive for locals wanting to distinguish between similar species. I was excited to see that animal calls were included in the app, but also disappointed that some relatively common species only had one photo in the guide, and their calls were not included. Overall, a fantastic effort and very user friendly first app!

It's a start. It's be nice if we could submit our GPS photos of critters to expand the database.

Very good guide Amazing guide to quickly identity the various wildlife in the NT. This app has helped me to identify a number of birds and snakes.
