Interacting with Medicare is quicker and easier with the Australian Government’s Express Plus Medicare mobile app. Use the app to view your Medicare claim history, update your contact and bank account details, submit Medicare claims and much more.

You need to be registered for a Medicare online account and have a MyGov account to use Express Plus Medicare. You can use your existing MyGov username and password to set up your four-digit PIN for first time access.

Express Plus Medicare is available on supported Android 2.3.3 or above devices.

Services available via Express Plus Medicare:

•request a replacement or duplicate Medicare card
•view and update your address, phone and email details
•view and update your bank account details
•view your Medicare card details
•view your Child Immunisation History Statement
•view your Medicare Safety Net information
•view and store statements in the Secure Vault
•find your nearest Medicare service centre
•lodge a Medicare claim.

Claiming at your doctor’s practice is the most convenient way to claim your Medicare benefit. Many doctors now provide this service.

If you are unable to claim when you visit your doctor, you can claim using the Express Plus Medicare mobile app. All claims submitted via the app will require you to capture and upload a receipt to support the claim.

By using Express Plus Medicare, you acknowledge the legal obligations you must comply with when completing transactions. These obligations are detailed in the declarations agreed to when using specific functionality within Express Plus Medicare.

Totally useless Latest update seems to have fixed problems described below - for now! The worst app on the play store. Instantly crashes my Note 4 whenever I try to use any of the functions. Freezes the phone up and i have to force stop the app or restart the phone. Has been this way since day 1. Don't the developers ever test the thing and see it's impossible to use? Judging by all the other adverse comments it should be pulled from the play store ASAP. Latest update fixed nothing.

Still Terrible After Update When making a claim I cant even select my own name. To date Ive made zero claims. Should have made a native app, jquery mobile is terrible. (Update 4-May-15) Still same issue as previously mentioned on both Kitkat & Lollipop. Issue is present on both my Samsung Note 4 & Samsung Tab S. Both were factory reset too. This app is utterly useless.

4/5 This app was really reliable but recently the final part after agreeing with terms and conditions hasn't loaded saying it is temporary disconnected. I've had to go into a medicare office to lodge it making the repayment period longer. Please fix!!

Medicare need to fix this app, or make it a web based app I started using the app soon after it came out to claim for my sons therapy sessions. The app was so poorly designed, that it was telling me I couldn't claim with the item number I was using. So I defaulted to using a different 109... item number which worked. Big mistake. Over a year later, I need to claim for something different using the same item number, but am unable to because I used up all of the sessions under the 109.. item numbers. I contacted Patient Claim Adjustments to correct the errors, but now have to wait (going on months now), before I can re-claim for those expensive sessions. Plus in the meantime, we wait before we start any new sessions. I now revisit using the original item number, and the app now completely skips that section going to the submission page. Obviously a design flaw corrected, which has now cost me time, money and my sons well-being. Contacting Medicare over the phone and in person, haven't been much help, brushing the problem aside as if its unimportant. I'm deeply disappointed in Medicare and how they released an obviously flawed app. On top of this, the app does not work with my newest phone, the Sony Z3, not allowing connection to submit .

Worked only once Used once successfully couple of months ago. Now have been trying for a week getting error unable to establish stable connection. My connection is fine as all other apps including banking work. Make this a web based app so we can upload the claim easily and fix the connection problems at your end.

Terrible app Why is this app so bad ? When I open it on my tablet, it shows a huge image of my Medicare card. When I close the image, it just comes straight back up again so I can't even get to the menu screen to be able to do anything. On my Samsung S4 phone, at least I get to see the menu screen, but as soon as I click on anything, the app crashes immediately. The app is a good idea, but it doesn't work for me at all.

It MIGHT work... Hey, I think I may have gotten this App to work a couple of days ago (not sure until I check bank transactions). After trying innumerable times on Acer A500 tablet and eventually giving up (...yadda yadda, black screen of death, "currently experiencing problems", etc), I then tried Samsung S4 smartphone (needed a different PIN to login, why, when I have existing account?). After perhaps another 6-7 times, eventually getting a little further each time, and waiting sooooo long for each step to go on to next, I think the claim was finally submitted. It took perhaps an hour overall on the smart phone. The moral of the story....? Using a smart phone, having a spare couple hours and never giving up, it MIGHT just work!!!

Serving the purpose well New version works well and I'm able to claim. For next version I would like to see a list for "favourite providers" so I could select previously used provider number from list instead of typing it every time. Also seems that app does not allow PIN to start with 0. This reduces potential PIN pool by approx 10%.

Awful UPDATE - Whilst it appears there have been improvements don't be fooled! This app is still a shiny piece of useless code that seems to repeatedly fail to meet even a basic set of requirements. As stated previously, it would just be SO wonderful if this app worked. It is a great idea.........but it just doesn't work!

Amateurish, Frequent crashes Not able to complete claims on multiple occasions after multiple attempts. In serious need of some professional app developer input. Long way to go. I echo another user's comment: When the department has reduced counter service, it needs to provide a functional online service or app.

What's wrong with this app now??? This app use to work fine & i used it all the time. For the past week it has been coming up with a error saying it has "stopped working". I have un-installed & re-installed the app but that did not help. Customers are encourged to use this app but it does not work so therefore it will create lose confidence with the department. Potential to be a Great App Very frustrating. If you have time then you maybe okay. After trying to lodge my claim for over a week i logged in again at 7pm and finally able to submit. When working this App would be a lifesaver for those who live remotely or unable to get to a Medicare store. Will be interesting to find out actual processing time as it does state staff will action in 'due course'

I can see the sidebar menu (Vault, Digital Wallet, etc.) but the buttons shown in the third image above (including the Claim option) aren't displaying on my Samsung Mini 2 (GT-S6500T, Android 2.3.6). I just see a blank space between the Privacy and Conditions buttons at the bottom and the menu bar at the top. Why even let my phone download the app? The whole idea is super weird anyway -- how can it be that we can claim for more items through the mobile app than when sitting at a computer?

Very glitchy This is a fantastic idea, but just doesn't work. This app repeatedly timed out for no reason & gave an "we are experiencing problems, please try later message". After several attempts over 3 days, I give up! The help page was no help, just suggesting rebooting your device and checking your internet connection. Also, I couldn't see a way to report bugs to help them improve it.

Had to reinstall about 3 times Have wasted a lot of time trying to work this app, lots of bugs, and functional design is poor. I get my bills emailed to me, where's the option to upload a PDF? I have to print the bill out and photograph it, very backwards approach.

Terrible The UI for this is amateurish at best. Things like popping up the keyboard when waiting for user input doesn't happen; submit button missing; screen flickering back and forth; and no option to upload a document, I have to take a picture of it? Installed this because local Medicare office is closing. The last thing the poor staff did before probably joining the dole queue was issue repeated statements about claiming on line. Haven't been able to lodge a claim at all as it wont go past the capture stage on my Asus tablet without timing out. I then get "medicare has stopped" message repeatedly and have to log in again. The next stall is at the Account payment stage where it just freezes altogether This app would seem to be either an absolute waste of digital space or some kind of plot to prevent anybody lodging a Medicare claim ever again.

Faster to walk to Medicare in your lunch break My most recent claim went through after deleting and reinstalling this app about 5 times. It crashes on opening, and when you try and lodge a claim. Have up after trying to lodge a claim about 30 times and reinstalling twice.

The interface is terrible. Even selecting the date of service is not an easy task. Why not use the the android system for dialog boxes etc., they're better designed. The vault needs to accept upload from the phone/tablet. Scanning a letter is a lot easier than taking a photo of it and i'm sure it makes it easier for Medicare staff to confirm the details, as opposed to a blurry photo. Also if their is a technical issue on Medicare's side when trying to complete the claim, please save the details so we don't have to enter it all again. The app is a great idea but it needs to be updated for people to accept it.

So far so good After reading the previous comments I wasn't expecting much from this app. I download it and made three claims pretty easily. Yes, this app is useful but the same claims should be available through the MyGov website. Also, you can make multiple claims on the app but not multiple dates like you can on the website. So three claims later, pretty sure I sent through all three receipts for each claim I submitted. Not great, but ok.

Glitchy and crashes waaay too often :( This is supposed to make claiming easier but it is the most painful process! The app constantly crashes and 'experiences technical difficulties' promoting you to call... Which defeats the purpose of just going in and seeing a real person to claim. So annoying!!! Crappy app, stopped working now Using the app only for putting in the claim, the interface is very un-user friendly. The camera function to out in artifact is very bad, even with good phone camera / lighting still produce unreadable result. You just have a feeling, this is deliberate programmed like that to make things difficult for you. Since subsequence updates, it just now stop working when you click on it, tried clear cache/data/reinstall, no help whatsoever.

Terrible app. Probably worst app I've ever used. Why can't I do this on a pc. "Scanning" paper receipts in with phone camera is very hard to get right. Medicare not happy with the quality of photo's of receipts, but there's no way of getting a scanned document into the app.

The app saves very bad low image quality images. Anything less than a size 14 font on your photographed statement will not be readable. When saving images it does not ask you for a filename, it gives you a default file name, then you change it later. Poor user interface, if you need any UX contractors Id be happy to take on this job. You should sack your current app designers..

Up too X$#&. Can't even take clear photo of invoice through app(photo is pixelated). Whats is the point if we can't take a clear picture? Why cant i upload a JPG/PDF file? Quick and easy to use I was also worried after reading the reviews but found the app quick and easy! Lodged three claims in less than two minutes and then the money came through about a week later.

Won't allow you to just upload the documents from your files so you have to use a phone camera - silly. You should be able to just lodge these claims online. Too much messing about.

Terrible! I was logged to MyGov in the PC, but my claim could not longer be made via the PC, but ONLY (yes, ONLY) through the app. Fine, downloaded the App to find that it didn't like my username or password or secret answers to my secret questions... My account was blocked for 12 hours!). So I ended up calling to Medicare, waited 40 min to reach a human being.

The app has an issue with overcompressing photos to the point that the text is unreadable. Have lodged and relodged the same claim only to receive a letter in the mail weeks later saying i need to relodge the exact same claim because they're unable to make out the text in the photos of the invoices/receipts. The app is able to take a perfectly clear high quality photo, but the instant it saves the image it becomes overcompressed and blurred to sht. Try as I might I'm unable to lodge a claim with readable images. I'm also unable to lodge the claim on the website because it says it must be done via the app. The Medicare Centre locations are out of date. My closest local joint has been shutdown for over a year and still appears in the app. Also I know there is a new location that opened up almost a year ago, which is still not included in the app's locations The app also has issues resuming from the background and won't display half the screens. Have to force close it and restart it. Stupid app is stupid

It is astonishing that this App cannot be downloaded to a computer. It is also astonishing that certain medical claims can not be processed in the normal way through My Gov. The ease of use of these Dept of Human Services accounts is woeful. When are claimants going to be able to claim Medicare rebates easily? Most of the Medicare centres that one could go to previously appear to be closed, or incorporated into Centrelink offices, where there is usually a long wait for service. Overall, a rating of zero for customer service.

Absolute crap! You have to create user name and password, answer secret questions to prove your identity, then create a 4 digit pin code. Ridiculous! Then the app stops working. All I want to do is update details for an expired medicare card & it is proving to be impossible!!!!!!!

I think I am reasonably intelligent and educated and I find this app, like all Australian Government websites, to be full of pages of irrelevant information. I am fourth generation Australia and I am confused, how would a person who uses English as a second language be able to use this. Also, the human services log in system is by far the hardest of all for log in, the user name they give you is impossible to remember.

Buggy and Lacks info Some screens dont show any field names, so you dont know what you should be entering, or if your data entry is correct when asked to review it. I also saw a few red error messages appear when clicking next, but the screen would change before I could read it. Some of the information comments in the app dont provide enough info to actually explain anything.

Not working It will not let me select patient name for a claim today. Did a claim on 6 Apr worked fine. Please fix. It appears if you do one claim at a time this app works otherwise doing 2 it froze.

Extremely frustrated!!!! Tried to use this app for the first time today. After entering details of 21 separate items for one claim the app told me it was experiencing 'technical difficulties' & my claim could not be submitted. It seems ridiculous that you need to manually enter every item separately when you're submitting a photo of the invoice with all of those details anyway. Will resort to snail mail as I'm not even going to attempt phoning. I'll assume the Centrelink app is just as bad.

Haven't had a claim work yet Had to have claim manually processed at Medicare. Claims history is sorted by provider and shown FOR 3 YEARS in microscopic size. Can be done a lot better!

Wow. Government paperwork that just worked for me So easy to use. Once logged in, photographs your receipts (up to 10 pages) and converts to PDF. You only enter in four bits of information and submit. Soo easy. Well done Medicare.

Medicare is useless First I tried going to the myGov office. Then I tried to claim through myGov through the browser and was informed that my particular claim (just an ultrasound at SKG) could only be placed through this POS app. So I try to use the app and at the end I'm told it can't be processed due to 'technical difficulties' and I should instead try to phone Medicare. Useless!!

Seems Medicare don't want you to claim Initially this app worked ok....pretty laborious given all the data that needs to be entered, especially given all the data is on the photographed receipt anyway. Only giving one star because i cant give negative stars I would rather swallow glass than use this app again. Would the developers please add some way to upload pdfs to the vault? At the moment I have to print out the pdf bill my doctor sends me, and photograph it, which is the most ludicrous and wasteful thing I have ever done. Unreliable Had same problem as other users - unable to open app despite having previously been able to use it. Ended up uninstalling then reinstalling then I could use it again. User interface is challenging, to use a polite word.

Mr. Lau Brilliant app. Works wonderfully even on new phone. Enter user ID and password carefully. That's all. If stuck, may be your phone is running low in capacity (storage) or needs cleaning to clear junk files that can cause erractic performance.

Bug when entering mote than one item number I have used this app a few times and found it quite useful, however have now come across a big where it will not allow you to select a person to claim for if you have more than one item number on a receipt. This is rather frustrating, but hopefully can be fixed quickly!

This app would be great if it was ever able to actually process my claim. Here's the thing, it lets you fill in ALL the details, upload photos etc and then you get to the end and it tells me it's been unsuccessful because they are experiencing technical difficulties. Why not say there are issues from the start? I've now tried about 6 times over the last 24 hours and each time I get the same message. So as far as I'm concerned, this app doesn't actually work. Until it does, I'll be giving it 1 star.

Cannot make a submission Try to make a claim 3 times failed try to do it online apparently this item number can't be done online, but can be done with medi app, does this seem like an endless loop, now I am on the phone waiting waiting waiting bloody hopeless what is the point of this app just to frustrate you you end up having to deal with the old fashion phone service that no doubt will take 40 minutes on hold of lucky, and then I will end up having to go to centre link and waste another hour ...bloody hopeless

This app is a nightmare I downloaded this app for pure convenience and the hassel free method of claiming. As I claim regularly. Claim did not work, the app now won't open properly and whenever I ring Medicare to report this issue I am always asked to call back later due to high volume calls. This is a joke and desperately needs addressing. With all.the bad reviews on here I am appalled to see no improvements have been made. Where's the customer service??? Save yourself time and skip the download!

Forced to use this garbage I used to be able to claim these things online, until today. I went through the hassle of entering all my information about my claim online, only to be told at the very end that I have to install this monstrous, permissions-overreaching, archaic app which looks like a java desktop app from 1998... Not sure why this app needs so many permissions on my phone, I hope it's just lazy/incompetent/obsolete developers using wildcards in the permissions manifest file, rather than malware.

Painful Text messages with long numbers to type every login. Forgotten password painful. Feels like a typical government attempt which has foregone every standard on security and usability and just made up there own with a 'more must be better mentality'. Completely forgetting (or possibily not) that they actually have a customer. Great idea, done badly or more likely some autocratic manager making some moronic decisions disregarding sound advice.

Amateur hour. Fails on every level. Tried to use this app for five claims over five weeks, of those five, three were never processed. Had to call or go into the hell I call the centrelink/Medicare office where they asked me to use the website or app?? They finally found out it was lodged via app just lost in system!?! Now today it just crashes and won't open. A certificate IV IT TAFE team could come up with a better app as there end of term project.

What a CROC of s Absolutely useless app. I could not get past the last stage after 5 attempts, very frustrating to say the least. Rang Medicare help line all day, surprise, they were to busy to answer every time,no call back service. Tried online to claim,same bs, rang again to no avail. What a joke for a government run business. I notice no responses from complaints, at least HCF reply and try to help I think they want to make it impossible to claim unless you go a branch and do it the old fashioned way.

Useful Would be great to be able to store information about your private health care provider so this can be kept in a secure place. Also there is an issue when updating your address with the state drop down (selection does not work) thst prevents you from updating. Would also be convenient if the user could utilise nurse on call through this service (e.g. contact them/communicate via app live messanger). Hopefully this continues to be built out and the UI improved.

Does not work. Entered all the details, there is a screen that flashes with a great big red warning but it moves far too quickly to be able to actually read it. Then it gets all the way to the need to submit and says "we are experiencing technical difficulties, call us". What a joke. The online claim doesn't work either, so back to old school waiting on the phone for hours.

Good initial try Great idea to allow claiming through the app. However its not clear when the claim is submitted also cant go back and make changes from the review screen. I had to hit the claim button several times then realised i made 3 claims for the same thing!

What a crock! Downloaded this app on my new phone. It lets me log in and go through the claim process then when I go to confirm it tells me I have unstable internet connection. So frustrated as can't lodge child dental Medicare rebates online. I thought these apps were meant to make it easier to claim. What a crock!

Annoying to use Asks for your pin code, but you still have to sign in with your card number every time. Claim wouldn't go through multiple times due to system issues, but it wouldn't fail until after you had entered all the annoying details. After trying a couple days later it finally went through, that's why I gave it 2 stars instead of one.

Wont let me upload images from my image gallery and it is very hard to capture a clear photo of an A4 size document. Very frustrating. Why can't i just upload pdfs to the My Gov site instead??? Would be so much easier.

Pointless Unable to select patient name during the claim process (mine is the only name on the card), which is a required field, so cannot use the app for online claiming. I can't believe a government app was allowed to be released with such a major issue. It's embarrassing.

Pleasantly surprised I was extremely skeptical of installing this app from reading previous reviews, but had no choice as the online portal on desktop would not allow me to claim. I was able to complete the claim process without an issue, still waiting to see what the rest of the process is like, but so far so good.

Technical issues fail Can't be processed due to technical issues, call us. Fail. The second claim I tried to put through wouldn't let me select the patient name (there's only me on the card), so couldn't even get to the 'technical issues' page. Try again Medicare :(

Poor image capture I have a perfect image on my phone but it won't let me select it. Must take a new pic. The app compresses the image so much that it's not longer readable. Useless.

I try to submit a claim online through MyGov but cannot due to technical difficulties. I then call Medicare but am advised by an automated message that they can't attend to my call and I should use MyGov or the App. I try using the app and but my claim is rejected due to "technical difficulties". What's worse is that the exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. When will Medicare finally fix this issue so that it is possible for me to make a claim? I never leave bad reviews but this is ridiculous.

What a joke!!! I've wasted my mobile data, my time installing, uninstalling and re-installing. Not to mention about my tax to pay whoever the idiots built this stupid app. "Unfortunately" Medicare Express stops working everytime. Wait, what? So I have my invoice in PDF format straight from my doctor's office. Should be able to attach it to my claim and submit, right? Nope. I have to print out the PDF, and then use the app to photograph the PDF which is then converted to a second, lower quality PDF and only then is it submitted. Anyone see a problem here?

Useless The website redirected me to this app to make a claim. I filled everything out and the it said that the app isn't working and to call 132 011 which then keeps hanging up on me. This is ridiculous

Ok but needs some tuning I find the app is reliable and works well for me. The captured images are very poor quality and makes them useless for a personal archive. I'd like to see the images improved, better claim history displays and also (as others have suggested) some facility to store extra personal medical information.

Critical buttons won't work I was making a claim and vital buttons wouldn't work, incl. the one to select my name?. Last resort is to complete a form and snail mail it. Most people would give up. Perhaps that's what the Australian Government claims!
