André Restivo part of our Productivity and have average installs from 50000 to 100000. Last Update Aug. 15, 2015. Google play rating is 92.2979. Current verison is 1.23.1. Actual size 6.2 MB.
Looks good, but how to spell check? Hello. I switch on the writer mode, but how do I spell-check what I have written? Language is selected to English (UK), I type some words incorrectly, but there is no spell check action whatsoever. I really like many bits about it, but spell checking does not seem to work, or is it that I do not understand something?
The best Android code editor thus far. First, this is the only quality code editor I could find that could indent AND unindent code. You can't write software if you can't unindent blocks of code. If Quoda could unindent, I might have stayed with Quoda. (Seems the author fixed the "Save As" prompt problem, but when you first open the app it forgets the respective servers of your "recent" files.) Unlike what another reviewer said, SFTP and FTP do work. Would be nice if CTRL-F and CTRL-G worked for searching. Works with Samsung's "Multi Window" which is useful if you want to split screen with a browser window. (Hotkey problem I mentioned before, I think it's a problem with Bluetooth, I need to do more research on that.)
Starting to Get Slow DroidEdit Pro has been my main and only PHP/HTML/CSS editor for quite sometime now. It has many useful and nice features. It's customizable syntax highlighting setting remains untouched by any editors out there. However, as my project files become large, DroidEdit Pro has started to get slow as well in terms of responsiveness. I believe this could be because of syntax highlighting engine that was used before, but I'm not sure entirely so I could very well be wrong. I still love using DroidEdit Pro and would love to remain as my only editor, but because of the lags, I've started looking at other editor apps to support DroidEdit Pro on larger files. I still think it deserves 5 stars though, it's an excellent app, just not on large files now.
Nice app but afther buying... After buying the app I discovered that when wanting to save a file the SD card is not visible. You have to navigate through the filesystem to get to it. Please show default the main storage devices. In my case default tablet storage and SD Card.
Its on all of my devices My favorite, and only text editor for android. Had the free version for a long while and I still thought it was great. I decided to buy the Pro so I could maximize my screen by cutting out the occasional ad. I happily bring this up as my go to mobile editor. The Dropbox support really helped me in a bind when I least expected it. Allowing me to present a portfolio of my work right off my phone & tablet, with syntax highlighting in everything I have ever thrown at it. Its a MUST have, and if you are serious and an editor is something you need occasionally that its a SUGGEST buy.
Great app so far. I've had the pro app for quite some time now, but only recently started working it in to my daily routine. Trying to move some of my workload to mobile to open up my workspace a little, and by open it up, I mean move it outside to the patio next to the pool. Wondering if Microsofts OneDrive integration is going to happen sometime. Google Drive and dropbox are great, but since OneDrive is already part of the Windows environment, and basically required to run anyway, it would be a fine addition.
Editor of note! Honestly, of all mobile editors, DROID edit is sincerely one of the best. There is no bias here either... If you're an one's and zero's freak like myself and you enjoy "Notepad ++" then here is the mobile version!
Compiling code? So the app hands down awesome to the max. But the one problem that I find in it is that I can't figure out how to compile my java code or any code to be exact. Could you send help my way on how to do so?
Pretty Great I like the app, but It would be nice if it had a little more ftp management (for deleting files already on a server). Thanks
Very Nice app Still the best app of this kind for what I need it for. Works great on my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition.
Problem with DroidX 2.3.4 I used the free version and loved it. I bought pro yet I get an invalid package file. Probably a problem on my side since its happened before, but.. will change to 5 stars once I can successfully download
Very good editor Definitely the best choice to edit files in my tablet. Its worth the money
This is the Sublime Text of mobile phones! Before I write a review, does anyone know an easy way to compile and run c++ scripts? CPP Droid does it perfectly but not sure how to do it in this app. I tried installing that script launcher but it doesn't help. Thanks in advance.
HTC One M7 » ZTE Warp Sync Great Tool..Would be Even Better,if Phone is Rooted, but still,Very Useful..
Should be open-sourced Cuts off files randomly. The git support is terrible (which is why the dev created pocket git?!). If it was open source, I think we would see a lot of improvements. I would gladly pay more for an open source version.
DroidPro Nice setting capabilities to spec.
Best Editor I've tried several code editors for Android devices and this has been the most stable and best performer so far. I normally use jEdit but that is not mobile. While DroidEdit may not have all the bells and whistles it is a very powerful tool for creating code on the fly.
Really good A very well designed editor. Recommended!
Everything is here The only thing I still miss is regex in replace with :)
In a word, Useful I agree with other posts it is getting show. Not sure why. Anyways, I find this very useful when I need it. Built in ftp is great. I don't use Dropbox, but for the servers I hit, it is not an issue.
Ftp on pro edition How do you get the stp support? I 'd like to edit files on a server. Thanks
Perfect Just what I needed. The FTP integration is great!
10/10 Still the best solution for Android
Love this application.
Love it Best editor on the market.
Great for Minecraft PE Modding If you mod Minecraft PE I recommend using Droid Edit. It's great! But if you have a Samsung Galaxy Tab3 it might lag. (Like mine)
Great editor but This is a great editor app would give 5 stars but recent update hangs and then returns a packet update error and fails to install hence only 3 stars
Unable to retrive file list I purchased the app. I cannot retrive the file list when using FTPES- FTP over Explicit TLS. But when I use same credentials in x-plore app, I can retrive it. Really disappointed with droidedit. Also there was no response from support email id, even after sending them two mails.
One handy little text/code editor! I recommend this app because it is possibly the best code editor on android and with the ability to chose what the file format is, it also makes taking notes and writing text documents a snap. Ever since I bought it, I have never regretted it or ceased to use it to start coding in Lua. It has only crashed 2 times over the span of 3 months on my brick of a "smart"phone which crashes on most other apps that you would think would use less processing power. In short useful, reliable, and money well spent.
Great with multiple files. Now all Speech to Text making doubles? This editor really helps me manage and work with multiple files. All of my current "open" files are in a scroll-able list across the top, so I can easily jump between current "open" files. Also very easy to open "recent" files. One big problem: I make heavy use of "speech to text" and it seems now my whole Android device is messed-up: I am now getting "doubles" when I speak in all apps on my phone. I am not positive that DroidEdit is the culprit.
The only Droid editor worth buying. I'd given up on finding a good editor for Android. Then I found DroidEdit. Tried the free version, fell in love and bought pro same day. The features are honestly amazing for an app. Look no further, this is what you're after.
Excellent I've been using this for years. It is a great text editor and it doesn't get in the way of you working. Only complaint would be that it....doesn't support MATLAB syntax highlighting, but that's a niche thing.
Nice editor This is my primary editor on android now. FTP support is good. Makes website adjustments quick and easy. It can be a little slow with large files on the Nexus 7, but the Nexus 9 handles large files with no problem. Does not allow reg ex capture variables in find and replace, which I consider a major flaw. Sadly, none of the other editors I've tried do a proper find and replace either. Overall very nice though.
it's good and useful app, but the last update crashed it - i had error during update, the app uninstalled and now I cann't install it, but the free DroidEdit installs and works correctly. Waiting for working version
Almost perfect A great product, one of the best must-have apps on Android. Please fix FTP password saving. It always asks for the pass upon connection regardless it has been previously saved. Thanks
Super! Very useful app. Thanks!
Please, add file assotiations: *.mk - makefiles, *.cmake - CMake scripts, * - plain text for example REDME, script_without_extension e.t.c. Please add navigation support: "find refernces", " go to definition", "go to declaration", e.t.c.
Awesome editor! Really... Best stuff in my opinion. Everything I need in one small app... But, need .less support :(
The best Very good ide
cool but I like old icon more than new one
SFTP connection error. Can't connect via SFTP. Connection error. Settings are correct, I am using notepad++ with NppFTP on PC for edits, and ConnectBot on my phone connects successfully.
Very good! Thanks for your app! Tab size setting is needed. And wider file browser panel for long filenames is needed too.
Add support of matlab syntax and fix bug with cyrillic encoding.
Use it for html and latex The best text editor I've found for Android. It is slightly sluggish (nothing deal-breaking) but that is likely due to syntax highlighting. (LG G Pad 8.3, 2GB RAM, Snapdragon 600.) Great editor for getting things done without a laptop.
Pretty alright Got this cause its nice and seemed to have all the functionality i needed. However, im getting an error when trying to clone a repository: cannot open git-upload-pack. Can u guys fix this please? Other than that, awesome!
Dmitriy Just most useful android editor. With Pocket git is MUST HAVE suite for any code-geek. Thanks to the author!
Great editor Really like this editor and available tools. Use it a lot to edit my projects on the go and with various options you can easily customize it to your liking. A little slow with large projects and syntax highlightning, but nothing that makes it less desirable
Tablet Version Doesn't Have Features Using the pro version of this app on my tablet doesn't give me access to the settings option, which means I've paid for the free version, but without ads. Attempting to contact the programmer on Twitter is unsuccessful a week later. Will remedy review upon remedy of tablet woes.
The slowest piece of shit on earth Useful one of teen seconds.. I'm not on a low end, I'm on a Nexus 5. I'm refunding..
Ftps Says connection successful but never shows any files
Won't install Bought it but during install I just get the error 'package file is invalid'
Extra keys and Julia lang Would be nice if the extra keys can be configurable, the keys needed for latex, python or julia are diferent. So configure those things can help a lot. Also please add julia highlights.
Great HTML with inline CSS & PHP syntax highlighting needs some work but great app
Nice So far so good... Could you add syntax highlighting for ASCIIDoc please?
Definitely the best editor out there. I have basically replaced programming on my computer with my tablet because of this app. I love the FTP Servers and such so when you save it auto uploads and such. I do recommend getting a keyboard with this app. I love this app! You have got to try it!
King of Code Editors This is my go to code editor, for mobile use. Fantastic! Feature rich, reliable, and Dropbox integration make it the best I have tried, in the Play Store. Try it!
Clean, robust, and the right support; revisted review a year later: still great Ownership: >1yr, improved stability during this time --- 4.8/5 --- PRO There are a ton of color themes and syntax highlighting is top notch --- PRO If you are using an external keyboard, this will feel a lot like gedit (Linux) LL --- WISH vertical edit mode, perhaps a (+) (-) bubble icons to extend or retract vertical selection --- CON Spell check spells dizahstur on performance
Great code editor. Developer reponsed to fix Google drive MIME issue within one day. Ideal app for code editing on mobile. Purchased the pro version and had problems on saving correct MIME type on Google Drive. The developer responsed quickly and fix it within one day. Thanks.
I'm in love I mostly use this when an idea strikes me, but I'm not near my computer. It is a perfect little text editor. So many settings so you can tailor it to your tastes.
Perhaps the best app I've ever bought Just starting with coding, and this app lets me take my new addiction anywhere I roam. Your continued work is an amazing inspiration and your app is a brilliant tool :)
Pretty good for a phone code editor I've only used it a little because editing code on a phone is not a lot of fun. But this makes it about as good as can be expected, a nice place in between a full blown (and hard to use) editor and a dumbed-down (and useless) note taker.
Just the best code editor on android. This is perfect for editing code on android, and with sl4a it's also great for debugging purposes. There is no better script editor on the android platform than this.
Love this app! This is easily one of my most used apps, the features are there and the UI is excellent, but I am giving it 3 stars because I get the message "Package file is invalid" when attempting to install it on either of my two phones. . While the Dev is saying it's a problem with Google, I'm still stuck. with using an ad filled version or another solution entirely.
Great app Love the app, best text editor for Android. However, can you PLEASE make it quit auto opening the keyboard every time you switch focus back to droidedit. It is probably intentional but definitely needs an option. I often use the program for check lists. I'm not looking to write more every single time I go back to the app. lol It just takes up a huge amount of viewable space, very annoying. Easy fix though? Please make it so.
Great App, Wish All Apps Were This Good Wonderful code editor -- works every time. Complements to the developer on a fantastic, quality and useful product.
Ugly bug causes lost work Nearly useless. Unfixed bug causes connection to be lost, randomly, without warning. Further, the same bug causes the user to be unable to log back in to the server- "retrieve file list failed". No warning, either, just randomly stops being able to save files or reconnect. Uninstalling, warning others to avoid. Sorry I paid for this one.
No Voice Typing? I really liked Droid Edit Free, but didn't want advertisements - so I ugraded to Droid Edit PRO. Unfortunately, the pro version does not show the voice typing option (while the free version does).
The most useful code editor on the Play store Beautiful code editor that provides all the functionalities that any programmer may need. I use it daily to add to existing C++ and java code and it hasn't failed me thus far. I'd love if you'd be able to add support for OneDrive.
Great app! Small bug: Click Google Drive, popup prompts for account selection, click cancel, popup re-pops in a loop.
It could be better if... ... You add some sample for HTML, CSS, PHP, XML Template. Besides, I cannot edit/typing Vietnamese inside Editor for some content. I use stock keyboard and Laban IME Keyboard
Powerful In The Hand This application paired with a keyboard does something we used to dream about...
Great program, but could be improved This is a fantastic editor, that is well worth purchasing, but I'm hoping for some extra features to make it perfect. For example, auto indentation and improving the speed of syntax highlighting (it's currently quite slow, especially with long word wrapped lines).
Loved it, 5 stars, until DroidGrep broke Without DroidGrep, DroidEdit is severely limited for exploring source code projects. For some reason, DroidGrep can no longer see subdirectories. Many users have this problem. Fix DroidGrep & it's back to 5 stars.
SUPPORT FOR SFTP!!! If you're a student, and you like to work on programming assignments on your Android tablet, this is quite literally the best app on the marketplace - bar none. For those of you who don't know what SFTP is, it's Secure File Transfer Protocol - or FTP over SSH. It means you can edit files on a linux server as though they were local with full support for syntax highlighting. This app, in conjunction with JuiceSSH, allow me to do absolutely everything I need when it comes to C development, all from my Android tablet. I can't say enough good things about this app. 11/10 with rice.
Poor Dropbox support Has Dropbox support but won't refresh file when app is reopened. Sometimes you end up with conflicts editing an old version file.
How edit python script How run this script x=1 y=2 if x>y: print('x is greater than y ') elif x<y: print('x is less than y') else: print ('x is equal y')
Nice editor Ftp dropbox g drive and local. Im glad i purchased and can code on the go
Great app but.. The sl4a won't work when I try it so help me please I'd definitely give 5 star if that's fixed or someone tells me I'm doing it wrong maybe?
The free version works great, but when I try to install the pro version it says "package file corrupt". I tried downloading it 4 separate times. Refund
Highly recommend! I could not recommend an app more than this. It is a great tool to use with ease, supports many languages and has a great workspace layout.
FTP doesn't work Files won't be listed somehow.
Now needs autocomplete Auto complete feature would make this brilliant!
Great app Works well with landscape tablet and wireless keyboard and mouse .
the best editor on google play Please, add Markdown support!
Works great. Wish for LESS support in the editor and hopefully Chrome Android supports LESS browser links and scripts. EDIT: I later installed KWS Server which serves files on http... instead of file... and the Android Chrome Browser now recognizes the LESS browser setup and correctly renders the page. Adding LESS to the editor would be sheer mobile coder bliss. Thanks...
❤ Loving this editor, but could we possibly get syntax highlighting for Scss and Haml?
Great app! Any chance of adding Matlab/Octave to the syntax recognition list?
Code Editor... Does what it should... the only thing missing is an information panel that would tell me something useful, like the cursor position in a line...
Best Android Editor Hands down this app is a most have for programmers. I love it because it allows me to view code that was emailed to me hassle free. And the built in sftp lets me connect to my PI and edit whatever file on it that I want. 5/5.
Cannot view in browser Cannot view an HTML file saved in Google Drive in Chrome. 'Access to the file was denied'. No point having this app now. Getting a refund.
Fix it. Can't save files Whenever I try to use save as to save a file to my external sd card it just says save failed. Fix it. I have reinstalled countless times
Previously was the best but now syntax highlighting slows to a crawl on some files. Not useable.
Good tool I would love to see bright theme though and more material design. Code auto completion at least at very basic level would be awesome.
Hardware Enter doubles on LG Enact / LG F3Q! On my LG Enact and LG F3Q, a single handware Enter press produces two linebreaks (Ctrl+Enter produces a single linebreak, but not respecting indent). That's annoying! PLEASE FIX.
Was better I really liked this program. Until the other day I went to copy and paste and forund out that I now have to use the menu to do this. I'm not a typist but I am a keyboardist. (I look at the keys and don't use home keys but, I can do 60 words a minute out of my head.) I started using computers in 1979 and have always been able to Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V You will get the 2 stars when they work again.
Just beginning to use this, but it's great so far!
Works as a very good programming tool, but for some reason tabbed-spaces made in an existing .txt file won't show up in DroidEdit, instead all tabbed-over items are all mushed together! :(
Good App for reviewing a little bit of code, view log files, or in emergencies even change some lines at the phone. Even more powerful with a tablet and a keyboard. The only important thing missing is syntax highlighting for markdown. I really can't understand why they would not support it. Overall, it's worth its price.
Great for programming on the go! I use this all the time to make quick changes to game scripts. It does seem to get a bit sluggish when opening a large script though.
Liked it but when in landscape so one can see full lines, the keyboard spresds itself over half the screen. It would be better with qwerty in columns down the right of the text
So far so good. The ad is gone :-D . The Note will do the job but I like the highlights here.
2 stars until I figure out how to run my python script Actually I am a happy DroidEdit Free user. I upgrade to this paid version just hoping its "run external command" feature would help me to run the python script I'm editing. But I just got a "maybe SL4A not install?" pop-up and then nothing happens. This is probably not really the fault of DroidEdit, but right now I still have to manually use QPython instead. Then there is no point for me to use this DroidEdit Pro.
Good but needs a couple things fixed Line numbers need to not include blank lines between lines of code. Blank lines between codelines is too large. Wastes too much screen space. Needs to be adjustable in settings.
Would love to see support for syntax highlighting of newer languages added, eg; go, rust
Perfect for coding/editing on the go! I've been a long time user of this app and have seen it become very refined and one of the best at what it does! Great job on this app! Definitely recommend this to everyone who does any type of coding/editing because you can start on your device and later move on to your computer if need :)
The Perfect Code Editor For Android Devices Highly recommend !.. This app has helped me countless times !.. Please add a grep feature without the additional app !
Almost perfect For a code editer with remote file open/save, this is easily the best yet. A suggestion to the author: I am not able to get to parent directory in file browser.
Needs these things; Markdown preview, a quickly accessible night/day mode button (maybe switch between two selected themes, or just make theme changing a toolbar button), and a "writer" mode button that switches on/off the necessary parts. Also, resize extra buttons would be nice, they take up far too much room vertically
The Best Editor I was searching for a good Android editor for a while and finally found this one. Highlighting, Dropbox integration and other stuff I want from an editor - this one has it all. The editor + Pocket Git enable me to continue working on my projects easily while commuting. I have only recently found out that both apps are from the same developer and I must say - it just feels great when a developer understands the needs of fellow developers and creates such great tools
Great App I've been using the free version for years and finally decided to get the premium version and I have no regrets the Dropbox integration is a life saver
Wow—just what I wanted I love it. Droid does what I want. I have the colored characters and don't have the auto-completion. Can't stand auto-completion. The extra characters and options are added pluses.
Amazing Supports any code. Just took my breath away
Impressive I've tried a small handful of editing apps and this one is the best. So many customization options but not at the cost of ease of use. Google drive (and other cloud services) integration makes it even better. Like someone else said, a markdown preview feature would be an amazing addition , one I'd be happy to pay for
Nice Notepad Everything works as one would expect, however when trying to view pages checked out from git, I get an EACCES style error because git was staged in the app's data directory, Chrome can't read it. Please either open up perms on that directory, allow us to specify a per-repository root, or drop me a line and I'll help you fix it.
Editor of note! Honestly, of all mobile editors, DROID edit is sincerely one of the best. There is no bias here either... If you're an one's and zero's freak like myself and you enjoy "Notepad ++" then here is the mobile version! if not better. well done to the developers!
Delays and Pauses with Android 6 This was my main code editor until my Note 4 was upgraded to Android 6. Then its performance degraded. There are now delays and pauses (of a few seconds - enough to make you go "aghh!") while I type or scroll. I do not see this behavior with other apps so there must be some kind of incompatibility with Android 6.
Love this app How ever at present i am getting invalid package. Bought an old droid pro so i can code with a physical keyboard, but cannot install
Not scalable OK if your code file is a few kilobytes. If it's larger (eg a few hundred kilobytes) DroidEdit just can't handle it - freezes and ANRs while trying to open or scroll.
Development appears stalled Can't cope with large text files, not as fast as QuickEdit. Uninstalled.
Perfect code editor! Support so many syntax highlight, exactly what I want! The only shortcoming is limited encoding format.
Great editor Code editors on mobile look more like gimmicks. This one doesn't! It looks and works well.
Hmm. It's good, in fact great, but whenever I select something, and I use the draggy thingy on the right, it glitches it out and makes it go all the way to the left, nothing else. Plus, lack of autosaving can be an issue...
regex for \n new line not working i was trying to do some find and replace in a file, noticed there was a regex mode button. Tried doing escape characters and was disappointed to see them not function. Please fix the regex.
Going mobile is the IN thing Did a Great Great job with this. Wish u more creative ideas to solutions that will shake the world.
Best out there Having access to my school ssh server to check on and make corrections to homework from my phone and tablet is amazing. The always present question of "how did you figure out..." is now so much easier to answer.
Amazing I'm doing an increasing amount of responsive development directly from my phone, making quick edits on the go as I notice bugs or have an idea. This editor is lightweight and exactly what I need. I greatly appreciate the custom themes and hope that gets expanded in the future - would love to be able to target more specifically, for example highlighting scripts and media queries. Really amazing app, happy to pay for such a quality product.
