DINGO DOLLARS:

The AIB Build a Bank Challenge is one of Ireland’s largest transition year competitions with over 180 schools signed up for this year’s programme. Students develop their management, marketing and people skills by implementing creative customer loyalty programmes and fully exploiting technology to create a successful school bank.
The regional finals take place in February and March 2015. The panel of AIB judges ask students to present their experience of running their school bank as a team and to highlight the successes and challenges they faced throughout the competition. The top four winning schools from each regional final will then go forward to the national final in April 2015. The national final will be held in the RDS to compete for a top prize of €5,000 for their school and the title of AIB Build a Bank National Champion.

The team is comprised of six members- Manager Seán Curtin, Assistant Manager Sadhbh O’ Muirí, Sales and Marketing executive Tommy Muldoon, Financial Controller Shenice Rochford and Customer Services Reps Jack Hennelly and Nathan Masterson. Business teacher Megan Regan also assists the team.
The Build a Bank competition allows students to set up a bank within their school, for pupils within the school. This bank allows pupils to set up a bank accounts, make deposits, access online and mobile banking facilities as well as give the option to receive a debit card.
Over the course of the competition students are faced with a number of challenges, including organising a business plan, seeking sponsorship from businesses, designing a theme and being involved in the local community.
