Don't subscribe to this App, it's broken! Like other users when I subscribed to this App, it only worked for the first month then the app would treat me as a free user when trying to read plus articles. The app still made sure to charge me every month for the subscription service though! I went back and forth with customer service for a month and they were unable to solve the issue. I gave up after they asked me for my login details. What company needs the login details of their customers to fix the issue? Avoid this app!

Joseph Jordan

JOSEPH JORDAN I was born and raised in Chicago but moved to alabama and this is a great way for me to keep up with all that is going on in the windy cjty

sergio teran

Don't get the last update !!!!! After the last update l have noticed that about 90% of the articles are premium when before it was more like 50%. And the 5 free premium articles has not reset in about 2 month's.. So this app has become as useless as a newspaper, Great Job Tribune!!!! I'll just erase this App and goto the free internet for my news like a normal person

Erin Theroux

i paid so I could read "premium" stories, which worked for the first month, and then I wasn't able to access again. I removed history/cookies and installed updates, but it still wouldn't work. I emailed the address provided for help, only to be answered with a generic auto message to visit the FAQ page online. I called the number listed and they have no account with my name, even though my bill shows ive paid. Sad :( I liked this the first month!!

Ron Gerr

Could never get pass the five free stories although money was deducted for three months in a row

Chris Nunn

Missing copy and paste Can you all please add copy and paste..... Other than that... Superb app!!

Jim Bell

Bye Felicia!! Any story worth reading is a digital plus story that you have to pay for. Uninstalling.

Nicholas Kischuk

Pay to read Sends push notifications constantly for content they want you to pay for. So many free news sites. Have to delete this one.

Allen Montgomery

Unable to register with FaceBook It says I can register with FaceBook. But when I try to do that, it asks me to log into FaceBook. Excuse me! I am already logged into FaceBook. I shouldn't have to log in again. Also, I do not pay to read stories. There are plenty of free sites out there.

Michael Lang

Question on the App - Why doesn't the ' Welcome to the Chicago Tribune App' story roll off? It's been on my feed for months.

Joel Colon

Garbage App Most of the articles you can click on are considered "premium stories" which you have to pay a monthly fee to be able to read. There are so many "free" alternatives out there to catch up on news and commentary, it doesn't make sense to download Chicago Tribune. It's garbage.

Jake W

Used to be a good app. Uninstalled

Monique Runnels

Push notifications fix If you're going to send them they should link to the article in question. It's dumb to send them and then you still have to dig through the app to find the article.

Jeffrey W

Crap Always defaults to their stories that were current when I first switched to tie app and that was Days Ago!?! Edit Works now.

Erik S

Must register Must register for 5 free top stories a month. Bye Bye. Fox and others are free..

David Trevarthen

Bad Registration Procedure Registered using my email and a familiar password. But, the app would not let me login. The help link simply opened a new email message to the Tribune. So, I tried logging in using Google+. That worked fine. It's not good when new users lose faith in an app immediately due to a broken registration process.

John LaViola

This is no good - support is poor Does not work on my Galaxy S5. I am a Tribune member and I cannot log in through the app. I have been working with support and all they can offer is uninstall/reinstall and ask for my system information. Does anyone else with a S5 have this problem?. I give this one star but it should be zero.

leila mcgrew

It's OK but there's no breaking news alert It's OK but I not receiving any breaking news alerts please update your news app thank you

Skip Shade

Password rules have changed I can't login with my existing tribune password. It says it doesn't meet the password rules. The account already exists from the web site. I'm not creating a new account. Should let me sign in.

Mike Koeppen

Tribe app usability It opens fine but every time I try to log in the app crashes. I have a Motorola HD max

Kurt Stricker

Content blocked, ads cover stories Much of the content requires subscription. When getting to an article a full page overlay covered article and couldn't be dismissed

Emily Mixon

Love the new app and new website. Very easy to navigate.

Larry Kuehn

Doesn't do much I wish there was a way to just download and save the paper on phone until I have time to read it.

A Google User

Love this app! Too bad they are removing it and forcing us to use the browser. Because that's why we downloaded the app right? Cause we enjoy using the browser? Guess I'll find another.

A Google User

Gps Was working great however latest update has my gps running while open and after I close. Please fix.

Nancy Lewis

Doesn't show content Open app and it doesn't show anything and goes to my Web browser and shows an error.

A Google User

Battery Hog New update uses GPS even when the app is closed. If this issue is not fixed promptly I will be uninstalling.

A Google User

GPS App turns on GPS, but doesn't turn it off when you exit the program...please fix...galaxyS2

A Google User

Charles Great app. I'd be willing to pay a subscription fee for this if slightly improved. For example, set it up to sync every morning at like 6am and be able to read it offline. That'd be for when I'm in the subway on my commute and not getting 3G. I'd pay for that.

A Google User

GPS stays open and drains battery Needs to be fixed.

A Google User

Gps stays on after close Activates gps, and it stays active even after app is closed. I have to force close the cached process to turn it off. Uninstalled until this problem is fixed.

A Google User

Excellent Weather I rate according frequency of use or ease- this app comes out on top.

Michael Ludden

Useless See title of review

A Google User

Finally the pictures are showing

A Google User

Good Works fine on Xoom...Don't know why so many people have problems with it. Great to be able to see what's happening in the Windy City.

A Google User

Used to work great, but for the last week it always says error loading breaking news. Please fix!

A Google User

Almost perfect A bit laggy, and pictorial with info captions cannot scroll to view full text. HTC sensation xe

A Google User

POOR Very poorly designed. You can't get back to the starting page, the menu icon is displayed but nothing pops up if you tap it, the graphics is bad, etc.

A Google User

Not working! Please fix! Keep saying fail to load, has not worked in days!!! Galaxy S2

Chris Nunn

Missing copy and paste Can you all please add copy and paste..... Other than that... Superb app!! AND AFTER SEVERAL UPDATES..... STILL NO COPY AND PASTE SUPPORT.... SMH

Jack Noe

What is with only able to see 5 articles

meraj alam

Excellent update!! Fantastic new layout very smooth!!!

Don Adams

Don Holley

Feels more like a newspaper Love the new design! Better organized. Easier to find the stories I want to read!

Patrick K

Too many ads I have used this for a long time and every new release adds more ads and popups.

Steve Meder

You did good The new layout looks great. Good job.

Andres Valle

Good news bad app I like the news that I get on here but the app is a disaster. I am subscribed to the news app only and it sometimes won't let me see the paid stories. I emailed customer support and they were useless. I ended up unsubscribing and resubscribing but it happened again. I figured out for some reason the app keeps me logged in but I have to restore my subscription like I would if I would have switched phones. Also, with the new update, ads are everywhere regardless of your paid subscription and crashes way more

Avi Schwartz

Annoying notification bug I am a digital subscriber and yet when the app displays a news alert notification it doesn't recognize me as a subscriber and limits me to ten articles per month. This doesn't happen when opening the app normally, only through its own notification. Tried to explain it to Tribune support and they don't understand what's the problem. They need better support people for the money they charge.

kevin kenny

Useless You can't read 90% of the articles on the site. Not worth it. Plenty of better news sites from which to get your updates.

Gary Rejebian

Nice layout, authentication sucks app regularly bombs out when opening from a push notification. the whole authentication issue for valid subscriptions/unlimited viewing is really a PAIN for the user...getting told you have X remaining stories to read when you are a paying subscriber is really an INSULT! FIX IT PLEASE!!!

Patrick Puckett

Unstable, doesn't function as designed The app crashes a lot and push alerts always seem to go back to the last article you read, not the one you currently want.

Don Kreski

Mediocre Photos not there. Videos do not run. Web based paper much better tho not formatted for tablet. Reporting is good but NY Times has much better app.

quanita harding

Broken app App no longer opens. It stays on the intro page without going to the articles.

Skip Shade

Very sluggish/no comments When you finish reading a story and go back to home page, it reloads every story. Takes a while to first exit the story, then a really long time to reload all of the stories again. How about caching them? And why aren't article comments available?

Don Holley

Feels more like a newspaper Love the new design! Better organized. Easier to find the stories I want to read!

10 articles per month / pay for more First news app that makes you pay if you want to read more than 10 TEN! articles a month. In a big city like this, you can go over that amount in one day. What kind of news outlet charges you to tell you about your hometown. Especially Chicago. This is sad, I've been meaning to write a review for months now but I've all but uninstalled this app. Today is the day where I really wanted to read a story but can't unless I cough up some cash. Even the paying suckers are complaining. Thanks Trib, but no thanks.

Mary Dawson

Broken app I'm alerted to articles, but when I click it just freezes on the home page and doesn't open the content. Seriously messed up.

Katie Agle

From mediocre to unusable Since a week or so ago, I have not been able to read any articles that didn't count against the monthly limit. Uninstalling.

Antonio Schiappa

Ads More time to load because of new ads.

Harry Seyfert

Chicago Tribune Daily morning edition of the newspaper

tom gawron

Works when it wants to. Paper subscription I like, but this to be fixed.50% of the time it will not open

Shannan Lefever

Crashes A LOT Crashes A LOT. Enough said.

Frank Szewczyk

loads stories a little slow even on a LG G4

Bob Keelan

Ok app Good presentation of news. Very few pictures. Not good with video. Articles are not date stamped so sometimes you find old content and other times you get content that has not been in the print edition yet. It's a little buggy. Takes a long time to start. It sometimes forgets I'm a subscriber and I have to reboot or logon again.

Charlie Moran

Flaky software The content is great but there are a few problems: it crashes every time I look at a notification; I have an annual subscription and I'm logged in - it still tells me that I only have 10 free reads per month and asking me f I want to read this article as one of my ten; and generally when I get a breaking news notification, it takes me to a page totally unrelated to the notification. Stop frustrating you customers!

Kellogg Fairbank

Tribune App Easy navigation and use. Available to read the paper as I travel in Europe as well as the USA. Allows me to keep up with local news and teams.

william field

Headlines with no story I'm a tribune subscriber and I'm a little disappointed with this app. Very often when you click on a story all you get is the headlines.

M. J. Krager

Nice, on the rare occasions that it launches. Would help, too, if you could actually SHARE pages and have it work.

Gary Roll

...when it works This app is hit or miss. Sometimes it launches quickly, other times it hangs and does not respond. Also, please decide which business model you want to use. Hitting the limit on 10 articles per month is annoying.

Mackey Wynkoop

Alert links rarely work Love the content and the navigation in the app is typically fine, but when I receive an update alert on my phone and tap it I am rarely sent to the article. Typically, I will be sent to an article from days before. That never happens with the NYT app. Just saying...

scott forester

It doesn't launch! It used to but not anymore. I contacted tribune but all they could offer was uninstall and reinstall. It didn't fix it.

Eric Thevenot

Better than going via web Had troubles accessing my account via android website. It wouldn't show login tabs. This eliminates that issue, nice way to access stories/subjects I want.

Karen Nothacker

I like the app with reservation I love the Chicago Tribune and the app, but I would appreciate it if the app would coordinate better with the alerts. Sometimes they do, sometimes they do not!

Tim Massing

All stories are premium story. Even ones that are free on the site. Uninstalling.

Mark Krempl

Good news app Work well for what it does

James Salvato

Doesn't acknowledge digital subscription I can read unlimited stories online due to my digital subscription but this app doesn't recognize it. No good

Phyllis Rogg

Chicago tribune Have full subscription and cannot open all articles. Takes forever to open it...

Steven Gard

Great source for Chicago news!

Randy Nixon

Crashes a lot slow starts Fix that

Jim Rozell

my go to source

Angela Kus

Crashes CONSTANTLY It's difficult to get my money's worth from my subscription, as the app crashes every time it's opened.

Bryen Yunashko

Visual impairment I loved the visual accessibility making this one of my favorite news apps. And I'm a paid subscriber. But recent update downgraded the accessibility. I hope this was a mere mistake and that the trib hasn't decided to shun blind and visually impaired readers. I'm confident in my hopes that trib will quickly rectify this.

Stephen Czyz

Slow, buggy While it did improve this week (no longer have to invoke twice to get to main screen), it's still very slow, and will occasionally hang

Andres Valle

Good news, bad app I like the news that I get on here but the app is a disaster. I am subscribed to the news app only and it sometimes won't let me see the stories I emailed customer support and they were useless. I ended up unsubscribing and resubscribing but it happened again. I figured out for some reason the app keeps me logged in but I have to restore my subscription like I would if I would have switched phones. Also, with the new update, ads are everywhere regardless of your paid subscription and crashes way more.

Christine Geovanis

Appalling Incapable of recognizing me automatically as an actual paid digital subscriber. Counterintuitive, buggy, frighteningly clunky.

Cathie Duff

Getting better! I was an early adapter and am really liking it now! The load can be very long - which I know has to do with bandwidth - but if the screen could display a Hang On We're Getting There it might deter me from closing out out after a couple minutes.

Scott Baker

Every use it crashes and is slow For a paper as big and good as the Tribune to have an app this bad is embarrassing. Tribunes app is too poor to be able to read the tribune content. Response rates from servers are unacceptable and app is so unstable it crashes multiple times each use. This is a paid subscription too. Offensive! Use a normal web browser until they decide to invest in an app not made at some high school. ...or read a paper that is further from the grave.

Stephanie Lear

Technical Difficulties The layout of the app is fine, easy to use, but is always abruptly crashing on my samsung tablet and won't even open on my LG phone. Seems to me like the tribune doesn't really care about the app experience, because they also send out a daily email with a link to a webpage, which my parents use, but seems like a really weird way to get news to me

Steve Slivka

Frequent Crashes Nice design but crashes trying to download too many ads and content. Rarely a pleasant experience. Are you trying to get readers to go back to paper? See the NY Times app for how it should be done.

Brandon Barton

Mostly works Problems with the pay for articles: some you get free some you don't which is confusing. But works fine overall

Evelyn Sanchez

Tf Gives me limit number of stories to w read a month thats bs

David Zawrotny

Chicago Tribune Slow, slow, all the ads make it slow, slow.

Gary Bryant

Keeps stopping for no apparent reason. Lousy app.

Chad Christenson

Layout is good, but crashes too much.

Douglas Hoffman

Stale news and slow

Dan H

Freezes Up It is bad enough that the app is very slow to load. It also freezes up on a regular basis.

William Garvy

Chicago Tribune application Great writing, especially the op-ed section, but the application crashes frequently. I suspect the seemingly never ending advertisements, which oftentimes fail to open, might have something to do with this problem.

Madeline Field

Essential but lacking This app is great and essential is you live in Chicago but the push notifications are so frustrating! When you pull down on the notifications to read the whole headline, instead of showing you the rest of the text it allows you to save the article for later. Saving might be nice if I knew what the actual notification said!

Mike Furey

Good content. Below avg app. Content is good. Convenience is good. App crashes 2-3x per week. I'm a daily reader. Ads and trackers seem to be causing slowness. For what I pay monthly, this should be ad free.

Ken Wirth

3 articles and your out! On average I'm able to open and read 3 articles... Then the dreaded error message "unfortunately Chicago Tribune has stopped". No big deal right? Wrong! To pick up where I left off (kicked off) I have to start at the beginning, time consuming and frustrating. BTW I'm paying for this, I should have my head examined. PS: why so many Ads in a paid App?

Peter Glaser

Meh Useful app if you have a subscription. Ads take to long to load. Alerts rarely open to the linked story.

Alan Nicholls

New version very slow and frequently crashes. Also a data hog using at least 10 times the bandwidth it was using previously.

Patrick Donahue

Used to be a great app, but since the latest upgrade slow and locks up constantly. The advertising content slows the app way down and causes loading problems. But hey, that is business and it is more important for the Tribune to advertise than it is to produce a good product. The slide continues...

Greg b

OK, but needs work. With their dying delivery service, the Trib should realize they need to step up in the digital age, and make this app best in class. There are no menus with content sensitive options, like 'Find on page'.

Allen Peoples

Loading...loading... I would have uninstalled this thing right away if it weren't my local paper. I get almost all my news from The Guardian.

Lee Stral

Disappointing Ads slow page load. Can't customize topics. Nowhere near the topic coverage of web site. Drains battery

A Google User

Disappointed with new version I once gave the app 5 starts. It has become far too slow, with lag times for certain articles stretching into the minutes while other articles fail to load entirely.

Nice when working but... Randomly and sometimes frequently freezes and shuts down, returning to home screen on an LG G3. Very frustrating.

Chris Peterson

Have subscription, . Limited access Should hand full access, logged in, still limited?

Sheldon Lyke

Does not recognize digital subscription I have a digital subscription which allows subscribers to view the entire paper on the web. However, this app does not acknowledge the digital subscription. This is a total waste.

Gregory Gauthier

Pretty decent layout, seems to work well

Paul Husemoller

Embarrassing for Second City's best paper. Worst. Why can't they make a decent app. Slow, buggy, video ads start automatically, ads cover article text. This is just the broken stuff. There would be otherwise plenty to improve. Embarrassing for Second City's best paper.

Lalit Desai

Good source for information This app is a good source for news without a lot of razzmatazz. I have a feeling that the app is still going to go through further updates to make navigation pleasent. Please do not overkill by fancy stuff. " K I S S "

Dan Rest

Clumsy, unreliable This app, like the Tribune web site, is completely unreliable. It's prone to freeze up or simply not open about half of the time. Very disappointing to this loyal subscriber.

Steve Slivka

Awful I can't believe I still pay for a Sunday subscription to the Trib just to get on-line content that locks up my phone. I guess when the Editorial Board does their knee-jerk GOP endorsement for Trump (exceptions for Obama in 08/12), I'll be pushed hard enough to rid myself of the Trib and this app.

Charlie Moran

The content is great but this app is horrible! As a paid unlimited subscriber, I cannot accept that when I read articles, video ads just autostart and blare out of my phone's speaker! This is ridiculous. I call customer support for the app and basically their overseas tech said that there is no way to stop the ads, even for paid subscribers. Gonna cancel the whole thing - this is crazy!

Rich Westman

Stability Improvements? Your "stability improvements " haven't improved much stability. Perhaps running the ads at a lower priority might help. Testing would be a good idea, too.

Ron Nagy

Data Hog News content is very good but I stopped using it when not on wifi after noticing my data usage was creeping up. It's all due to this sight and coincides with more embedded ads. It shuts down unexpectedly too. I'll look for another source for Chicago news.

David Flynn

Ads block pivotal parts of each story I try to read.

Michael Lang

Good reporting, awful user experience Enjoy the reporting but the app continues to deteriorate with each new release. Can be a data hog, very slow navigation and crashes often. Time to scrap this this app and start fresh.

David Marsh

Great! Easy and beautiful

Ryan Fortman

Why do the ads auto play sound? This is completely unacceptable.

Bob Krawczyk

Try harder! Darn thing restarts at least once a day while I am actively reading articles! Slow pages too.

Edward Kozina

Freezes up sometimes

Frank W. Nagorka

Works well I have found that it works and works well.

Andres Valle

Good news, bad app I like the news that I get on here but the app is a disaster. I am subscribed to the news app only and it sometimes won't let me see the stories. For some reason the app keeps me logged in but I have to restore my subscription like I would if I would have switched phones. Also, with the new update, ads are everywhere regardless of your paid subscription and crashes way more. Update: not only do you have to deal with ads but now they are video ads that don't load so you get a surprise voice randomly. Terribl

C Chen

There are more and more ads in the app. Now it even has video and audio. It is just too intrusive. I am a paying customer to the digital edition. Now I am uninstalling the app. And I will cancel the subscription.

Suzanne Slivka

Crash Tribune Great content, but terrible app that takes a LONG time to load articles and consistently crashes. The worst news app I have and not improving. Can't believe advertisers are paying to be on this app unless they have never used it. Only way it will get better is if advertisers complain as the Trib obviously ignores it's paid subscriber experiences with their app.

Thomas Morrow

Like most others here, the app keeps prompting me to subscribe even though I am already subscribed. I've put up with it for a few weeks but it's just too annoying. I'm canceling my subscription. Hopefully the trib will hire better developers or consultants to write their apps. This is definitely causing them to lose subscribers and revenue.

Jim Ferguson

Buggy, crashes often Unstable. Does not remember me as a paid subscriber.

A Google User

Good content, miserable app The app is slow and unstable. It frequently hangs for 15 seconds. The data consumption is getting out of hand, mine used 1.5GB of data in two weeks.

Evan Djikas

Great content but not the best technology.

Erika Schechter

Keeps losing login/password Keep getting message that am on limit for free stories and have to log in again (have unlimited subscription). No comment functionality. I've pretty much defaulted to just using browser instead of app.

Dave Petersen

Reading History By the time this app loads you are no longer reading the news, you are reading history. I can't understand why the headlines take forever to load. Half the time I end up just closing the app. So Frustrating!

Antoinette Plescia

Slow App is slow. Most likely because if advertisements

Slowwww Takes forever for stories to load.

Byron Atkinson

Trib App fails all to often. Fails to login back in with the payed account info, even though it is set as default. It allows the user to change the order of the sections, to meet the readers wants. Nice feature.

Richard Kaffka

Weak Coming from an alleged hi tech source, so many issues. Can't cut and paste from a tablet, migrating sections causes app to restart. Unsatisfactory

Michael Kolodziej

Slow cumbersome It's slow and cumbersome

Judith M Leavell Jarrells

Convenient! It's easier to navigate than the paper. Pretty good app so far.

Daniel J Educate

Good app overall but the android version doesn't have a Cubs section

Sruthi Samraj

On the go! Good for Chicago news. News alerts are great.

Corleen Slowinski

Awesome Awesome

Jason Howard

Rarely updates, frequently crashes This app has issues with updates. I have 10+ hour old news on the front page. Also, I get alerts in my notification bar but get an error message when I try to access the article. Articles recently posted to the webpage do not appear in the app. So much for my digital subscription.

Jim Glennon

Trib is easy too bias Other than Kass, the whole paper leans way left, I'm looking for balance

Kenneth Mantel

Average at best Takes to long to load.

Edward Hatfield

It is very slow and stops often.
