The official Cap Metro App offers customer quick trip planning tools, online ticketing, real-time arrival information and other great features to make riding easy. It is the first app of its kind to offer mobile ticketing in the Austin area and one of the only in the country. Whether you’re at home, on the go or on the bus, pull up the app to access the Trip Planner tool and easily buy tickets. Not sure how to get there? With schedules and route maps offered in the Cap Metro App, you’re only a click away from your next trip.

Compatibility:
-This app requires Android 4.4 or higher. We recommend using Android 5.0 and higher to take advantage of all the app features.

App Features:
- Buy tickets for Local, Premium or Commuter services. Eligible customers can also purchase MetroAccess and Reduced Fares.
- Trip Planner feature plans a customized itinerary based on your starting and ending locations. Save favorite trips for easier planning.
- Schedules available for all routes in the system. Real-time available for MetroRapid and MetroRail services.
- Route Maps viewable by service and route number.
- Next Bus features allows you to find the next bus near your location.

If you use a Reduced Fare ID Card, you must first visit the Capital Metro Transit Store (located in downtown Austin at 209 West Lavaca, open Monday – Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm) to have a Capital Metro representative activate the reduced fare purchasing option on the app. Students looking to purchase reduced fares on the app must first complete the Reduced Fare ID Card eligibility process and then have a Transit Store representative activate the reduced fare purchasing option.

If you are a MetroAccess customer, you can register to purchase MetroAccess passes on the app by calling MetroAccess at 512-369-6067. Please have your client ID number available and email address used to register your account.

A crashes constantly Getting stranded when you've paid for your ticket is fun! App crashing constantly makes this completely useless. Seems like it's been an issue for awhile and hasn't been fixed.

Constant crashing will leave you stranded This is the worst app I've ever used. It constantly crashes when trying to add any purchased ticket to the activation queue. It's left me stranded when bus drivers wouldn't let me ride multiple times. Every time that it stops crashing for a while, it breaks my trust again. No amount of force quitting, clearing data, clearing cache, uninstalling, or rebooting the phone will make it work. It used to be that I might be able to rely on rebooting, but even that has stopped working with the latest update.

Ok, but the Scan Code never works I've been using this app for over 2 years now for my daily commute. It's gotten more stable now. But I recently upgraded to the Premium tickets so I could ride the Metro Rapid and the QR Code never scans. I open the code, I move it closer, further, portrait, landscape, clean the screen. Not even a fail-beep from the scanner system. Multiple bus scanners tried, different buses, nothing. It never reads my phone. I've seen countless others use their phone, I've even assisted a few people getting their phones to scan. But mine never does. The drivers on Rapid give me a lot of negative attitude about it. I've tried just showing them the color-change tap, but they don't want to bother looking at that. They let me ride, but act like they're doing me a Huge favor. Hey, I paid for my monthly pass so it should work without embarrassment.

Couple of glitches Overall, love the app. I like being able to scan the phone as my pass. I love being able to purchase passes ahead of time. My only issue was passes not being accepted on the day of purchase. Maybe it was a problem with the scanners or my phone but, it shouldn't happen.

Won't install on new note 4 Was working reasonably well on old note 4 and then I got a new one when the old phone stopped taking a charge. App won't install now.

Started crashing consistently when activating a ticket. No apparent way to fix the problem. Without tickets, the rest is just a glorified website. Your tax dollars at work! Update: disabled lastpass auto fill settings for the capmetro app, which appears to have resolved crash issue.

Improving in stability This app continues to improve, and has been stable for me recently. The metro rapid buses definitely have a bit of trouble finding the qr codes, but it's better. The screen does what it should now and fully lights up on the qr code to help with scanning. NFC, might not be something bad to look into either.

Disabled app in last pass, now works It was falling every time I'd try to activate tickets. Discovered Last Pass was the cause after reading suggestions by the developer to other reviews. Still requires me to sign in to Google account again when returning to the app causing a delay in loading tickets. It's quick but not fast enough for some bus drivers. Almost got stranded downtown because of this.

Doesn't do what it's supposed to The constant crashing, I can ignore. But when a ticket that shows as valid on my phone returns an invalid ticket error on the bus? Fortunately the driver waved me on "- happens all the time" he said. Good stuff.

Stored tickets? After installing the app, I purchased a ticket which was saved to my device. I had trouble with the app freezing so I uninstalled and reinstalled it. Now the app shows the ticket I purchased as locked to the device I purchased it on - which is the device I'm using. I would also like to be able to buy a one way fare with the app.

Great app I haven't had any problems with it. I moved to Austin for a job and this app has been great. I had never used public transportation bafore so it let's me know when the bus will arrive and what bus to take. It has never crashed. It's nice to be able to buy a ticket on your phone once a month and not having to carry a ticket around.

Great App! Even the e-card works great for me I used to ride the bus to work every day and used this app daily but during the winter I haven't been riding, cars are warmer than bus stops. I'm reinstalling the app because it was so nice to have before. I had no issues buying new cards or accessing my bus pass or PIN or anything. Now if it could just hold a bus for me if I'm running towards it!! LOL

Mostly fail. It's useful especially not having to carry extra change after their recent fare hike, but I've never had a app crash more than this one. It's most inconvenient when a bus comes, and the driver is having to wait for me to show my ticket.

Works well for schedule info, but keep enough cash on hand for a pass if you use it for a e-pass. Update 2/26/15: After latest update, app crashes every time I attempt to open it. DO NOT USE THIS FOR E-TICKET. At the very least, carry spare cash. Worked fine for a week, then logged me out and gave me only white when I tried to log in again. I reinstalled, and now it tells me my 31 day pass is only available on another device. I won't be purchasing anything in it again anytime soon, but it's fine for looking up departure times.

YMMV Boarding experience is only consistent if you are taking a MetroRapid bus or MetroRail because of scanner. Taking a traditional bus? Use a traditional ticket. Bus drivers each have a different way to validate your boarding ticket on the app which can hold up other riders who then of course get cranky with you. SMDH

Unstable app I spoke with a capmetro rep. App times out after 20 minutes by design. A good app never times out. An app needs to stay open till you close it. Add exception in your task killer. Having to reenter your pin is bad, reentering your email and password is worse!!! It is best not to have your pass on the phone. Just have a regular pass in your pocket. Will not have to worry about timing out. Whoever wrote this app is a chump

Useless Paid for a Week pass, $15, not a cheap price by any means, half of what used to be the rate for a month pass. After payment processes, the app crashes, then when I try to reaccess it, it continues to crash every time I attempt to log in. And now I can't even get a refund on the useless thing.

Any way to save favorite places? It's hard to imagine a transportation app that doesn't let you save favorite places, but that seems to be the case. Possible? Also often when I back up or escape out of a screen, the previous screen is re-initialized rather than remembering my entries from a moment ago.

Feedback So there should be a way for riders to confirm if the bus is actually departing when the app says it is. I have just sat at stop #4415 and had the app say two buses were going by and no bus has come. Its been over an hour! I would like to update you through this app.

Needs improvement. So it's a decent concept for those who don't always carry cash, however it needs a bit of work. It logs out often which means you need to re-sign in to see any purchashed tickets. Other times it doesn't let you sign in so you have to keep hustling to get your tickets back. Plus the app is a bit slow in comparison to how quickly you need to get on the bus. Besides these kinks, I really do like the concept. Keep on working guys!

Love Buying a Ticket Using the App Reading some other reviews about ticket issues, I recommend now signing up via facebook. I do a normal sign in using my email and haven't had a problem. Being able to easily access tickets is a deal breaker in riding the bus.

Was a good app while it worked But then it really let me down. Bought a week pass and halfway through the week the app would not let me login as soon as I stepped foot on the bus (via Facebook which I had created the account my pass was registered with). Could never get it fixed again. Needless to say, you can't ride the bus for free. Sorry I wasted my money on a pass through this app as it is extremely unreliable.

The only real use for this app Google App is ridiculously better in giving you bus routes and Times. That being said, the real and only purposeful use of this app is to purchase bus tickets. Simply show the bus driver your phone. So easy. So wonderful. No need to worry about those paper cards or coins anymore.

Great Strides This app has improved so much this year. It has changed the way I get around town. The real time updates are amazing! When it first rolled out, there were a few bugs. If you gave up on it then, give it another try! Not 5 stars only because navigation can be a little opaque. Looking forward to what comes next.

Highly disappointed I got this app solely so I could buy a day pass. Unfortunately, the app crashes every time I try to activate it, and it even managed to assign the pass I initially bought to a different HTC One? I then had to purchase another one, which I was also not able to activate. I hope I can get these refunded, because I doubt I will ever be able to use them unless this is actually fixed. The update notes claim that it has been, but this is clearly false.

Doesn't play well with Last Pass Installed on new phone but app would crash when attempting to activate tickets. If you have Last Pass you need to deactivate auto fill for this app to correct the problem.

Too many bugs with this latest update Just a heads up. The last update has so many bugs you need an exterminator. The app was working fine before the recent update. Now, every time I try to "Activate" a ticket that had already been used after purchase, it gives a new expiration date. Everything's I open the app after use on one bus to display to another, I get a black screen which I have to then close the entire app down to populate the ticket. I have done all troubleshooting steps, so this is a programming error. Please fix it or go back to th

More crashes in latest update. The only difference I noticed in the latest update is the increased crashes. I never have to close the app. It crashes before I get the chance. Features like "next departure" that are very time sensitive should work flawlessly before adding new features like PayPal integration.

Manually entering the URL for the Trip Planner proves the URL is correct... works in Chrome and the security riddled browser, but not the "app" that opens the security broken browser. Already-Activated Passes Require Reactivation A lot of other reviews have already mentioned that the app now requires the user to activate a pass almost every time before using it, even when it has already been activated. The result is that it takes 30 - 45 seconds just to successfully board a bus. I haven't seen any indication that there is a fix planned.

It's nice that this exists but man is it buggy and they just don't seem to care. It crashes every time you try to pull up a real time map for a bus and it requires far too many taps to pull up a pass, including acting like it's the first time you're activating a pass every single time. CapMetro needs to get its app game together because this really is something everyone should be using instead of wrinkled money or passes.

Since the last update, the app asks for my PIN whenever using an existing pass (in the past, it only did this when purchasing a new pass). Also, when using an already activated pass, you still get the 'activating new pass' message with a new expiration date listed (though the expiration date doesn't actually change when the pass is displayed.)

Not very mobile friendly for an app Navigation is poor (cannot go up a level on many pages such as schedule details page, requiring the used to quit the app or go to the home page and drill back down); not able to scroll left or right on schedule pages, leaving all stops after the 5th or so invisible on most phones (nor can you reorient your device to change the viewport). The features to find nearby routes and estimated arrival times of vehicles are very nice, but app is geared towards riders familiar with routes and schedules.

Great for rapid bus tickets I used the suggestions of ensuring I created an account with my email and I used WiFi almost every time I bought tickets and everything has worked well. Still issues with the app crashing while using trip planner. Usually helpful though

Reinstall required for pin use After an update including the pin feature I was unable to make purchases or access settings because the app was asking for a pin that was never set. After making a new account it still occured. Had to reinstall before I was prompted for a pin. Then it worked. Otherwise, works fine. There should be an FAQ about pins and an ability to reset them remotely.

Features not working / Locked passes Had the app for 3 years. There's been some improvements, however there are several features with broken links, and the Next Bus one is not precise. Often the bus disappears from the map. Also, I tried reinstalling the app in the hopes that would fix it, and now my month pass is GONE. You heard right. I still have 2 more weeks of service on my pass and I CAN'T EVEN USE IT. Good luck trying to reach out Cap Metro!

Glitchy Stopped using this app over the summer; when I started using it again two weeks ago, the real-time tracking map started showing up all jumbled up and unreadable. Honestly, real-time tracking is the only reason I don't use Google maps instead of this app.

Just loaded the app onto my Android phone, and was going to buy a day pass, but I can't add a Payment Method. I filled in all the blanks on the page and . . . nothing. It doesn't give an error, but there's no button to click on other than the DONE button on my phone, which did nothing. UPDATE: I'm amending my review to four stars. After I got to my desktop, I was able to input my Payment Method. The problem seems to be that on the phone it asks for the expiration date in MM/YY form, so I entered only the last two digits. But per the desktop, it actually needs a four-digit year. Would be nice if that bug got fixed. After working through that, though, I was able to buy my day pass and successfully get on the bus twice by clicking to change the screen color--cool! I was also able to see route info fairly well, as much as can be expected on a tiny smartphone screen. I will definitely try it again.

Worthless Complete piece of crap. 42 megabytes and still can't view schedules offline. A few kilobytes should be enough space to store the 20 something bus routes and all there arrival times. Fire the developer, start over. It's painful every time i use this crap. EVERYONE VOTE 1 STAR so maybe they'll fix this pile of slug excrement. Still on old version v1.030, to many bad?reviews not going to update I'll stay with the old version.

I tried the CapMetro app for the first time today, on my android smartphone. First of all the app is put together in some circuitous way that forces people who may be about to take a bus to spend a half hour getting nowhere. It asked me to log in, and since I've never logged into Cap Metro before I clicked to sign up, and it let me, then told me I already have an account with that email address and must log in. Like, HOW, for starters. I logged in i nsuccession with my usual passwords and finally one of them worked. Next it wanted me to pick the ticket I wanted, then add a payment method - to the hoagy other service that runs the app and NOT Capital Metro. The page never loaded properly; fields loaded over each other. I eventually managed to fill in all the fields and click "done", as opposed to "next", and the app froze. I tried again and it froze. I'm using Android 4.4, small phone, quad processor and all that. They need to fix this.

Where to start.... Next departure causes app to crash. Every. Single. Time. Consistently have to activate already active tickets. Bus drivers don't know what to look for on app ticket, every driver makes you do something different to get on the bus. Consistently have to enter PIN even after putting it in. Don't bother sending a message to Cap Metro about it, they never respond. Very poorly put together app, one of the worst rated local transit authority apps on the app store.

Does Not Work On All Route's Does not reflect all routes when you email them for customer service he tell you to change the settings and even though you change the settings and try all the recommendations still does not reflect the correct route when you call into their tech support to get help they can't even figure it out and then try to send you one unneeded route it would be a simple fix for them to update the correct route update the stop id is not working but they choose no to correct issue

Cloud feature is worthless We store our ticket on the cloud because my wife and I use it. We never use it at the same time. Usually it's hours apart. My settings are even set to cloud storage as default. But every time I need to use the ticket, I get a message that says the ticket is stored on my wifes phone. So I can't use it. My settings get automatically changed to device storage, and after changing them back. I have to wait hours and hours before I can use it on my phone. This feature is completely useless. Go physical instead.

Doesn't work When you put in credit card information, you are required to put in month, day and year your card expires. The majority of credit cards only have a month and date so it will not go through. Worthless. Also agree that it continuously says your ticket expires a different time. The older v r sion was much better.

Cloud Ticket Storage Is Hosed When I try to change a ticket to be stored in the cloud, I get a blank dialog box with an OK button. And a lot of other reviews have already mentioned that the app now requires the user to activate a pass almost every time before using it.

Broken, can't use I got this mainly for the trip planner, but I've had a glitch for months where I go to the trip planner and it gives me an error message because it's just a wrapper for the web site and it's trying to go to the wrong address. So I just go to the Cap Metro site in my browser and do what I couldn't do on the app.

Expiration date for payment is very buggy Really doesn't inspire confidence in my credit security when the payment system to handle my credit card is so buggy. The only thing visible to me was the day of the month. I had to guess by clicking all over the screen to get the month and year correct. Not great.

Web page down Found out Need version 5 on Android to work. Many of inexpensive phones can not upgrade to 5. To work, on top screen Notification press the BELL figure and then it works. Very Very unhappy with this App. Looks like CM works for the phone companies if you have to buy an expensive phone.

Drivers' Update I buy Premium tickets and then when I board the Local buses the drivers waste my time to make sure I got the correct pass. Listen up drivers, all passes work on the Local buses and make you not to need to check which one I got.

Since the last update, the app crashes when trying to scroll through the list of upcoming buses. The app also asks for my PIN whenever using an existing pass (in the past, it only did this when purchasing a new pass). Also, when using an already activated pass, you still get the 'activating new pass' message with a new expiration date listed (though the expiration date doesn't actually change when the pass is displayed.)

This version seems a bit broken in places I use this app every day and its nice and convenient but noticed sime broken things. The most notable is that, at least on my phone, the app no longer shows the correct bus paths on the maps when searching for your line or for options to grt to where tou want to go.

Needs major fixes Once I have activated my ticket, I can't go back to the main menu (say to check the Next Departure or read any alerts) without the app crashing. Also, I have to reactivate the ticket every time I open the app. Needs major fixes.

Bus Pass Never Works The idea is awesome in theory- I can buy bus passes on mobile and use a card to pay. However, it only worked the first time I ever tried it; every time since, passes I buy scan as "invalid" even when activated in advance and not expired. Did this both on my old iOS phone and on Android.

Well Done This app makes it very easy to ride Capital Metro. No need to fumble around for change. Just show the driver the virtual ticket and you're ready to go! Well done Cap Metro. On a side note, the "favorites" feature, whereby one can save a specific trip, needs some tweaking. Also, once a ticket is activated via the app, it would be nice if the "active ticket" tab would remain on the main page permanently instead of having to "activate" the same ticket every day.

Pretty good app The FAQ is great, except it doesn't mention kids and pricing or the rules, like what can be brought on the bus..i.e kid bikes, strollers, etc. Parents need to know this before using the bus and some people are completely new to public transit.

Somehow worse than before? The new UI animations are jarring and add little to the experience. The app layout has remained largely the same but there's a faux "Material" feel to the everything now. I just try to keep the app open on an activated ticket to avoid the whole experience.

Worthless I wish I could give 0 stars. Tried a simple route from my house to UT... No options. The map looks horrible. And worst of all, could not even locate my current position. Google Maps doesn't have that problem so not my phone. And yes set the permissions.

Works really well, but has small flaws. Honestly I was expecting the worst from all the reviews I read. It's honestly not that bad. I've had one issue buying a ticket where it would throw an error (I just had to try again), and one issue where the bus scanner didn't accept my code for the entire day. All I had to do was show the bus driver the app.

Sux! It says plainly- capital metro is not responsible for any inaccuracies in the information provided by this app.- if y'all aren't responsible for YOUR app, then who is? And the times on the app's nearby departure feature never line up with the actual stop time, so I was late more than once. You'd do better getting a paper map... i would give 0 stars if possible.

Improved I have been using the application for about a year. The v1.0x updates were welcome. It has made the layout cleaner. Credit card entry bugs are fixed. Error messages now instead of unexplained bugs. Many new features are available, like Maps and a trip planner that are worth using. Problems: Certain menu actions are unclear, like whether to press a menu item, swipe a menu item, or click a seemingly-but-not-actually disabled icon at the right of a menu icon. The menu animations are unnecessary.

Does not work on train, crashes constantly Unreliable at best. Have had to pay cash for bus rides even though I buy a monthly pass because the app won't open. Info on arrival or departure times is never updated if they are having issues. Not sure why they're pushing everybody to use something that fails so much

Fix the next departure! The times for next departure are almost never right. Busses just don't show up sometimes and I bake in the heat for 20 minutes waiting for the next one.

Before the update, I loved this app. Since the update, I'm not able to purchase a rail ticket, despite having my payment method info stored in my profile. I called the customer service line and they were very helpful. Unfortunately, none of the advice they gave could solve the problem. I've restarted the phone, deleted the card info and re-entered it; all with the same results. On the plus side, I still have my monthly bus pass.

From bad to worse In the two years that I have used it, the cap metro app has been buggy and frustrating, mostly due to my cloud tickets freezing if you switch out of the app and the obnoxious load times. These problems were annoying, but workable. Since the update, it has gone from annoying to unusable. After logging in the app refuses to load. At least the layout is nicer, I guess.

Material update: Feature rich, complicated It takes some getting use to. There are a lot of ways to visualize the data and get the info you're looking for but it's not immediately obvious. The previous version had it's problems but was much simpler. It would be nice to have the simple UI with the ability to enable advanced options for power users for when I'm looking for more. Normally just need to know minutes till the next bus and current UI requires too many taps to get the simple info.

APP NEEDS WORK Once a purchased pass (i.e. monthly unlimited pass) is activated, it should remain active until it expires (i.e. for a full 30 days). Having to constantly reactivate a pass on a daily basis (or multiple times a day) is very, very annoying, aggravating and time consuming. Please fix this. Also, when I try to pull up a route map, I keep getting the following message: "CONNECTION ERROR. Cannot complete this action without a data connection." And yes, I do have a 4G data connection. Won't work on WiFi either.

Before the update Before the update, I enjoyed the app. It helped a lot. Now, after the update, its crap. I can't buy a week pass, a day pass or anything. My payment method is saved and everything. Ended up losing my weeks pass due to the whole locked situation and had to find a way to take money out of my account to pay for a bus pass. That's ridiculous. Only thing it has use for, after uninstalling and reinstalling, logging in and out multiple times to try and fix, is telling me when is the next bus. So $22.50 wasted...

Trip planner badly unusable Trip planner always says "your input is incomplete" on typed-in addresses and 'current location' button results. Typing addresses is required because the input fields do not accept pasting from the clipboard. Use Transit app instead. Still giving it one star because the ticket purchase looks like it might work.

Newest version is crap metro. Downloaded the new update a few days ago and logged in today to see when the next bus was coming but apparently the only function of the app that was worth using was to good for crap metro so they destroyed it. Now if I want to find out when the next bus is coming to a stop near me I have to know exactly which stop I want to look at instead of just looking for the router I need amongst a list of nearby stops then when I find the stop I need I'm giving a list of way too much information. Worst update ever.

Too much work to get to your ticket It's embarrassing to stand next to the bus driver while I jump a million hoops to get to the ticket. That is my only complain. But it's a HUGE ONE.

This new update is awwful!!! It is hard to navigate confusing to read, and impossible to find the stop and/or route you are looking for. It was fine before. I don't know why anyone would have approved this new updated version.... if I am trying to catch a bus, I don't have time to figure out where my stop is or what time it is coming with this app.... by the time I find it in the app, the bus u was looking for has already came and left while I was looking for it.

Downgraded features Usually when a new version of an app debuts, features are added, not removed. If you want to know when buses will be arriving, you now have to depend on CapMetro's wildly inaccurate projections since the app no longer displays the gps location of vehicles. At least before, you could get a real idea from where the bus last pinged the network. New displays are also amateurish compared to old ones. I could find a couple of random UT students who could write a much better app in their spare time.

Used to be fine I've used the previous version of this app for over a year with no problems. Since the recent big update it has been absolute crap, doesn't have the correct bus times fairly often and isn't very intuitive to navigate. Wish they would just roll back to what it was when it worked. I didn't even mind it closing itself sometimes, that was way better than not having the correct times for some routes. I'm going to start driving again even though it's more expensive

I'm going back in time! I've been using the Capital Metro app for quite a while now and yes, the old version had its problems. But with the recent update? It's horrible! I was just trying to use Trip Planner to see when I could catch a bus and I selected "Arrive By 5:00pm". The app told me to catch the bus at 4:45pm and I should reach my destination at 4:38pm. So, apparently Capital Metro is a time bus now? I'm constantly having problems with this update; it's supposed to be all about convenience, but it's not very convenient.

Revised on August 12, 2016 Email sent to CapMetro regarding this issue. Anyone else having these issues? This app is not working like it used to. When I want to look at the SCHEDULES option, I keep getting the error: "Cannot complete this action without an active data connection". I have even uninstalled and reinstalled the app to see if that would help... to no avail. Regardless of whether or not I have the Wifi on or not, I have a good LTE connection also. Whether or not I'm on the move or at home I get the same results. Also the SCHEDULES section will then freeze. This has only recently started happening in the last few weeks. It's NOT MY PHONE! Because it worked in the SCHEDULES section before with no issues.

Too Much Info The app looks much better, but that's about it. I never used the trip planner (I just use Google maps, works just fine) but the next departure feature needs a ton of work. I like the idea of the "compass" which helps with finding stops but somehow there is too much information and too little. The app shows a ton of routes, on a map which is something I don't need, and we no longer have an estimate of when the next bus is coming/list of routes from the stop. We need to know how much time we have
