Blar is a client for NewsBlur (an awesome web based RSS feed reader). It's simple and clean, allowing you to easily read your feeds on your Android device while syncing read and saved items with NewsBlur.

Supports intelligence filtering, too.

By default, only unread items are shown. This can be changed in the preferences menu.

This app is open source. You can find the source at, though distribution of APKs is prohibited.

Blar is no longer supported, I can be reached at: [email protected]

Excellent Works as expected, design is decent and is sufficiently integrated into ICS! I'm happy that there is a Newsblur app at all, but this one is good and open source! 5 stars.

Kevin Roof

Good app could be great You have to use this app as the official Newsblur app is broken and useless. Would give 5 stars if longer titles were not cut off and if titles were readable under the dark theme. The link blue color was a bad choice.

A Google User

Incorrect login It keeps telling me 'incorrect login' even though I know it's not.

A Google User

Love it Great reliable app. Can't wait to see support for social/sharing added.

A Google User

Flawed Even after updates, clicking story titles often just hangs at a black screen rather than opening the browser. So buggy.

William Reeves

??? Installed. Tried to open. Asks for login & password. Hmmm? I don't have one and there's no way to establish one.

Noel Vivar

Great client The only thing that would make it 5 stars is a "mark previous as read" option while browsing.

A Google User

Issues with slow networks Tends to lose feed list when connecting through a slow connection.

Sam Ferdinand

In comparison to the official NewsBlur app this is ugly and not particularly interesting in terms of flexibility and productivity. ------- First of all, I have to be online to even use it, even if I only meant to change some options or read some feeds I've saved for offline reading. ------ The title for each individual feed item is horribly jerking to and fro from view when scrolling/reading. ----- No swiping to next/previous page?!

A Google User

Promising but not yet really useful When an article has a "read more" link there is no way to get to the full article. This makes the app useless for those feeds. A web view like greader has would be one way of handling that

A Google User

Getting better Still have to mark a lot of items as read twice. More stable. Hoping another update will be out shortly

A Google User

No offline mode? Doesn't seem to allow offline reading.

A Google User

No social? Without social sharing I might as well use Google Reader.

Michael Holmes

Better than the official app

Eugene Bogorad

Not better So why use it?

Avery Jenkins

Useless Hangs constantly

Glad to have it Newsblur is the only real alternative to Google Reader, and this is the only way to use it on Android. I thank the developer. Update: new version much more stable, adds good features. Improving quickly!

Useful feed reader No nonsense simple app, works great after the last update

This is a good basic android app for Newsblur Its useful and certainly better then the mobile site of Newsblur. I would like to be able to swipe to the next item instead to have to press next or previous - this would be enough in order to earn the 5th star from me. :-)

A Google User

No match to newsblur website

Nicer than Reader The new Google Reader interface finally prompted me to look elsewhere... NewsBlur! The Blar android app for NewsBlur is a great, in fact it's better than the equivalent Reader app. Works really well on my HTC Desire HD and syncs with my NewsBlur page.

Improving Great Developer Developer is SUPER responsive. Some bugs but improving! Bottom 1/3 of screen is blank. Moto Bionic

A Google User

Very useful Works really well after some recent fixes

A Google User

Ok It's ok and pretty, but basic. Would prefer to see a litle content preview, not just the title of posts. Does not adapt to tablet sized displays.

A Google User

Google Reader replacement Works well enough for me. I'm off google reader for good, Newsblur is only going to get better.

A Google User

Too basic I've been looking for a good NewsBlur app, but this one is just too basic, and buggy. It keeps telling me I don't have a premium account when I do. There are no ways to mark articles as read except for drilling down into it, and no way to mark multiple items as read. No way to get lists of articles by folder, just by individual feed. Needs a lot of work, especially to charge for the app.

A Google User

Good start ... but offline access is essential.

Craig Berry

Close enough to Reader Since Google announced the pending doom of Reader, I've been looking for a way to replace it. I needed something with both web and mobile interfaces, and which allowed me have a simple hierarchical view of my feeds -- top level list of feeds with unread items, next level list of unread stories in one feed, final level story text. After much trial and error, I have found that NewsBlur plus Blar is a near-perfect fit. Blar is a little unstable at times, but that's my only criticism. Reader refugees, this is your new home.

Anthony Lieuallen

Light on features No mark unread or save, no swipe to next story. Works but I'd prefer to have those options.

Tom Carlson

Klunky but reliable. This is not the prettiest or smoothest app, but it does the job and doesn't crash on my Nexus 7 like the official NewsBlur does.
