ArtRage for Android is a realistic painting and drawing app that includes all the most useful tools from our desktop edition. Along with a full range of awesome, easy to use, drawing tools like the oil brush, inking pen and glitter, it includes a full range of the most important digital art features, like Layers, Fill Tool, Layer Blend Modes, the ability to add Reference and Tracing images while you draw, and of course, our incredibly fun color mixing. All the tools act like real paint, pencil or chalk, and interact in different ways with each other and the canvas texture.

You can also tweak a wide range of real-world settings, like thinners, pressure and loading, smooth out your sketches and inked lines with our auto-smoothing ink pen and pencil, go crazy with multicolored, metallic glitter, or mimic thick impasto effects with the paint tube and palette knife. The app includes a range of default presets for every tool, and you can easily create your own specialized custom presets.

ArtRage for Android comes with the intuitive, familiar ArtRage interface, reliable tech support, and full in-app support for pressure and tilt in the S Pen. Your ArtRage files can be easily transferred to the desktop to finish in any desktop edition of ArtRage. We’re proud of our painting programs and place a high priority on user feedback and stable, bug-free apps that let you create the art you want without having to fight with menus, complicated brush settings and obscure terminology to get there.

Try our free app!

Oil Brush, Watercolor, Airbrush, Palette Knife, Paint Roller, Paint Tube, Inking Pen, Pencil, Marker Pen, Wax or Chalk Pastel, Eraser, Flood Fill, Glitter Tube, Gloop Pen.

Each tool has a range of settings that reflect familiar properties such as paint thinners, or pencil tip softness. Tools apply texture as well as color, and blend under the brush.

Add unlimited Layers to your painting, adjust visibility and opacity, rearrange and merge. ArtRage supports a wide range of Photoshop Layer Blend Modes that let you create effects like shading and highlights in your paintings.

Import photos, converting them to oil for smearing or as Reference Images pinned to the canvas as a visual guide. You can load photos as Tracing Images which are overlaid on the canvas, and have ArtRage select colors from them automatically as you paint.

Also has unlimited Undo / Redo and the ability to store color samples for later use.

- Store ArtRage Painting files in your local gallery and export common image formats to supported apps and transfer options.
- Record your paintings as Script files for playback at larger resolutions in our desktop software

Designed for compact operation at different resolutions and screen orientations. The interface has been designed to maximize your creative space without hiding away critical functions such as tool and color selection. As you paint, it gets out of the way so that you don’t have to stop and manually adjust panels. With support for Multi-Touch gestures for canvas manipulation, Undo/Redo, and Brush Size, important shortcuts are available without needing menus. Also supports Stylus-only mode to avoid accidental finger painting.

Works great but. . . The only thing I would like to see are options to be able to flip/mirror the canvas (not just the layer)-it's always good to get another perspective on things when mirrored.

This is by far the best painting app on android but for the drawing lag: Update: Having used this app for a month now I am amazed at all the painting effects I can get with this app. I have been critical of the drawing lag which does make the app somewhat unusable for drawing accurately - However, I've discovered a workaround where I can do the drawing on Infinite Painter and then import it to ArtRage for its vastly superior painting quality. As ArtRage has such excellent functionality to enable this, I'm increasing my review to 4 stars. If ArtRage can manage to address the drawing lag in future updates this will become a 5 star app and the only app I will need to use on my Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2. I was wondering if the developers could produce an exclusive drawing app to run alongside the painting app to reduce memory consumption when just drawing and thereby stopping the lag? Congratulations on producing a fantastic painting app though and the overall design layout is superb - looking forward to future updates! P.S. Could you also allow us left-handers to move the painting tools over to the right of the screen?

Lori P

Please Fix the Lag I loved using ArtRage on my computer, and I was incredibly excited to see it in the play store now that I have switched over to using a galaxy note tablet for my artwork. I bought it, and I understand that it's new to this platform, but PLEASE fix the lag. There is a very noticeable delay on all of my lines, even when just using the pencil brush. This has so much potential to be one of the best drawing app available, but this lag is making it very difficult to love. I love ArtRage, so please fix this soon! Thank you!

David Jordan

Latest update helped a lot Everything seems to run smoother on my phone now. Love how natural the brushes feel and is the only app I've found that properly blends colors the way they're supposed to.

Zuzka Žilková

Amazing! I've been hooked by this app for weeks! Thank you for offering it as a gift on Galaxy Note 4's! I bought it for my Note 10.1 (2014) as well because I love it so much on my phone. One question: Is there a way to see what size your tool will be as you're resizing it? It stinks to have to keep adjusting the numbers (even with scrolling) and having to guess what size it'll end up.

Alp Deveci

Great and slow... It has great potential but It's one of the slowest paint programs. It''s slow even on Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition.

Duncan Law-Green

Better now NVidia Shield Tablet Previous force-closes on NVidia Shield Tablet fixed in recent update, thanks. Tools are reasonably responsive, and pressure sensitivity works well. Does have a tendency to miss strokes if the drawing hand brushes the screen, though.

Andrew Dusing

Best I have found This is a fantastic app. Still learning how the watercolor paint works (not exactly like using real paint and paper) but truly fantastic. I would like to see the ability to resize, scale, and rorate an image imported to a layer. Also being able to make a selection and then work with in/ paint inside the selection only would be great.

Fox Mulder

Man this is amazing. I love this app. Little sad to figure out there was no way to rotate canvas, but as I understand it, it's because it would hog memory...or something like that. It's not something I would rate it lower though, since everything else is just flawless. I've been hooked on it and have actually got a pc version aswell. I recommend this if you love to draw or would like to learn.

John Anthony

Good but Fall short a bit of full would be better if there was either curves or a set of stencils great reply for feed back thank you

Mike Green

Good could be faster . But I'd really like to see a slim line version of the tool options which just has the numbers down the side of the screen which you can click and drag on like the brush size at the top is currently .

Brian Masterman

Love it Just like the windows version. This is got to be the best drawing app on the market.

Brian Bode

Amazing ! How can one not give this 5plus stars.' Consider The technology and the amazing minds behind the Scenes ! Hats off to the entire team for developing such a fantastic paint / sketch app! Absolutely THE BEST HANDS DOWN!

Skylar Awtry

O.K. It is always like unable to validate license and blah. But it is a awsome app!

Mike Kvaich

Runs smooth Top App Someone here left a review about lag, I'm using this on a sumsung tab3 until i get a note but no lag at all, it actually runs better then any Art app I've tried on a tablet, ok i would have given a 5star if i could hide the top bar too like you can do in the pc version, i find it gets in the way, i hope there will be a future option to hide it so i can have full canvas view to focus on, other then that the app takes time to work out where everything is coming from the pc version to this, but you just learn where everything now is ,but it's really good, well done developer's .

Anthony C

Keeps Crashing Keeps crashing after a few minutes (about two to five mins.)of being open. I use it on a NVIDIA Shield tablet, does that have anything to do with it?

Winter Okami

Love it!!! Works really well with my galaxy note 10.1. Some lag though but it's small. I haven't noticed any glitching either which I'm really glad about. Also, I love the built in reference photo feature. It's such a big help.

Longtime ArtRage fan for PC is loving it. Been waiting for this ever since it was announced. You have to expect that this is a mobile version, so some features aren't available due to hardware constraints. However, almost all the features in the desktop version are available in this version. e.g., Selections are omitted, which is fine since you can actually share the ArtRage PTG files so you can work with them later on in the desktop version. Just about every function that's familiar on the desktop version is available here - canvas settings, layer settings, brush settings, blend modes, etc. An absolutely essential app for those who are fans of ArtRage and use Android.

Teddy Parks

Great! Used this on a PC and had to get it for tablet. It is just as great. My only gripe is that it is laggy but I am using CyanogenMod on a Nook HD+ and I know it is resource intensive. I mainly bought it now for when I get a better tablet. Still going to use it, though.

Steven Whiting

Useless on Nexus 7 2nd gen Pointless due to the lag. You'll draw a line and the program is about half a sec behind, which becomes really annoying and noticeable. Worst still (and it can be argued it's a device issue and not ArtRage fault) ArtRage detects your palm leaning on the Nexus making it even more annoying to draw.

Henry Lu

Good potentials, but laggy Used to be an ArtRage user on PC. When I got my Galaxy Note Pro 12.1, I couldn't wait to try out ArtRage. There are definitely some optimization issues, because even a simple pencil tool is laggy on a octa-core, 3GB RAM tablet. By comparison, S-Note or ArtFlow have no problem keeping up with the stylus when using their own pencil tool, so this is not because of hardware performance, but because of software implementation.

Max Hill

A good start. I've had the PC version of Artrage for a while and its always my go to for traditional media simulation, so naturally I jumped at the chance to get on my tablet. I am glad to say that most of the app makes the jump quite well, just a few things around the edges that I hope will be expanded on soon. I like to work big and exporting my work to other programs (Photoshop ext.), which is where I am running into a few minor gripes. I know that on a tablet my power is limited but I have been using Artflow which allows a 4000 pixel canvas, I hope that Artrage could possibly match or beat that. I have a Wacom Cintiq Hybrid which I think could handle the larger canvas sizes. I would also like to see more options for export and sharing. I know this will come as app is picked up by more users but again referencing Artflow I would like to be able to save in more formates then just JPEG and PNG, and being able to send full size files to apps like Google Drive. Still if you are looking to create digital art on your tablet Artrage is certainly worth the $5.

Wez Bowler

Brilliant! Tesco Hudl2 & Griffin Stylus It works brilliantly with no lag that spoils the experience. With a nice textured canvas & the chalk pen selected it feels like the real thing! I also have Autodesk & Corel's apps installed and ArtRage is by far the best and simply amazing. Of course there's other features we'd all like to see but even without them this is perfect as it is and WELL worth the cheap price tag. Very happy customer.

Tom SF Haines

Too Slow The media simulation is excellent, but on a Cintiq Companion Hybrid its just too laggy - I regularly find myself drawing an inch, or more, ahead of where it is currently rendering. Its basically unusable at this time - potential is there, but performance needs to improve massively. It would help if there was some kind of indication of where you are currently drawing, e.g. an outline of the brush shape that keeps up with the cursor; this would at least allow for precision work. Also, it needs to detect resting hands - it keeps zooming out when I get my hand into position ready to draw! Inability to rotate the canvas is disappointing, and the interface is a bit clunky at points , e.g. number dialogues for entering opacity discourages experimentation. Needs ability to set and quickly recall brush presets - there are a lot of great options in there, but switching between variants of the same brush annihilates work flow right now. Does not support eraser of Wacom pen.

Paul Kercal

Fabulous app. Its the ArtRage you know and love, or should get to know and will love. Any caveats? No. It works brilliantly and smoothly for me on a range of machines (from Hudl 1 to HTC) and, fairly, whoncoukd ask for more..? Ha I will :) hope for script export in the future but this is version 1. I'll happily use it! Eagerly await updates but its fab. Buy it now. Also kudos to Ambient for the low price and no IAP.

Lydia Baker

Excellent, but... Would like to see increased screen resolution, please. Everything seems a bit blurry on my Cintiq Hybrid. Edited: Thank you for your feedback it really helped. Can you save your own presets on the app?

Angela Pascual

Excellent but for two things... I love this app and it's desktop counterpart to bits, but I can already think of 2 improvements for the app. (1) Either allow transparency option in canvas/background layer or (1.5) allow to export the image file as .psd. If the Autodesk Sketchbook app can do both then surely this program, as well. (2) Stencils/Rulers feature on mobile. I love this feature on the desktop version but I can't even draw straight lines on the mobile app as of now. Fix these and I'll give a full 5 ?.

Heather Storrs

Excellent As a long time fan of ArtRage for pc I am completely ecstatic to finally get to use it on my tablet! A dream come true! Excellent when used with a stylus, very natural feeling. All of the mediums from the current pc version and enough of the other tools and settings to keep me hooked. Blows all other sketchbook apps on the market out of the water. Works great, although bit laggy, on my original Galaxy Note Tab, but I have a lot of extra apps downloaded.

David .H

Almost PERFECT!... (Is ANYBODY! there?.)... Has the full screen drawing feature been sorted yet?. Until then, how about a double tap screen option to resize the canvas back to full screen after adjusting/magnifying the canvas for detailed work?...

Daniel Malschaert

Great start but some problems Great to be able to use Artrage on the tablet, I already find it better than any of the other drawing apps! Do have some problems though, I can't rotate a tracing image, and the app doesn't recognize my stylus.

KayLee Gold

Like it a lot so far. A pointer, and circle/shape/line tools would be fantastic but the lack of them is not a deal breaker. ArtRage for the PC is one of most cost friendly art programs I've seen but I've been holding off on buying it until I can afford it. So I was so glad to see they finally released an Android app. So far it's pretty great. It works fabulously on my phone but my tablet may be a bit too old/slow for it as I keep randomly getting the "not enough memory" message no matter how many apps I uninstall or files I delete. However even with the memory messages it will still run on my tablet albeit a tad more slowly.

Dawkins Dog

Disappointed After reading other reviews I was expecting far better, it's very laggy on my Note 10.1 2014, there's no way to rotate the canvas as Sketchbook and Infinite Painter allow, and the smear/smudge just doesn't cut it, it seems impossible to mimick a tortillion for pencil drawing and it seems hit and miss for other media. Add the lack of selections or masking and it just doesn't feel a complete product. I'll persevere now I've got it but am wishing I'd not purchased (especially as it's over £2 cheaper on the flipping Samsung store!)

Radiantsmiler Radiantsmiler

Fun, fun, fun! Your customers reviews sold me on purchasing this app. I love the variety of tools and the opportunity to learn how to use them to improve my novice art skills. One question though, will I be able to create impressionist like art to enlarge and print to display in my home? I' m enjoying this app so much that I surely hope so.

Pui Che

Long time ArtRage fan on PC Fantastic simplicity of the essentials. Doing what ArtRage does best- emulating Traditional medium at it's finest. Slim, Direct and Magical. I am enjoying the Android version so far. I would be even more pleased once this app implements keyboard compatibility. As a Artist, shortcut keys are essential to any work flows. Too many Paint Apps out there that are just for finger paints. This App would be a Artist's dream once the said feature is implemented. Looking at you, ArtRage!

Eddie Del Real

Instant buy!!! I had no idea art rage was in the Google play store (You should demand Google to feature your app in the PlayStore)..... But it's without a doubt the best simulation of painting anywhere. Great app.

J Burgos

Finally a serious contender I love android and iphone equally, but up until now the crown for the best mobile OS for artist was apple's. Procreate, Artstudio, Sketchclub, Inspire and many others were miles ahead from any android option. Sketchbook was the only option equally decent on both systems but the UI is cluttery, and at least on android its not that smooth. On the natural media side, the were no good options (Corel's color mixture sucks as much as Infinite Painter's bugs). With Artrage android art community is on a new level.

Yoon Kit Yong

Very natural Full suite of features which I really like. Paint like behaviour of the paints, excellent smudge effects, canvas textures and layers. Really good.

B Murphy

Best art app This app is my favorite the oil brushes are fare more realistic then any other art app.And the pallet knife is great.

Richard Jachimowicz

Awesome! When changing orientation... The zoom gets reset for some reason. Would love to see rotate at any angle like the desktop version in the future

Lisa Antunes

Good so far Works well on Tegra Note 7 running KitKat 4.4.2 surprised not many folks haven't tried it yet. *EDIT* Crashes in Portrait Orientation @Ambient Design Ltd. yes I did send a few reports as it kept doing it I knew right away the only thing I did different was turn it in portrait orientation tested it quite a few times it wasnt til I started using tools etc that it crashed I will contact by email but not sure what else you need. I did peek at the log it said something about java

Артемий Маришкин

Am I only one, who get crashes at switching from painting to gallery?...

Holly Ryder

Adore it As a professional portrait artist i find this app invaluable for quick sketches. I would HATE to live without it now I've gotten so reliant on it!

Tristan Vaillancourt

Zen I have enjoyed this product on the pc for a few years. I find that blending colors and making abstract bumpy textures to be immensely enjoyable, and educational. Despite not having a good stylus for my android tablet, the texturing hobby of mine is even more enjoyable with my tablet. This software is helping me find my inner artist. There are no other products out there that can rival the ease of use and sheer pleasure that ArtRage provides. Thank you! Yeah canvas rotation ... I know that's a tough one for tablets. No biggy. Just lock the tablet rotation and rotate the tablet!!

Ferretwolf The Fuzzy Animatronic

Very good! But, would like a faster stylus speed! Very good app, has potential. But would be better if it had faster smoother speed when I draw... I hate the lag when clicking delete on layers aswell! There's another app which is faster and has next to no lag. I want to like this app... I really do.

Yordan Tonchev

Good ideas/Horrible execution The application delivers easy to use interface and some really nifty features, but 2 star rating due to the almost impossible to handle lag and no ability to export your work. Using a Toshiba Excite Write tablet, even with a simple pencil tool (and about 1.4 GB of free RAM on the device), there were considerable lag spikes even on a smaller canvas. Overall good ideas and features, but still needs a lot of work

Tanya Provines

I love Artrrage on my Galaxy Note Pro 12.2. However, try as I might, I can not get the reference photo to move or rotate. Any suggestions?

Marika Purisima

Good tool for painting on-the-go ArtRage for Mac has been my preferred digital painting medium for years, so I didn't hesitate to give the Android version a go. While it lacks the pressure sensitivity of the desktop version if used on anything but an S-pen equipped Samsung tablet, the developers have done an excellent job of preserving the natural feel of the original, and the app is a pleasure to use. Like having a never-ending sketchbook and full complement of art materials with none of the bulk, weight, or mess!

Kenan J&K

Very impressed Finally I got this amazing app on my Galaxy note.. this app is one of the most advanced drawing app, one thing I hope to see in this app in the future is 4K canvas size.

Jax van Niekerk

I am impressed. Very impressed with this app. Used it for the first time and the results were beautifull. In what resolution is it saved? Would love to print it on canvas However anything lower than 1920x1080 and it starts to pixelate the moment you print it on anything larger than A4. How about it dev team? I bought it in a heartbeat.

Chillee Linkk

Amazing I'm thankful for this app because it brought me back to my roots which is art I stopped drawing for a while now I'm back to doing more than just drawing because of this app thank you

John Marshall

Best Android art app by far As long as you have a device that can run it, preferably with a pen, this is by far the best art app available for Android.

Cristian flores

It's about time some one else step up. Love it pretty good stuff and it will only get better with updates. One suggestion is please allow for rotation of canvas and this could be the one thing that will make this app sale a lot more. For now my raring is 3.5 stars

Jason Castner

Only 5 stars cause they don't have 10

stephane p.

ArtRage in my pocket! Awesome

Jennifer Tremellen

Great App.Put away the real oils

pedro dehoton

Having used Artrage on my PC,how pleased I was to find it for my tablet. This is the best by far.

Mark Holtkamp

Lovin It! Hope to see more exciting updates in the future!

Stuppul Sugarmoen

Was it always this sluggish? I gave the app five stars at some point, probably when I discovered it for the first time, like a year and a half ago? There are a few apps like this one out there, and like those, they all have something unique about them, which is great. (MediBang, ArtFlow, LayerPaint HD, etc) But I find myself "ragequitting" ArtRage because of how sluggish it feels when drawing - with my Note3 stylus. Not very responsive, which takes away the fun to use it. Hope u fix or re-invent the wheel or something =)

Steven Kleiser

This program is remarkable! The extent to which it considers the physical depth of the paint and the effect a stroke has on its surface texture is impressive. The overall feel of the paint on the canvas is very realistic. ++recommend

Beginner artist. I was looking for a replacement fort watercolors, for you see I am a teenager and can't afford many art supplies, and the watercolor is almost the same as the original tradition supplies. Awesome simulation of real art supplies!

Garry Howell

Best Art App Out There A joy to use, easy to understand and great results. Have been using this for quite some time and getting a great mix of different styles. It deserves more than 5 stars. Thanks.

Al McPhee

At last, available on my mobile Used for some time on my Mac, love it. Error 504, can't apply latest update, tried all steps in troubleshooting. UPDATE: updated fine after the fix

James Davidson

The developer was quick to fix the issue below Error code: -504 on both devices. This bug has been quickly fixed. ☺

Elin Ouchterlony

Updated OK now but still wary that an corrupt update that could have cost me my artwork got through. ?

Mathew F.

Joy for the artist! This app is easy to use and great for any aspiring artist to work with!

Faisal Kodampuli

Very good app I like this

Chris Marlatt

Great app Love this, it's one of two drawing apps that I use, just wish it had better support for nvidia direct stylus 2 technology.

Greg Scott

Another request for the transform tool!!!! Need this !

ben roberts

Be aware this isn't an image editing app it's an art app. Drawing painting etc, no filters or copy/paste. I like it, it's my preferred art app.

J Salazar

Samsung tab 4 Nook Still lags a bit but it is manageable, just dissapointed in the developers for not answering my inquiry. I use it every day, sketch with it often. Great tool for my every day sketching. They can improve on it however. Hope they continue to update.. btw luv the reff pin option, been a software staple since the beginning ; )

Melisha Niles

Love it???❤ My teacher actually needed m to have an art app for art class but I couldn't an I just sat there with all art supplies all over the place but then I found artrage and since then I've been using it all the time for my art class, even for home?

Robin Willis

The best of the best arrives There are a couple of nice drawing and painting apps for Android (and I own most of them) but Art Rage is really without peer. A few reviews talk about sluggishness but I don't find this to be the case. If you create a really big canvas and you try to use a really complex watercolor brush it will take awhile, how could it not? These are phones and tablets not 8 core graphic workstations with a dedicated gpu or 2. No it works great and I have used the program on macs and pcs... Thanks for bringing art rage to Android. We're lucky to have you.

isaac bridle

Restrictions are annoying Use the desktop version a *lot* and it's hands-down my favourite painting software. Android version is hamstrung by the limited canvas size, and the constant licence checking regularly forces me to use another app when I'm not online (and is especially embarrassing when I'm trying to demonstrate the app to other artists).

Great app! This app has every feature I would require in an art app. It works wonderfully. If I were to find things to nitpick, I would say continue working on performance (As said numerous times, there IS some slow down, but nothing so bad as to call this "unusable" like some have claimed), and I think the "Glitter" tool is unnecessary. As stated in Frisky Dingo, "You can't fax glitter." It applies here as it lacks numerous properties of real glitter (As is expected, haha). Replace that tool with something useful. :P

Josh Rosenbohm

Incredible oil painting app. The oils feel great. They blend and move realistically on the canvas. My only request is for more brush heads. EDIT: I had to change my rating to 4 stars because I've had lots of stability issues. I can forgive the occasional crash. But it's hard to accept my paintings suddenly missing layers, looking completely different, or becoming unresponsive. I save every painting to like 5 different files for fear of losing my work.

Aaron Whisnant

The best hands down! I too have nearly ALL of the painting apps of this kind. All of them pretty good... But if you want simplicity, realism, and ease of use look no further. The oils are incredible! I don't understand why this app doesn't have more downloads.

Siddhartha Madhavareddy

Near Perfect Hi Ambient Team, Its been an exhilarating experience using Artrage. However, I am missing transform tool. When I create an object in a layer, duplicate it into another and try moving/resizing it...I cannot do so..Please include transform in next releases. Thank you, Siddhu

Ivan Tullao

A nice painting app! Just a couple of requests though. First is being able to move the reference photo to the right side. It sucks for a left handed guy to get the refs blocked from view. Second, blending modes. Lastly, just enhance the performance as much as possible! It's kinda laggy on my companion hybrid but its tolerable. Could be better though! EDIT it does have blending modes! Awesome! Edit 2 forget it! Just figured out how to move the reference!

Mark Tyrrell

Excellent brushes, though interface is just serviceable I love the brushes, the texture and blending are excellent. I normally use clover paint, which doesn't do as great a job with stimulating physical media. Though there are a few things that would really improve work flow. The first is using the volume rocker as undo & redo, while holding one down would change the brush to a color picker and holding the other down would change the brush to an eraser and switch to current brush on release. Second when using a stylus that has hover support it would be nice to see the cursor show brush size. Lastly it would be great to allow the canvas to rotate with the two finger zoom shortcut. Those features would make this a 5 star app

Matt Bond

Fun but laggy Playing with all the different paint tools is pretty great. Especially nice when doing stuff like smudging and oil paint effects. (Like art rage on pc) However, the lag on input is absolutely terrible. I can easily make a stroke before it's drawn on screen and that feels so unnatural. Also, it somehow 'smooths' input, so a zig zag becomes more of a wave. These really need to be fixed!

nicholas pliatsikas

Massive potential for being one of the best. Natural and painterly brushes are great as per the desktop app. Lift the 2k resolution limit for devices with more ram and power. Pressure remapping for stylus would be awesome, with min, max and pressure curve. The undo stack seems unreliable had one occasion when working on a different layer the undo messed up on a layer below. Oh and have an always onscreen colour picker that you can drag from. Promising app!

It works fabulously on my HTC One M8 and my ZenPad but my MeMo Pad may be a bit too old/slow for it as I keep randomly getting the "not enough memory" message no matter how many apps I uninstall or files I delete. However even with the memory messages it will still run on my MeMo Pad if necessary albeit a tad more slowly. The 2048x2048 size limit is a tad frustrating when I can easily create canvases up to 4000+ px with other art apps but if I must live with it I will.

Joe Marsee

Love this app. There's just one thing... No transform layer option. I know the reason being is that it's memory intensive according to their site but I have a high end device. I'm not wanting to distort the layer, just simply reposition. Which is possible on other Android art programs. Please give us this option out at least give us the ability to download a "memory intensive" version. Otherwise wonderful. Edit: Thanks for the response! Looking forward to this feature. I know you can work it out. Thanks again.

Bob Roach

The drag of lag Loved the UI implementation and the range of tools and options. I've had a few unexpected crashes but I can live with that. Unfortunately, the drawing lag is just too great to work with though. After about a week of trying to get used to it, I'm back with SketchBook (the older version), which seems like a racehorse in comparison. Soooo close to being a real contender!

Michael Sutherland

Best tablet/phablet draw painting app yet I've used ArtRage 2 since 2008 on my Windows PC's using my Wacom Intuos tablet digitizers. I've always enjoyed Ambient's work on this program with one of the best digital pencils ever (beating Corel Painter). This app (as of the date of this review) is almost like using Art Rage 2 on a tablet. I'm using both a Galaxy Note 1 handset and a Galaxy Note 10.1 with the Wacom built S-Pen with Eraser (sadly, discontinued, shame on you Samsung). ArtRage responds to the S-Pen as flawlessly as the stylus on a larger Wacom device. Except for the eraser, which keeps this review from being perfect. There are times when using the eraser side of the S-pen on this app it doesn't work until I touch the pen nib on the screen where it will erase until I remove the pen nib. Once I touch the pen nib back on the screen, I end up having my previous brush back. Minor flaw. My only other complaint was leaving my Wi-Fi network. I fine at home where I was connnected to the Internet, but when I reopend my app away from any network, the license coud not be verified causing problems with the program. Frankly this is my worst complaint.

I use ArtRage on Surface Pro 3 and love it. It's 5* on Windows, one of the best creative applications money can buy. I decided to give the Android version a go on my Nexus 9. Canvas textures are awesome. Paint reaction to canvas are some of the best I've seen and there are many options to tweak and customize tools. Many of the aspects of ArtRage that make it incredible on Windows are present on Android with a few key omissions. I couldn't find a selection tool anywhere. I also couldn't find a way to free rotate the canvas. The biggest detriment though is the lag. ArtRage for Android can lag pretty badly even on the 64bit Nexus 9. It makes the app very difficult to use at times which is why I give it 3*. Add some selection tools and fix the lag with input and ArtRage is a 5* app. *Thanks for the reply, I stand corrected. But what's the word on the lag though? It's pretty bad making the app annoying to use at times. ArtFlow has selection tools, Infinite Painter and Sketchbook for Android have extensive selection tools. Specifically, what's preventing ArtRage from supporting them?

AFTER 15+ YRS THESE APPS STILL DON'T IMPORT/EXPORT PSD?! First, the good stuff: Best Natural Media experience on Android, hands down. I have no idea what the hell those Corel Painter app guys are doing, they blew it. Artrage has the ball in their court on this one. Now the BS: no working layered PSD/PDF/TIFF import/export support here either hunh? For such a nice and capable app, why would a working professional want to save even a basic sketch comp or even detailed layer group to JPG/PNG?!?!? If SBPro can handle PSD, and Corel bombed out miserably on that, why would you guys *not* exploit this capability. WE NEED IT WOULD GLADLY PAY EXTRA FOR IT. This "jpg or png only" thing in these apps is ridiculous now, it's 2016!!!

Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 ArtRage on Windows is a fantastic drawing program. Have used it for years. Glad there is now an Android version. But. 1) large brushes are very laggy, but even small pencil brushes lag a bit too. 2) can't transform a layer, can't move things or rotate on canvas. 3) lack of ability to save a file to a certain spot in the file system. Really need to be able to file drawings in Drive folders. Right now in order to do what I need I have to open the PTG file on my PC version of Artrage to transform layers. But difficult due to the file system not being able to sync with Drive, have to find and move files back and forth manually. Then to reopen on Android tablet have to manually put it back in the Android folder. Tedious.

Artrage is awesome! Artrage is an excellent art app. In addition, the developers are incredibly quick to respond to any suggestions and concerns. I will definitely look forward to using Artrage as one of my main software, if not the primary one. Thank you very much!

Holly Jahangiri

I have deleted most of the other art programs I installed on my phone four months ago - this is the only one I really need. It is easy to use, and it has proven to be a great little portable creative outlet for me. (Not nearly as messy as actual art supplies! No messy clean-up!) A few people have thought some of the paintings were real, not digital.

Chris Hansen

This is the finest "natural media" app I've used. The interactions between the paints and layers is amazingly realistic. I've always been frustrated that this app didn't include features that are common in other digital art apps, but the recent addition of Layer Transformations is a reversal of this trend. The feature is so well done that it elevates this app to 5 stars for me. I still wish the app had features such as guidelines and symmetry. However, if you are looking for realistic painting, this app is the best.

Kathy Whitehorn

Would be rated 4 stars or more but too many crashes Constantly crashes. Have to save every minute or so to avoid losing work and it is slow saving. Crashes mostly using the palette knife. Changed to one star as I have been told by the designers that the problem is with my device, not their software. But SketchbookPro has never crashed on me. And I can't remember any other app crashing on me.

Kel Ch

Motion being slow when I touch the screen it is being delayed response and ref to symtery isn't there a add on you could create so those who want the symtery could buy it with the knowledge of it using more memory

Blending The blending options are laughable. Why can't any art app have a proper blending brush?!

Mark Hiner

My favorite painter I tried sketchbook pro, artflow, infinite painter and others. This app is my favorite as far as actual creativity goes. My only complaint is that I don't see a way to bind functionality to the button on my s pen, and when I use the eraser on my Wacom pen it doesn't actually erase. EDIT: the eraser does work! You tap the eraser and then quickly go back to pen more to start erasing. Binding the toggle button would still be ideal, but I'm very happy with the functionality now.

Fye MJ

Excellent I love it! but I'm soon buying new phone, and I noticed that this application don't need acc or something that can open at any device...or is there any way to move this app to other phone?

Bill Rabinovitch

Great new update Just adding layer Transform puts Artrage on top

julioctt tapia

very good , It Would be even better if it had simmetry tools though.

Really good :) I used to use Colors3D, which is pretty decent, but then I switched to this and its like x5 better, the tools, the presets, the different size canvases, and all of that is just so awesome, 10/10

Dolores Fitchie

Would give it 4 stars, but... It does tend to crash, especially at star. Also, and this is VERY irritating, unless I'm online everytime I start it doesn't recognize the licence, nor do I get the full use of the tools/brushes. In other words, it treats me like I have the free version. I have to go briefly online, let the damned thing talk to itself and settle and then switch off. Can you fix this, please? Otherwise is a nice app.

John Anthony

Better Still could do with guides or stencils transform layer brilliant getting towards 5 star 4.5 at moment thank you

Da Mentalect

Canvas not setting I tried changing canvas and won't work ,goes back to same canvas effects

KeLLie Roberts

Not a fan I am sorry I bought before I could try it. I dont really like it.

John Jax

My go to past time art app The app is awesome, fun to import, trace photos, have pins that are re sizable for reference photos. All around fun to use.

DavidsLili Swindler

Great app The best painting app I've seen by far. Lots of different tools, very realistic textures, different settings for tools. Very nice app, I would recommend it to anyone who likes art.

Mathias Køhler

Slight problem Works well, but the thing is that I bought it for my tablet, which doesn't have frequent internet access, and it crashes because of the connection

Dana Bassinger

love it just like the comp version!

Leslie Sturgess

Register product Cannot use as will not register....please help brought app this morning cannot use

James Kelly

Absolutely amazing I feel hooked. I have a Galaxy Note Pro 12.1 and a Galaxy Note 4 and using this with the S Pen is fantastic on either device. The simulation feels very accurate but despite that it runs very smooth on my hardware. I love that I can practice my art skills to some extent without wasting expensive art supplies.

Beginner artist. I was looking for a replacement for watercolors, for you see I am a teenager and can't afford many art supplies, and the watercolor is almost the same as the original tradition supplies. Awesome simulation of real art supplies! This is the best app for art!

Daniela Toba

Some tools are very slow responsive... I have a Note 5 and enough memory on it.... but some of the tools are lagging.... pls improuve the app...

Sheila Walker Interiors

Getting cross When I started using this app I thought it was brilliant. Best thing ever. Just recently it is all going down hill. Some of the tools have started lagging and it has overall it has become slow. Worst of all it keeps crashing and unless I save my work every second I lose it. What has happened? I should be writing a glowing review with 5 stars. Very sad

Joanne McKinnon

Natural look Brush strokes are very close to real media. I prefer this app for botanical drawings. Some are good enough fo book illustrations.

Al McPhee

At last, available on my mobile Used for some time on my Mac, love it.

Nidal Madi

The best app I ever worked on.. whether using pc with tablet or using ipad... amazing.. love it.. 2 thumbs up

Can't Download Image I want to import the image to my own personal gallery. But there isn't an option to do that. I would like this please because I want access to share my own images without having to through PENUP. The program is great otherwise but this is my biggest issue. Although I appreciate the countless layers I can use.

Abby K

I LOVE THIS APP It has what I want and I can do sooo many things I just wish they would lower the price that would bring it up to a five star

Jake Vosloo

Best painting functionality around. I found it’s possible to keep the full quality files by using the “share painting file” option or copying the raw file from sdcard/ArtRagePaintings. This file can then be opened by a desktop version of Artrage and from there it can be exported to a multi-layer PSD file. The PSD file seems to be the best quality standard file format supported. It lack file versioning because it doesn’t integrate with Google drive or Dropbox, so no roll back to a previous version of the painting.

Incredibly good! Now I only need 2 apps instead of several...this works beautifully on its own or with PicsArt...totally worth every cent and I'd highly recommend to any artist...budding or pro!

Brian M

Credential login is a PAIN. I LOVE the app. However, there are times when I do not have a wi fi connection. Having to figure out where to find one JUST to use the app is a pain in the rear.

Good but I'm trying to make a painting but it isn't working worst thing ever

Elissavet Vinston

The best painting tool I've seen so far. I could not wait to get my stylus. I had to try this version. This might get me to paint again. I have not painted for almost 3 years. Thank you!

Frannycat P

The best out there, Worth the 5 bucks, simple to learn, but nice complicated looking results!!!

Mark Edward Maciel

Rotation Why is there no rotation?

Jon D

Love it. Works really well with the stylus on my Note4.

Dave Watkins

Great app, as well great on PC! I fully recommend ArtRage. Loads of features for a great price.

Janet ZefferJ

Love the effects, works well. Great program

Yashwant Garud

Bad app Infinite painter has more options. I wasted money on this one.

Rob Frydryck

Great for painters Artrage is a superior painting tool with exceptional blending. Though if you want to draw, Infinity Painter has the better pencil and drawing set. Minus one star for Artrage not having two finger canvas rotate.

Linda Martin

Too few directions As a new digital artist, I find this app very frustrating to use. I even took a class but still have too many questions to use it to its fullest. How do we delete incomplete paintings that we dont like? How can I rotate the painting I am going to paint? I have a Samsung tablet so maybe that is part of the trouble. Others who have an iPad we able to bring up many more color choices and palettes than I could. I did pay the $50 for the app and feel it should be more user friendly and work equally well on android devices as iPads.

Zero Lee

3 stars due to this issue. I have a samsung s6, but also a ellipsis 8 from verison. Ive already purchased this app on my phone, but wanted to sign into my account on my ellipsis so i could have a larger surface. But i cant transfer the app. Ive already purchased the full version, on my phone, but i have to repurchase it again even though its on my account on my phone!

Ori Bengal

My favorite art app First of all, people always think I use real oils... But it is often just art rage.. Very realistic natural media. The main reason that this app trumps every other app is because you can paint on your phone, record the script, and play it back at a larger size on your computer. You are not limited to a small screen size anymore. Also, great ui.

Jon S

Art rage is real This app is awesome on my note 5. I'm losing sleep tonight, because I have to paint.

John Doe

Help May I know the reason why I can't erase everyone such as paint.. The only thing I can erase is the pencil. Can someone help me. Thanks. I will give it a five star if it weren't for the eraser problem..

Emerald Angel Comics

Finally got it working I had issues getting it to verify the app while I was offline. Which annoyed me to no end! I read through the instructions on fixing the issues, and applied them, and still had the problem. But, then my tablet updated the whole system and it suddenly corrected itself. Giving you 3 stars for now, until I am more familiar with the product.

DavidsLili Swindler

Hm Minus one star because I can't rotate my tracing images.

Kabi Jedhagen

One major Artrage feature is missing. EDIT: Changing my rating from 4 to 5 stars now that the script feature has been added. There's one single feature that isn't in the Android version of Artrage, that's the script / recording feature. it is however in the IOS version, so I'm guessing it's on its way as long as there's nothing on the Android OS hindering it. Other then that this is a great app, do keep in mind that it is slightly taxing because of how detailed the color blending and brush strokes are made.

Good for sketching... The lack of a selection tool and the inability to select, mask, and transform layers makes this kind of useless for what I wanted it for. It is great for sketching on the go and doing quick paintings however. Fun for portable practice, totally worth $5.

Karl Kalina

Broken Crashes upon opening the gallery, every time. Thus no way to load files. Basically makes the app useless.

Klair 'Rhomany' Scattergood

Just missing one feature Desperately needs a zoom lock. Every time I move my hand it zooms, even with palm detection. Add that and I'll upgrade you to 5 stars.

Vanessa LePauloue

Layers I wish you could move the layers panel and drag it to another location on the canvas instead of it being stuck in one fixed spot that can cover the page your working on...

Mathias Køhler

Yet again it's VERY slow with loading times and such. With every stroke, there's a delay or resistance that sets back the efficient of everything

Vincent Revilla

One of the best. Has issues running from external storage, but one of the best functioning sketch/paint apps out there.

Bocah Banyumasan

Need shortcut How to pick colour without keep changing brush? Example: hold volume button and tap the color

Chas Stewart

FanTAstIC Using this app for around a 1year now, it is just brilliant. I need to get the desktop version that's a must. I'm a professional abstract artist working in acrylics and mixed media, this app keeps me busy when I'm away from the studio if something catches eye I can use the app for reference by painting what inspires me. Just brilliant.

Brooke Jerulle

Simply the best I love this app so much. It's my favorite app in the world. Great for destressing!

Rosa Tellez

In love Started off my first digital art with this app. Simple and gives justice!

Les Byrd

Awesome!!! If you like to draw then this App is it there isn't a better one then this . I love it!!!

Dilcia Vicens

This app would be perfect if... It had layers and you could export/save the file as as PSD. Other than that, it's great. Keeping my fingers crossed on those features.

Rushdi Baharum

Superb E-Painting This is the best and also for professional artist.

Mary Petty

I love this app! I love the oil painting!

DavidsLili Swindler

EDIT Thanks for the help, creators. Keep up the good work!

Stephanie Foltz

Awesome So I got into the whole adult coloring but downloaded this app after reading the reviews. Definitely love this app!!!!

Oliver Kriel

Top Notch Handmade asthetics, looks like real traditional materials. Transform tools are under the layer options.

H Listyo

Splendid Improved my practice...i'm a beginner in drawing

praju dagadu

Best app for painting!!! Its perfect n cool app for artist !!

heather lashbrook

Absolutely love this app!!

Tricia Hancock Floyd

I LOVE THIS APP! Please make a watercolor brush!

Randy Wayne Poole CSS

Really Smooth Works easily, and is worth paying for the upgrade

Cheree Keasling

Great app! Perfect for anyone!

Neil Braun

Gorgeous!!! I'm using this on an Elipsis 10, a low end tablet as far as I know, and it's wonderful. At its maximum resolution, 2048x2048, I start to see some slight lag with heavy brushes, but this seems more to steady my hand than cause problems. I have ArtRage on my desktop as well and this is just as good.

Alex Domin

Great App Has almost all of the features I would have wanted. Shape tools and selection tools do not appear to be present, but the layering tools are handy enough that I have been able to make do just fine. Runs smoothly on current-gen smartphone. Absolutely worth five dollars.

Frannycat P

I had a painting i was working on and suddenly a glitch happened and i lost a huge chunk of progress in my painting, no way to get it back and i was devastaated. That hurt. But otherwise, by far he best out there, Worth the 5 bucks, simple to learn, but nice complicated looking results!!! An outstanding program, I would and have recommended to everyone. You just need some customer service for glitches.

Pamela Campbell

Something is wrong Unable to use at all now!!... applied update and did not fix. Appears to leave trace mode and go to the regular color mode, but everything is still light colored tracing mode, like high lighter... will re-rate when issue is resolved.

Geoff Wigmore

Poor mobile implementation The desktop Artrage is an incredible program but the transition to mobile is just too painfully slow and laggy. While other apps like Infinite Painter and Corel Painter and Sketchbook are lightning fast, Artrage just cant keep up and ends up more frustrating than usable. Very unfortunate. I initially had hopes that an update could fix this but it seems that their paint engine is just too heavy for mobile.

Vladimir Venkov

License issue Can you fix the problem with with licensing, please. Sometimes I can't start the program when I am not connected to internet. This is really annoying. Also it will be nice if it was faster. Other than that the program is great. EDIT: I just changed my rating from 5 to 4 starts because of the radiculous licensing issue .

Cherise Knight

Good It needs more brushes and more abblity to customize a brush. I am struggling to draw with it, because I hate most of the brushes. The blur tool and the pencil is the best, but I can not use the rest of the brushes as I would like to.

Kate M

Love it I use it all the time! I love this app it's very very great with its tools and has everything you could ever need. ((Update)) Its July 26th and I'm still really really enjoying this app if anyone that enjoys art and doesn't have the tools (paints ect) this app is worth every cent. And it's absolutely one of the best drawing art type apps out there great job devs and keep up the fantastic work! (I also tryed the pc version a few years ago and I loved it!!)

Laynie Fingers

A bit hard to figure out at first, but keeps impressing me! I'm always looking for good art apps. This one has quite a learning curve c (for me, at least) but the more I figure out, the more impressed I am. For the money this app is amazingly good!

Kel Ch

Pictures saved disappeared My pictures that I saved have disappeared since the last update please can you fix this problem I saved work that I was still working on!!!

Maitong Uy-Jimenez

Marshmallow upgrade? Upgraded my note 4 to marshmallow, suddenly artrage kept on crashing :c

chris campbell

ArtRage is by far the best drawing/painting app. Had a problem, but got a quick response and now it works great again

Daya Samarasinghe

I buy this app I buy this app it's works fine, but now changing canvas, app restart and default canvas. How to fix it
