Thinking about fast food? 8700 gives you the kilojoule (kJ) facts on over 3,000 products, helps you find your ideal daily kJ figure and lots more info, hints and tips.

Do you know how many kJ are in muffins, burgers, pizza and other fast foods? What about the difference in kJ between an espresso and a cappuccino or smoothies or milk shakes? Fried chicken, pies, fries and more…there are just so many brands, so many choices it can all seem a bit hard.

Until recently in Australia, it was hard to find out just how many kJ were contained in the menu items at fast food chains. The 8700 app brings that information together.

Everyone has an ideal daily kilojoule figure they should consume to maintain a healthy weight. Do you know what yours is? This simple to use app will help you find out. It also provides information on how to balance and burn the kJ you consume with physical activity.

THE 8700 APP HELPS YOU:
- find how many kilojoules you should consume each day to maintain a healthy weight range
- calculate how much energy you burn through everyday activities, exercise and sports
- search over 3,000 fast foods from larger Australian fast food and snack chains
- convert calories to kJ (and vice versa)

Voted Best Nutrition App - 2012 Australian Mobile Awards. Provided by the NSW Food Authority as a tool to help you make more informed fast food choices.

Whats new

Increased maximum weight and age profile options.
Added some new activities to the Burn kJ calculator.

I can't believe this! A diet app that encourages you to eat junk food. Terrible. This would've been great if it was for normal food. Can't believe it won an award!

Balance and Burn Needs to include higher weight options for the balance and burn calculator. Stopping at 130kg is not right. I currently weigh more than that and do 60 + mins brisk walking a day. Would be great to have a calculator that was right for me.

Needs options for if your goal is to gain weight Otherwise good app

Very handy guide Simple, accurate and easy to use; great to help choose better choices when you don't have time to cook.

Needs work I find it very disappointing that I can't ENTER a goal weight. I'm trying to gain mass not stay at current or lose weight.

Loz Hutch

Love it Love that i can work out kjs burnt for exercises! Thanks

Jennifer Gwizd

Only junkfood? The fact that you can only insert takeaway food is disappointing. I don't regularly eat takeaway but, would like to be able to make smart decisions if I do. This doesn't have any flex. You're either eating junk or you're not.

What about carbohydrates I know calories is the big thing in the US & it' s probably useful for young things reading all the glossy mags, but for the real people cabohydrates & fat are the real concern. What about an App for us.

Good but... Good, but would be so much better if it followed Google Android design guidelines! Please developers, just follow Google design principles, Google created them for a reason! I don't have Android to have apps looking like I'm using an Apple device...

Good This app is so informative and I like how you can look at some many different things and even create a meal. However it very rarely works properly. The tabs on the bottom of the screen don't work unless I close and reopen the app. It also freezes quite often. Please fix as I really like the idea behind it

Great app Love it .. it makes weight loss simple n easy to follow highly recommended

Laggy Nice app presentation and good data however the general interface lags between screens and it is clearly a port of the iPhone version. Look forward to a proper android optimised version.

Love it The food database is only 'fast food', but thats all it claims so fine by me. So easy to compare fast foods. Brilliant.

Very useful features This is quite a useful app and I am glad to have found a kJ to cal converter, as it is useful for the gym with their American equipment being in cal and our foods being measured in kJ. I like the meal construction option, but it is a shame that it works only for fast food. I would track my meals using it, if the functionality was available, even if you can put in the quantities per 100g and then just make it relative to the serving size. It was good to know my daily kJ recommendation, it was actually higher than I thought!

Sorting results by kjs The app is great, just one suggestion: it would be really helpful if I could have the food search results sorted by kjs (rather than alphabetically), so I could find the food with the lowest kj count quickly & simply. Thanks.

Counter Would be great if there was a counter in the app

So good Healthy eating is great

A Google User

good good A good concept, but the app does need work. Most food types, especially home made ones are hard to find or aren't quite right. A few technical issues on android too. Good app if a bit or variety is added.

Barbra Ostle

Needs refining. . Its a government app. There is enough money to develop this further. It needs an option for a person to put what they eat during the day to find out really if they are eating too much or not enough. But everyone doesn't eat at takeaways...

Kate Gibson

Weight Can you please increase the figures so that heavier people can enter their weight? Why does it stop at 129kg? :(

Alina Brykova

good make on Russian , please

Brittany Alice

I think its good. useful for cal to kj conversion and searching cal content of fast food on the occasions you do have it.

Catherine Rabanes

Great initiative, but.... Seems to be more useful for those who eat fast food quite a lot, and who need to make better choices say between, a Big Mac and a Bondi Burger. Granted, this app is not a calorie counter like MFP, but the food database is almost useless for me. And whilst it's not always about counting calories, as much work goes into using this app (if not more) as a counter which you get much more out of. I guess it's just not for everyone, but I hope it helps those who do use it.

8700 Ease of use

Russell Edwards

Junk food only Useless. I thought great, a calorie counter from a reliable Australian source. It doesn't calorie count and the database is confined to junk food! Pointless!

Peter Manderson

Utterly useless if you eat anything that's not already in the list; there's no way to add custom entries.
